We live across from the gorgeous new $1M Walt Hundley Soccer Field. I have a (nearly) 3yo who enjoys “soccer” but at this age I am really not ready to commit to A) paying high fees B) firm practice and game commitments…and mostly C)stress
So, I was wondering if there might be a group of West Seattle parents out there who might want to start a Saturday morning pickup “game” for Toddlers aged 2-4?
I’m thinking :45-:60 (or however long they last)…maybe have some warm up group activities, ball coordination, running drills, following directions, red-light/green-light, kicking into goal..basic stuff….and a REALLY LOOSE interpretation of “games”. And then maybe a snack!
The internet has all this broken down, and I’d be happy to “coach” – unless someone who actually knew anything about soccer was interested! The only thing every kid would need is a soccer ball. No commitment, just show up if you want. I could even set up Facebook page for info & communication. Thoughts??
This beautiful field is empty most early mornings. And if we don’t get out, cartoons take hold. The field is already set up for smaller toddler-size mini-fields. And if a large game was going on, we can always move to one of the other two fields, or let them play in the tennis court or the jungle gym! :)

Sweet cat is looking for a home. Present home is not possible as she wondered in one day, quite dirty and very very thin. Several weeks later she’s clean, she’s put on weight and she’s happy but the household is allergic to her. They’ve named her Sylvia as she reminded them of Sylvester the cat. Her disposition is one of happiness and contentment. She is absolutely not afraid of people so we conjecture that she has been treated very well until left on her own.
She is a long hair cat but she’s tiny, weighing maybe 6 pounds when wet.

Just FYI – if you are missing a bike or a lawn mower you might want to check the backyard of the house at the corner of Morgan & 36th.
There are 5 bicycles and 5 lawn mowers in the back yard of the house – which since they never mow or bike to work we all know do not belong to the crack users who “live” at this house.
The police can’t prove they are stolen – but if you have serial numbers that would match call them and let them know you are ready to claim your property.
When: 1/2 and hour ago (1:30 pm Sat Sept 8th)
What: This dog roaming off leash attacked Punky (my Shitzu) while I was walking Lex & Punky (both on leash). I saw the dog sitting under a tree, and I recognize it as a neighborhood dog – even made small talk with the man who owns the dog in the past. So I made sure I had Lex and Punky “heeled” as we walked past this dog when “bad dog” rushed out from under the tree and started attacking Punky.
My 8 year old daughter was walking with us and I had yell to her to get behind me and then yelled at “bad dog” and started kicking at it (didn’t actually make contact – but I would have liked to). Fortunately this made “bad dog” stop and Punky wasn’t seriously injured.
But Bad dog started following us as we crossed the street to get away from her and finally I yelled “GO Home!!” enough times that I believe “bad dog” did just that and took off east on Hinds.
This dog is running loose a lot – Mr. Older Gentlemen owner, you seem nice enough and “bad dog” seemed okay in the past, but she’s proven otherwise and you need to reign her in before she hurts another dog.
Adoptions are going well–last weekend 26 cats and kittens were found forever homes!
Let’s keep this phenomenal trend going! Kitty Harbor will be open 12 – 6 pm, both Saturday and Sunday for your meet ‘n’ greet pleasures. Approx. 9 young adults and 25 kittens are just waiting to charm you.

These cats and kittens come from rescue situations. Approximately:
• 1/3 come from King, Pierce and Snohomish Shelters (off of death row)
• 1/3 come from Kitty Harbor’s own rescue work in our local area
• 1/3 come from Eastern Washington where the Kill Rate is 70% – 90%, depending on the area/County.

Community Center Youth Internship Opportunity, including at Southwest
RecTech is offering youth aged between 14 and 18 the opportunity to learn a new skills and earn a stipend ($399) as Interns.
The 2012 Fall Internships begin lat September at Southwest, South Park, Yesler and Delridge Community Center RecTech Computer Labs, they look at Digital Animation using Adobe Flash, Web Design and Audio & Visual Media.
At Southwest:
“Adobe Flash is all over the web. Even if you don’t know what it is, chances are you’ve seen and used it! From pausing videos to playing a game, almost everything interactive is made with Flash. Whether you want to create your own online game or a presentation that makes PowerPoint seem dull, Flash will help you create a fully interactive experience. RecTech winter interns will learn to create digital animation, add interactive buttons, and use advanced programming options for other interactive features, all using Adobe Flash. We will then create an application that informs and educates, either about technology skills or for a nonprofit organization serving the Southwest Seattle community.”

It was so uncanny how accurately DBP anticipated the next move from Duckitude…since Duckitude had ordered up a bunch of Daffy characters for just this type of situation and had just completed the first Daffy Demonstrator the day DBP posted. Daffy is out and about at this very moment…
