JanSParticipantnumbers on houses/apartments/buildings are a requirement..like for emergencies/police/fire, etc…or do you have any idea where one might find that information for the city of Seattle ..

kgdlgParticipantJan in all the buildings i have developed we have always been required to prominently number them so that fire and emergency vehicles can locate addresses and units properly. That being said, if the number falls off your house, I don’t think there is any enforcement agency that is going to treat this as an emergency or fine you a large amount. So my short answer is that they are required on all new buildings as part of your required fire review of your permit.

JanSParticipantI’m just curious. We had a number in the bldg., but it was removed when they painted, and not put back. There is a disabled person living here (me, actually), a newborn, and it simply makes sense. I was hoping to quote a source when I write to landlord, but so far have found nothing. Sigh.

I did a little poking around after I first saw this thread last night, and again this morning; Google, USPS, SFD, and the City’s main page, and haven’t been able to come up with anything to cite. I’ve also been brainstorming phrasing as to what to type into search parameters on Google, and the individual sites.
I’d try checking out DPD, as wake suggested, if you haven’t done so already. I’ll try to do some more looking, but have a bit of a busy day planned.
Maybe you could bake some cookies, take them over to Station 29, and ask the Crew there if they know of any citable sources? ;-)

kgdlgParticipantJan that is an issue! I suggest calling the fire dept and they will tell you that they require it for emergencies, especially given young and disabled living there. I am sure dpd can tell you this too but fire may be more accessible.

Interesting info on the page that seaopgal directly linked to, is that DPD is responsible for assigning street addresses to buildings.
That may seem totally obvious, but I seem to recall hearing many years ago, that USPS was responsible for assigning addresses.
That was pre-internet, so it’s not a scenario of “Don’t believe everything you read on the ‘net”, just one of “Don’t believe everything you read/hear”. ;-)

kgdlgParticipantDPD assigns the addresses but they go through a fire and postal review during permit. It is a coordinated process. In most cases the fire and postal reviews have more to do with positioning than the actual numbers.
