Obama going to the border for a “photo op” would do nothing but impede progress.

IIRC the Katrina reaction was *just* a bit different.

“Slightly” different reaction from the media…….

    * And no, I am not comparing the two *events*, just the spin on the President being on the ground.

    Cue the guitar playing photos…….

but there is a bit of a “todo” about him not going to the border for a “photo op” as dear Gov. Perry did. He stopped to eat at a BBQ joint, paid for some peoples meals, and they complained about him cutting in line? <shaking head>

I love how all of this comes together. While I’m not happy with everything he does (or doesn’t do), I do feel sometimes he’s damned if he does, and damned if he doesn’t…

I heard right wing say Bush was criticized over Katrina because he did not visit the site. They have it a bit wrong: Most people don’t give a damn whether Bush was there or no, it was the lack of response resulting in needles deaths that was the problem. He hired an idiot for a FEMA director, they contracted out to 3rd parties (because that’s MORE efficient than guvmnt)and nothing got done for days. People were without fresh water, bodies were left in the streets and Brownie was told he was doing a heckofajob. The fact that you don’t think Bush is an idiot after that astounds me.

Git outta my head, Jan! ;-)

(The only thing I’d change, is “sometimes” to “always”). :-)

    sorry, no credit. cash only.

Rachel did a nice piece Rick ‘Do these horn rim glasses make me look intelligent’ Perry taking Sean Hannity on a tour of ‘the river’ for a photo op, as featured on Faux Noise. Both posed proudly with what looks to me (not a weapons expert) like a 30 cal machine gun mounted on a gubmint boat. The issue is women and children entering the country illegally and immediately seeking out the Border Patrol and turning themselves in and they’re flaunting automatic weapons?

I can’t find the piece on her blog and don’t have the stomach to look on Hannity’s website.

Here’s an interesting reflection on photo ops.

“IIRC the Katrina reaction was *just* a bit different.”

Could be because the two situations are about as completely unrelated as two situations could be. The comparison of the two is a total non-sequitur…but par for the course in RW talking point fantasy land.

My Imaginary Interview with the Problem … Solvicator

I was visitin’ my dear friend, George W. Bush (we weren’t in the military together,) the other day while he was sittin’ on a nice piece of paddy o’furniture in the sun room of his heavily fortified compound paintin’ whirled peas (Texans, even ones raised and schooled on the snobbish East Coast, never do anythin’ endin’ with a ‘g’).

’43,’ I says, ‘I want to thank you for solving the immigration problem so effectively during your 8 years in the White House.’ He looked around the room then realized I was talkin’ to him as he was the only other person in the room. Beamin’ with pride, he replied, ‘I jes didn think it was right for those Canadian geese to be wingin’ through our protected airspace on their way to and from their vacation homes in South America.’

‘I mean, Canada is our friend and all, but they can’t even control their own birds. Who knows, those geese may have been turned into Commies by those there Columbians. They could be flyin’ down with our military secrets and mulin’ Koch on their way home.’

‘They’re too small for NORAD to track; heck, they can track Sandy Claws and his flyin’ raindear! They don’t use cell phones or e-mail, so the NSA was useless. They are way high up when they cross the border, so ICE couldn’t help. They don’t bother checkin’ they’re luggage, so TSA wasn’t interested without a $5 billyun appropriation.’

‘So I thunk and thunk while on my frequent vacations, I mean work trips, to my cattle ranch in Crawdad so as I could be cuttin’ and clearin’ shruuubs. Cattle ranch? That’s a good ‘un … lotsa bull, no cattle. Anyways, one day a buncha donors, I mean friends, dropped by to show off the assault rifles they was carryin’. Dagnabit, you shoulda seen them Secret Service boys ajumpin’ and ahollering’; wonner why the didn’t react that way when those same friends and their scary-lookin’ weapons protested outside Obama rallies?’

Then a light bulb went off over my head; I was admirin’ mice elf in the mirror so I actually saw it! First time EVER! I was gonna take a selfie but I realized I have no idea what that is. Fortunately, it was a real regular Merkin light bulb, not one of those pinko floor scents or LEDs, so I got a real Merkin idea — let regular citizens be shootin’ ’em down. They could use pretty much any weapon they could get their hands on although an automatic rifle would be perfect. The gubmint could even supply the weapons and ammo; heck, they gave me an armed fighter jet when I was still drinkin’ (thank you, daddy!)

Jes think … Honk, Honk, eh … RAT-A-TAT-TAT … just feathers floatin’ to earth. Them Canadians would be mad fer a while until they realized the benefits: military secrets would be safe, fewer drugs flowin’ into the country, no more goose poop all over our parks and cars and no more airliners crash landin’ in rivers. What could go wrong??

He was so pleased with himself that I simply said, ‘Heckuva a job, Bushie. Heckuva a job.’

Wow. Southerner bashin’ is all the rage. Get so sick of it. Can you do a Black Mississippian for us, Met? Maybe a Lakotan cadence? Or how about that “el”s as “ar”s thing the Chinese are known for? Come on, don’t be shy.

the only global tarrin’ I did was my reference to Texans dropping the final ‘g’ and I did it in the context of 43 having been born in New Haven, CT into a wealthy family and schooled at Yale and Harvard (I briefly toyed with having 43 pahkin’ his cah in Hahvahd yahd …) Daddy was born in MA and went to Yale while granddaddy Prescott was a wealthy East Coast banker. During 43’s two election campaigns, his supporters referred derogatorily to East Coast elites and how 43 was a reg’lar kinda guy (despite his EC roots and silver spoon.)

I also was pokin’ fun at him emphasizin’ his ‘Texas-ness’ to prove his reg’lar status when in fact he bought his ‘cattle ranch’ just before launchin’ his campaign and sold it immediately after his 8 years were up.

As far as all the alleged ‘Southern bashin”, I got two words: Jeff Foxworthy. ‘You might be a redneck if …’

If a member of the Lakota Nation or an American of Chinese heritage is ever elected president of these United States …

speaking of Katrina, I ran across this interesting factoid:

Another of Senator Bush’s major legislative interests was flood and hurricane protection. He drafted Public Law 71, the Bush Hurricane Survey Act, enabling U.S. Army engineers to develop a new program of community protection against tidal flooding. (source: Wikipedia)

That would be Republican Senator from Connecticut Prescott Bush, 43’s granddaddy. I was unable to easily determine whether P.L. 71 was enacted.

This is tenuously related to your post, gnome but a chill just ran up my spine thinking that there’s a distinct possibility that we could end up in 2016, 2016 people, with a presidential ballot featuring

    …Jeb Bush vs Hillary Clinton.

It may not be the most likely but it’s in the top few of possibilities.

Surely this has to be one of the signs of the apocalypse, right?

Thank god I have time to locate my passport.

The debates would be interesting. I’m not sure if you just read an unattributed list of the statements if you could tell which one was answering, save for a question about women’s rights where Jeb would have to pander somewhat to his base.

wakeflood – Jeb could have been the 4th Bush as president as Prescott at one point was on an undated handwritten list of possible presidential candidates. Makes me wonder why the Kennedy ‘dynasty’ is so famous and the Bush ‘dynasty’ rarely gets mentioned. Is that the wish of the Bushes (like the Koch Bros) or a liberal media conspiracy?

Yup, those two families are America’s houses of Windsor and Tudor.

I can easily see Jeb hanging out and watching the Cruz’s and Perry’s, Mitt’s implode again and getting recruited late in the game so he doesn’t have to even be tightly vetted or parrot the stupidity that the Tea Party forces these guys to belch during the debates.

Conservative, liberal … it’s all snark wading into hateful tides. Re. PBush, it had nothing to do with Southern locales or Katrina–focus was on New England. I’ll have to assume it’s not as fun as puking all over a forum, but … read a book or subscribe to some archives to get beyond “factoids.”
