Yup, those two families are America’s houses of Windsor and Tudor.

I can easily see Jeb hanging out and watching the Cruz’s and Perry’s, Mitt’s implode again and getting recruited late in the game so he doesn’t have to even be tightly vetted or parrot the stupidity that the Tea Party forces these guys to belch during the debates.

My Imaginary Interview with the Problem … Solvicator

I was visitin’ my dear friend, George W. Bush (we weren’t in the military together,) the other day while he was sittin’ on a nice piece of paddy o’furniture in the sun room of his heavily fortified compound paintin’ whirled peas (Texans, even ones raised and schooled on the snobbish East Coast, never do anythin’ endin’ with a ‘g’).

’43,’ I says, ‘I want to thank you for solving the immigration problem so effectively during your 8 years in the White House.’ He looked around the room then realized I was talkin’ to him as he was the only other person in the room. Beamin’ with pride, he replied, ‘I jes didn think it was right for those Canadian geese to be wingin’ through our protected airspace on their way to and from their vacation homes in South America.’

‘I mean, Canada is our friend and all, but they can’t even control their own birds. Who knows, those geese may have been turned into Commies by those there Columbians. They could be flyin’ down with our military secrets and mulin’ Koch on their way home.’

‘They’re too small for NORAD to track; heck, they can track Sandy Claws and his flyin’ raindear! They don’t use cell phones or e-mail, so the NSA was useless. They are way high up when they cross the border, so ICE couldn’t help. They don’t bother checkin’ they’re luggage, so TSA wasn’t interested without a $5 billyun appropriation.’

‘So I thunk and thunk while on my frequent vacations, I mean work trips, to my cattle ranch in Crawdad so as I could be cuttin’ and clearin’ shruuubs. Cattle ranch? That’s a good ‘un … lotsa bull, no cattle. Anyways, one day a buncha donors, I mean friends, dropped by to show off the assault rifles they was carryin’. Dagnabit, you shoulda seen them Secret Service boys ajumpin’ and ahollering’; wonner why the didn’t react that way when those same friends and their scary-lookin’ weapons protested outside Obama rallies?’

Then a light bulb went off over my head; I was admirin’ mice elf in the mirror so I actually saw it! First time EVER! I was gonna take a selfie but I realized I have no idea what that is. Fortunately, it was a real regular Merkin light bulb, not one of those pinko floor scents or LEDs, so I got a real Merkin idea — let regular citizens be shootin’ ’em down. They could use pretty much any weapon they could get their hands on although an automatic rifle would be perfect. The gubmint could even supply the weapons and ammo; heck, they gave me an armed fighter jet when I was still drinkin’ (thank you, daddy!)

Jes think … Honk, Honk, eh … RAT-A-TAT-TAT … just feathers floatin’ to earth. Them Canadians would be mad fer a while until they realized the benefits: military secrets would be safe, fewer drugs flowin’ into the country, no more goose poop all over our parks and cars and no more airliners crash landin’ in rivers. What could go wrong??

He was so pleased with himself that I simply said, ‘Heckuva a job, Bushie. Heckuva a job.’

Hey folks, if you don’t see any updates on this issue it’s probably because Google has started to pull back its support of Net Neutrality.

Sounds like they’ve cut a backroom deal with the big ISP’s and are walking back their previous levels of support.

The big get bigger and the we all fill their coffers, with little to no choice. But not if we don’t let it happen. Here’s a few minutes to get you fired up to call/mail someone and see if we can’t make our voices heard.

And I’m asking all you “free market” conservatives especially. You want entrepreneurs to flourish? You want the better mousetrap to have a chance in the marketplace? Put your mouth where your mouth is and speak up now. Or forever pay your ransom.

Here’s a funny way to edumacate yourself on the topic.

JTB: “Constructionist? Nope.” Undoubtedly. Pretzel? Yup.

And as was noted, these guys played the long con well because they had discipline and the comfort of knowing they could spend their copious leisure time making deals and grinding the plan out on the golf courses and their yachts while the rest of us bustled to keep food on the table.

They took Margaret Mead’s quote literally and worked it for a generation and now they’re gonna’ protect it for as long as they can with their money and power. This will not end well.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that has.”

Time for us to follow suit and turn the tables…

Hi there – I think you called and spoke to co-publisher Patrick earlier – I’m sorry he mentioned “Hi-Yu Parade” because if you search for that, you won’t find anything, since that is not the parade’s name. It’s the West Seattle Grand Parade. If you e-mail me and tell me what the photo looked like, I will go looking for you, probably easiest as everything on the site ultimately goes through me as editor. Here is the 2010 story – was this it perhaps?

when a Muslim Islamic does this, this country, and it’s right wing faction will be in a tizzy…

And, to Jan’s excellent point, this very well written article, also from The Daily Kos:

Ooooo, it looks like your answer is right here, Jan, in following seaopgal’s link (PDF):

    http://tinyurl.com/kqx8lep

Interesting info on the page that seaopgal directly linked to, is that DPD is responsible for assigning street addresses to buildings.

That may seem totally obvious, but I seem to recall hearing many years ago, that USPS was responsible for assigning addresses.

That was pre-internet, so it’s not a scenario of “Don’t believe everything you read on the ‘net”, just one of “Don’t believe everything you read/hear”. ;-)

Squirrels sound good compared to their cousins with thinner tails who love my neighbors fruit tree and are trying to find housing via my basement vents. Yuk. Beware the falling fruit.

Chookie, in response your question “Is this forum often this heated and adversarial?” in post 15: Yup!

Word to the wise, don’t ever bring up a topic involving an off leash dog or throwing a bag of dog poop in someone else’s garbage can. You will get crucified…

It’s really just the same 3-5 people that yell the loudest, and not surprisingly you annoyed at least 2 of them! As soon as I saw this it was easy to tell what the responses were going to look like. Trust me, this forum is not reflective of any neighbors I have met here in West Seattle. Everyone I have met has been kind, friendly and open minded.

It really isn’t very complicated, it just takes some elbow grease. My floors were in VERY rough shape – old fir that had been under linoleum or carpet for decades. It looked like a barn floor. So I had to start with 40 grit and work up to 120 to get a smooth surface, which is probably way more work than you will need to do.

If your floor is in better shape than mine was, you could probably just go straight to the 120 grit to get the old stain/polyurethane off. That shouldn’t be too difficult at all. I applied the Osmo on my hands and knees using soft rags, but you can use a mop-style applicator as well. Green Depot sells all the supplies needed.

I’m not saying this is an easy job – it’s tedious, the sander is heavy, and it is a bit time consuming. But it can be done by anyone in reasonable physical condition who has a DIY attitude.

Below are a couple of links that I hope are helpful. The first is a link to the product on Green Depot’s website (the physical store is located in SODO). The second is a link to the OSMO headquarters, which is also located here in Seattle. A couple of months ago I contacted them by email with a cleaning/waxing question and the customer service response was impressively prompt and thorough. They can answer any questions you have. Good luck!

I used to eat there regularly until I had a bad experience involving racial discrimination on the part of the host. I did speak to the manager, but the issue was denied, not resolved – so I haven’t been back since. Can’t say I’ve missed it much, ‘tho the hush puppies were yummy.

Not sure if you’re asking for tips on doing it yourself, or wanting names of contractors, but…

I’m a 63 year old woman and I did mine myself. They’re gorgeous! I highly recommend Osmo Polyx-oil for finishing floors. It’s a non-toxic, repairable (unlike polyurethane) finish available from Green Depot. The sander was rented from Home Depot. The newer ones with large discs work better – and with less damage – than the old drum sanders.

Yup. That’s a tough way to go and it’s never fun to have family fighting during the process. I’m glad it got resolved and he was in a peaceful place with loved ones when he passed.

Anybody else remember that “open mic incident” when he got caught calling his listeners “little sh*ts” on the air? Ha! That still cracks me up.

Intelligence is a form of progression.

Humanity has hit a road block. Either we advance or we simply kill each other and the resources used to do it?

    -More guns to stop guns.

    -Restart wars.

    -Drill baby, DRILL!

-Welcome to Walgreens, can I fill all those prescriptions for you?

-It’s snowing, see global warming is a liberal lie!

-Bullet proof shields for our kids instead of text books.

    -Glucose, fructose, corn syrup….YUMMM!!!!

-Oh yeah, more guns to protect us from all those other guns.

-I get my news from a social media meme.

-I educate myself from social media meme’s.

Humanity is getting dumber and dumber. Mother Nature doesn’t have to get rid of us, we’re too stupid to survive anymore.

Yup. And the biggest thing that doesn’t get mentioned often enough is that we’ve been following the right’s economic policies for 30+ yrs, regardless of who’s in the Oval Office and THAT’S why we’re where we are.

Their sh*t plainly don’t work (unless you’re in the investor class and you don’t work anyway).

I just wish every reporter would remind them of that every time crap like that falls from his trembling lips.

I stopped in to Roxbury Lanes to quell my craving for their salt & pepper wings last night. Crispy and covered in garlic and diced jalapenos, oh man, they are so good! It always amazes me when such uncomplicated food can be so delicious.

So when I ordered from Anna, the nicest bartender ever, she told me that the tv show “Best In Chow” recently filmed a show there about their tasty wings. Congrats Roxbury! She said the show should air in August.

If you go to try them, they are best eaten there while hot and crispy. When I get them to go I put them in the oven for a bit to crisp them up again and they are still so yummy. If you are feeling adventurous the salt & pepper head on shrimp are really good too. I love the crunchy shrimp heads!

I admit the Roxy is pretty divey, but their Asian food is great and they are one of the very few late night food options in West Seattle. They serve food until 3am on weekends! Now I’ve got myself craving them again, I’m going to have to go back tonight for some more salt & pepper wings!

Yup. The fight continues on all fronts. Personally, if you’re a private, for-profit entity and you want to deviate from law to serve only those that meet some arbitrarily exclusive group, you can try to go that route. But you get not one penny of public money in your coffers. And you have no tax exempt status of any kind.

    Hi there!

My name is Zoey, and I was looking on West Seattle Blog and saw you’re looking for an occasional sitter. If you’re still looking, I’d be very interested. I’m 17 years old. I will be graduating high school at the end of this year, and am excitedly looking for a job in the childcare field this summer, or as soon as possible!

    Qualifications:

    – I’ve been babysitting for about three years now.

    – I have full American Heartsaver First Aid, CPR and AED certification.

    – I have taken the Children’s Hospital “Better Babysitters” course.

    – I’ve been in Girl Scouts since Kindergarten, so I’m pretty well trained in arts and crafts, and love to do them!

    – I have my food handlers permit, and I’ve taken lots of cooking classes at PCC, so I can be sure to make yummy and fun snacks and dinner for your kid.

    – Most of all, I love working with little kids!

Let me know if you have any further questions! I’d be happy to provide you with references from childcare positions I’ve had if you want them. Have a great day :)
