JanSParticipant(psssttt..BDG…I think she was referring to The House, and his name calling, i.e., using “senility” and “dementia”, etc, etc…while he thinks it’s “cute” it really isn’t, and he needs to be called on it)
I think she still like you :) I know I do…
May 6, 2008 at 4:57 am #620421
JoBParticipantbeachdrivegirl…
i haven’t called you a single name…
i did say that the way you were talking about poor people in your zeal to defend Obama’s position on the gas tax bill sounded like theHouse. it did.
I also said that i didn’t believe you meant to sound like that… in the same post.
i did point out where the stance you had taken was elitist… i did not say you were elitist…
i did say you were being petty when you decided to lob personal insults at me and would not stop. but again.. i was talking about words and not about you personally…
I attacked your arguments.. not you. and that was the point i tried to make in that post.
There is absolutely no reason for any of this to become personal between us. .. and yet it is clear that it has for you.
I hope you can find a way around that as i have always enjoyed talking with you.
On the other hand.. i did once call theHouse a troll.. and i tease him about being one often… since by his own admission he often takes the extreme end in a discussion just to make things livelier…
I was offended by his dementia and senility remarks..
call me a fairy goodmother if you will.. i call myself that.. or a bleeding heart liberal.. i am…
but questioning anyone’s cognitive ability is hitting below the belt…
and since i had just suffered from yet another virally induced bout of transitional dementia.. and disclosed that fact on this site…i was particularly offended.
he wishes i was senile.

TheHouseMemberJob, if you were truly offended by my comments I must offer you this…..
Grow some thicker skin.
I’m going back to concentrating on West Seattle instead of you.

JoBParticipantMay 6, 2008 at 7:25 pm #620424
AnonymousInactiveI’ve been gone awhile, but just went through this thread. We’ve all met House and we know he is a good guy. I think it is entirely possible that House did not see the thread where JoB discussed her health issues (it was, I think, in an Obama/Clinton thread, after all).
Can’t we cut him a little slack? He likes to get JoB riled up. He did go on, in that same post, to profess his love for ALL WSF members (JoB included).
May 6, 2008 at 8:02 pm #620425
JoBParticipantNew Resident..
i could have cut him some slack for the first insult… and i did. i didn’t blister him.
do you think i didn’t cut him enough slack for the second?
i seem to remember when you reacted pretty hotly to the implication you though someone made that you were merely stupid…
House didn’t imply. He was pretty direct. i am demented, senile and thin skinned.
I like drinking with the House.. i even like talking with him sometimes…
but it really isn’t polite to call people names…
i think even Republican mom’s teach manners. I know mine did:)
May 6, 2008 at 8:37 pm #620426
KayleighMemberHouse has been consistently insulting to lots of people here, me included. Yet other people (me included) get called out for not being respectful, and apologize.
Is the bar just set lower for House because he’s a Republican? Or a guy? ;-)
May 6, 2008 at 8:40 pm #620427
JanSParticipantKayleigh….good one :)
May 6, 2008 at 8:51 pm #620428
AnonymousInactiveI wouldn’t say the bar is set lower for House. Not in my eyes at least. I just know his sense of humor because I have talked with him, on more than one occasion, face to face.
Sometimes things we want to come across as sarcastic and lightly teasing, don’t. Even when you’re text messaging it’s hard to relay emphasis and tone. We all know that.
I just wanted to point out that it’s possible House wasn’t being completely insensitive to JoB by singling out weakness she may actually have. He, possibly, doesn’t even know.
But name calling should never occur. I think we are relatively lucky that almost everyone on this forum acts like an adult (for the most part). Generally, I think everyone is respectful and kind the majority of the time.
May 6, 2008 at 9:10 pm #620429
JoBParticipantNew Resident…
i too have talked to theHouse.. and i like him.
but i would never call him stupid or uneducated or bigotted or racist or … nor have i ever called him an a..hole.. though that seems to be a fairly common term of endearment on this forum:)
So whether his insults were compounded by calling someone with functional brain injury demented and senile or not… they were still personal insults… and as such.. not nice.
and had he done it with a sense of humor.. i might have been more inclined to let it go…
ok.. i reread it and I can see where he may have thought it was tongue in cheek humor… but senility and dementia aren’t humorous to me for really obvious reasons…
and yes John, i was offended.
You would have been too had you been me.
May 6, 2008 at 9:20 pm #620430
KayleighMemberNewRes, that point of view would have more cred with me if he had apologized. When you have offended someone, it says a lot if your response is “grow a thicker skin” rather than “sorry, I really was only kidding.”
I wish I didn’t think Republicans had a different standard. But I think I do think it. I think. ;-)
May 6, 2008 at 9:30 pm #620431
JoBParticipantKayleigh…
i think people fall into both camps on both sides of the political boundary…
though i will say that on this forum … polite and kind republicans are definately underrepresented:)
thank goodness for NewResident who shows a kinder gentler Republican face here.
May 6, 2008 at 10:31 pm #620432
AnonymousInactiveSorry everyone. I guess I was just trying to see things from both angles.
charla and Jan, I did not know that happened.
JoB, I think if House realizes the full situation with his name calling of you personally, he will feel badly about having done that.
Kayleigh, I believe House will apologize (in his way), but he obviously doesn’t read the blog all day long.
Let’s face it, though. He is the only other Republican on this forum (at least the only other one that posts). Even though it is tough to be the minority, name calling is not the answer. I know House to be intelligent enough to not have to resort to that. Maybe speaking out like this will change his ways.
May 6, 2008 at 11:00 pm #620433
JanSParticipantNew Res..I know you mean well, and want to smooth things over, look at both sides. But…this particular man needs to speak for himself. When I suggested that maybe he simply post intelligently without “zings” etc….for him to give it a try for just a bit, his response was “No way in hell”…I didn’t read that as joking. I just don’t think he has it in him…I would like to think that people would prove me wrong, him included…doesn’t look like he really wants to.
Apologizing “in his way” ? what does that mean? How about just apologizing…and meaning it…
May 6, 2008 at 11:41 pm #620434
AnonymousInactiveNewRes, you should know by now you’re not allowed to have an opinion:)
Hurt feelings aside, House is nothing but consistent. He doesn’t really bother me and I have no problems calling him an a..hole if he’s being one, as I’m sure he doesn’t in reverse. I take comfort in the fact that all of us bleeding heart liberals make him crazy. What are a few words in comparison to that:)
May 7, 2008 at 1:01 am #620435
KayleighMemberLOL! Charla, you keep it real.
May 7, 2008 at 1:38 am #620436
AnonymousInactiveJan – By “apologizing in his own way”, I mean to say that I could totally see him doing it in person and looking JoB in the eye.
And, JT, you’re right. I think that is kinda House’s thing. He tries to get all the bleeding hearts riled up (although his proposal in the gas thread was pretty liberal). But, I do recall talk of having him sit in a dunk tank. Who knows…. maybe he’s helping the cause here!
charla, I’m confused by your post. You’re implying that my experience with House in person differs with yours because of the way we look? Maybe it’s just because we are both Republican (and the only 2 on here at that).
JanS, you’re absolutely right! House can 100% speak for himself. So I will bow out. Just trying to smooth things over.
May 7, 2008 at 2:53 am #620437
JoBParticipanttheHouse isn’t the only republican.. unless i miss my guess we have more than a few here who just don’t post a lot…
maybe they don’t have much to say right now… but i think they soon will.
May 7, 2008 at 2:58 am #620438
charlabobParticipantNope, NR — I definitely included and mentioned your Republicanism in my evaluation. You continue to be the exception to almost all of my rules. :-)
Actually, one of the very few things I respect about House is that he doesn’t have some false notion of the need to respect old(er) people. He has contempt for everything I believe in — and he isn’t so hypocritical as to pretend to make allowances, simply because I’m not young and not agile. He’s allowed to loathe old crips (though I’m far to the left of liberal). I’m allowed to loathe young(er) smart-ass knee-jerk right-wing punks. It works so well for all of us.
I was just making a pitch for other targets to stop apologizing, because I don’t find it very psychologically healthy.
May 7, 2008 at 3:30 am #620439
AnonymousInactiveThis month’s Seattle metropolitan has a chart of neighborhood statistics including political contributions.
Admiral/Genesee/Junction D/R % 58/42
Alki 56/44
Arbor Heights 58/42
North Delridge 73/27
Fauntleroy/Seaview 62/38
Highpoint 76/24
Westwood/Roxhill 75/25
So, there are definitely lots of silent republicans out there. Thankfully, not in my neighborhood:)
May 7, 2008 at 3:53 am #620440
TheHouseMemberI’m blushing over the fact that you’re all arguing about me.
>
Please let me clarify….I didn’t know that JoB sincerely had a medical condition. For that I apologize, but I do not take the comment back b/c it was meant to be comedic/sarcastic.
The two times I met Jan and JoB, I have spoke my mind but been extremely polite (although Jan, I could tell you despise me).
The Charla twins (I never know which one is really speaking), seem like pretty miserable people now that they have called me a jerk and an asshole. This is typical behavior of people that are frustrated with their own plight. It’s a way to divert their own frustrations onto other people. Charla, all of my comments are tongue in cheek, hence my little statements that I put at the end of many of my posts (Peace on you). The one time i spoke with you, I was very civil and presented arguments that you didn’t agree with but were perfectly valid. I could care less…you’re definitely not the first person to call me that and won’t be the last.
The truly sad part here is that some guy on WS Blog got inside your head bad enough for you to rage even though 99% of it had nothing to do with you. If I were you, I’d take a sabbatical from blogging and find another hobby.
As for your Death Tax idea, I will start another thread to debate.
Smoke salmon, not weed.
May 7, 2008 at 4:23 am #620441
JanSParticipantHouse…if I can’t smoke it, can I at least have brownies? Lol…JT, I’ll share…
despise…a strong word….I despise sardines, pickled pig’s feet, gefilte fish, John Ashcroft…
you’re not in that league :P
May 7, 2008 at 4:35 am #620442
AnonymousInactiveJanS, I was thinking you might need some after surgery treats:)
May 7, 2008 at 4:50 am #620443
JanSParticipantJT…if it kills the pain, I’m all for it :)
May 7, 2008 at 6:18 am #620444
beachdrivegirlParticipantHouse….House…it is so sad because I think a few on this blog may have scared you away…i still enjoy yourcasts..but then again it is probably because I am an Indpendent….
FYI when d I get babysit?
