angelswudfall4uParticipantHey Guys,
I hardly ever take the time to really complain in writing about something unless it is terrible and I feel it would benefit the community to know about it. I posted the following on YELP and wanted to make sure it was posted here as well.
The owner is RUDE and should NEVER talk to customers the way I was talked to the other night. I walked in and before I could even order, she started making fun of me…saying I go there every week and should try the teryaki place next door! I thought she was kidding. For one, I don’t go there every week and, to be honest, if there were another Thai place nearby my neighborhood I’d go there instead of Vatsana because the food is over-priced and mediocre. Instead, I’ve put up with the price-gauging and mediocre food because of its closeness to shopping and my house. Well, after she insulted me and said “there is no more peanut sauce, go next door, go next door”…she said she was kidding and took my payment. As I was waiting for my food, she started in on me again. The customers sitting at the tables nearby were looking over awkwardly and shaking their heads and I was embarassed as well as humiliated that someone, especially someone I am paying for a service, would talk to me like that! She again told me to go next door next time and, getting tired of the harassment, I told her I would! She said it was too late because I had already paid and then laughed at me. Does this sound too mean and unbelievable to be true? I thought the same thing as it was happening. I have NEVER been treated that badly in my life by a restaurant. I will never step foot in that place again. If you are reading this and wondering if you should try this place out, DON’T. No one should have to experience what I did.

CallMeAlMemberis that the place in Westwood Village near the Sub shop? If so, I have a brief comment as well.
April 24, 2009 at 5:41 pm #665042
KBearParticipantWow. That is bizarre.
April 24, 2009 at 5:41 pm #665043
livingonthebeachMemberI have not been there, so can’t attest to any personal service, but do you think it might be a cultural thing? Maybe she “thinks” she is being funny.
BTW, the Teriyaki place next door is pretty good (and cheap).
April 24, 2009 at 5:45 pm #665044
CallMeAlMemberIt is. I Googled it. While it is convenient to home, I am not impressed. I always order to go because the owner is unfriendly to my family -to say the very least. I seldom hear “thank you” or even a grimace of a smile.
The point becomes even more clear when you look into their kitchen, there is a handwritten note on a piece of paper posted in plain sight which says (I am not kidding) “No Return on Food”. As if to say, if you are not satisfied with our product, too bad. WTF? In most decent establishments, if you are dissatisfied with something you’ve ordered, you express your concern and the establishment makes every attempt to rectify the situation.
Not so. I would rather eat Ramen noodles than ever go back in there. What they’ve got going for them is location. They’re right there next to that big, corporate coffee giant; close to 24Hour Fitness and QFC. They snag people “on the go” who don’t have more time. There are many other good places for great food…look in nearby White Center as well.

angelswudfall4uParticipantI thought it was a cultural thing, too, at first, but then when she continued on and on and on, that thought went right out the window. She knew she was crossing a line and said what she said with a smirk. It’s messed up. Just trust me, don’t go there and tell your friends not to go there. My only mistake was thinking it was close to home and going once every couple of weeks – she obviously doesn’t like repeat, paying customers. Why would you insult people that are likely to return? THAT MAKES NO SENSE. It’s not like I did anything wrong or offensive…I just walked in the door!
April 24, 2009 at 6:03 pm #665046
trensuelaMemberMaybe we all need to just look at this a little differently. See the insults as entertainment. There is a famous Chicago hot dog stand called the Wiener Circle where the women who work there are called “The Bitches”. It is always fun to go there as you can yell at them as they yell at you. I even got thrown out once. So maybe next time at Vatsana throw some insults back. At the very least it will provide some tension relief as their food is, as others have stated, mediocre.
April 24, 2009 at 6:08 pm #665047
angelswudfall4uParticipantI never see insults as entertainment, especially when I am PAYING someone to insult me, basically. No thank you.
April 24, 2009 at 6:17 pm #665048
trensuelaMemberAngels,
Yes, paying to be insulted is a bit weird. There are many strange and uncomforatable things which people pay for. I for one am happy that it is possible in this great country to pay to be insulted and receive mediocre food.
April 24, 2009 at 6:41 pm #665049
CallMeAlMemberAs you can see from my photo, I’ve had me quite a bit of some MAD THAI!! I like your approach trensuela! Rather than be the offended, turn it around and BE the offender!! It would be great to have the owner be snide with me again -or better yet, put a big, fat, ZERO on the tip line -and point it out while signing the charge slip in a jovial manner.
It’s not that I enjoy confrontation, but I do expect a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Wrote a little song about it, wanna hear it?
April 24, 2009 at 6:47 pm #665050
BubbaMember“Why would you insult people that are likely to return?’
OK There’s a really obvious answer to this question, just as there’s probably another side to the story.
April 24, 2009 at 7:02 pm #665051
SueParticipantAre you sure that it was the owner, or assuming it is? The forum rules say that you’re supposed to speak with the owner/manager before posting a rant, and also posting what action was taken by them in response. Even if the person was the owner/manager who did this, did you tell them you were offended?
I used to go to Vatasana about once a month when I lived over there – it’s been about a year since I’ve been there, so I don’t know if management has changed. But I always had good food and good experiences there, greeted with smiles and treated with respect.

JiggersMemberHi prices, crappy service, small portions, mediocre food. That’s why I rarely eat out anywhere here anymore. Its just not these guys, there are lots of restaurants that take you for granted. I prefer to cook at home anyways. It’s rare to go out and get great service, good food at a resonable price and make you feel welcomed at the same time.
April 24, 2009 at 7:25 pm #665053
B-squaredParticipanti don’t know about becoming the offender……
as a rule, i never offend someone who is either serving or preparing my food. not a good idea.
April 24, 2009 at 8:24 pm #665054
angelswudfall4uParticipantYes, positive it was the owner. Go to YELP – others have complained. It’s not just me. Another side to the story? Sure..I’d love to hear it! The only thing I ever did was order takeout, pay and leave…not much room for another side to the story that would explain how poorly I was treated there. The guests near the counter where I was paying were staring with their mouths open. I wasn’t the only one that noticed how rude the owner was to me. My partner walked in towards the end of what was happening and said, “what’s going on here” and I told her I wanted to leave and asked if she would grab my food when it was ready. I sat in the car because I didn’t want to go back inside and be harassed.
Like I said originally, I do not post or comment unless I have a SEVERE complaint. I am not one to complain and usually try to see the other side and not take offense, but there was no getting around this one.
April 24, 2009 at 8:27 pm #665055
angelswudfall4uParticipantJiggers, try Jamjuree. I am always treated nicely there, the food is out of this world amazing and the price is VERY good for the quantity. If it was in West Seattle, this would’ve never happened to me because I wouldn’t have gone anywhere else :)
April 24, 2009 at 8:38 pm #665056
celeste17ParticipantWhere is jamjuree?

villagegreenMemberJamjuree kicks ass. One of the things I miss most about Capitol Hill. Buddha Ruksa is definitely a good replacement, though.
April 24, 2009 at 11:15 pm #665059
nuniMemberNo, try Buddah Ruksah. THE BEST THAI IN WEST SEATTLE. Hands down.
April 24, 2009 at 11:24 pm #665060
datamuseParticipantYou know, I’ve tried Buddha Ruksa and I’ve just never been all that impressed. Mostly I go to Kaosamai in Fremont, or sometimes Taewon (also in Fremont).
What’s the name of that place in White Center, across from Papa Murphy’s? I’ve never managed to get there when they’re open but I keep hearing good things about it.
I’ve been to Vatsana a couple of times and thought it was okay but have had better.
April 24, 2009 at 11:33 pm #665061
trensuelaMemberMae Phim is still my favorite Thai restaurant anywhere.
April 25, 2009 at 12:04 am #665062
andreaParticipantLove Mae Phim! Right down the street from my office and you can smell it when the wind is just right…yummm…the freshest and tastiest Thai this side of Thailand. I do like Buddha Ruska as well though for staying in WS…their vegetable grill with tofu has got to be one of the most beautifully displayed dishes around and its so tasty!
April 25, 2009 at 1:06 am #665063
pigeonmomParticipantLee’s Asian has some excellent Thai dishes.
April 25, 2009 at 2:20 am #665064
HunterGParticipantNuni, I totally agree with you, I love Buddah Ruska. Nui (probably spelled wrong), one of the owners is super cute and extremely kind.
If it was me in this situation, if I went there again, I would call this person on their comment. “Why do you say go next door to me, don’t you see I am taking pity on you and your crappy food?” and then walk out.
Tit for tat. Maybe I am no better than the person who started, but hey, I’m gonna walk out with a smile on my face.
