I have two people in mind. One is my friend Roseanne at ETC on California Ave 937-1409. My sister who cut hair for a long time was very picky in whom she would let do her hair would let Roseanne do hers. The other is my sister-in-law Janet who works at Coupe Rokei on First Ave in Downtown. I have curly hair and she cuts and colors my hair and has been doing it for years. I have no idea what she charges as we are family and I get the benefit of her expertise for low cost. The salon is http://www.couperokei.com phone is 443-4646. The gentleman who co-owns it is a West Seattle man.

This month’s Seattle metropolitan has a chart of neighborhood statistics including political contributions.

    Admiral/Genesee/Junction D/R % 58/42

    Alki 56/44

    Arbor Heights 58/42

    North Delridge 73/27

    Fauntleroy/Seaview 62/38

    Highpoint 76/24

    Westwood/Roxhill 75/25

So, there are definitely lots of silent republicans out there. Thankfully, not in my neighborhood:)

    Topic: Buy WAMU

    in forum Open Discussion

As a West Seattle resident, business women and community activist of many years, I want to encourage my neighbors and business associates to consider buying WAMU stock as an investment in our community’s financial security.

As I went into the bank the other day, I recalled the days when Boeing was at it low of $17 a share and went onto trade and then split at $105. That made me think about the potential for WAMU.

It is a bank that has been the rock of our community with respect to savings and loan. And, at $11.25 a share, with a high of $44/share in the past year , it has potential.. A ROI of 4:1 in several years is heartwarming.

The shareholders took WAMU Corporate to task this week and it seemed to be heard by the CEO. At least we were local to be able to express our outrage.

So I would rather have a vocal majority of shareholder in the greater Seattle area controlling WAMU, than an east coast or southwest corporation taking control.

It does make a difference in our quality of life when we are in control of our local finances.

    What do you think?

Instead of the soothing and rallying bromides that fill most keynotes, Robbins’ speech alternated between dire warning and stern plea.

Addressing the kickoff of the National Assn. of Broadcasters confab in Las Vegas, Robbins at first hesitated over whether to deliver the speech he had prepared, thinking he might serve the audience better by submitting to a Q&A session with a moderator.

But after some back and forth with the audience, which encouraged him to go with the speech, Robbins obliged. He launched into an apology to conservative talkers Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly “and Laura whatshername,” noting that all had labeled him traitorous or unpatriotic for having called for more time to be given to U.N. weapons inspectors before deploying military force against Iraq.

“They said I was a dupe of left-wing appeasement … and how right they were,” Robbins quipped. “Had I known then of all the smiling faces” that now populate Iraq, “the wildfire of democracy that is spreading throughout the Middle East,” he would have not spoken as he did, he said.

He added that he can see now that his words were indeed “traitorous, unfounded and irresponsible, so I apologize to the talkradio geniuses.”

The True Value hardware store used to be Hometown Hardware and was on the NE corner of California & 44th, where a bank is now (Wells Fargo?).

Across the street, where the parking lot/farmers market are, was the fire station.

At 49th & Dawson there was a tiny grocery store, Aske’s, where we used to buy penny candy. Occasionally we’d pony up 5 or 10 cents for a candy bar, but usually we’d go for quantity over quality.

I also remember stopping at the cornfield (now the new Ercolini Park) to buy corn right off the stalk from the very grumpy old farmer.

Look online and pickup at the store. There is on-street parking and a pay lot next door. I think they validate parking or did the last time I was in there.

Obama leads Clinton 50% – 42% in latest Gallup 3-day tracking poll. Obama’s 48-44 lead in the last 3-day poll got that high yesterday because he won the daily poll 55-36.

It may be over after Pennsylvania.

Food for thought. Does it bother anyone out there that Clintons chief strategist is also the CEO of a public affaris firm that was headed up John McCain’s top advisor?
