In reply to: Are RSVP’s Out Of Style?
swimcatMemberSome couples spend over a year (I’m not one of them) planning a wedding, and I find it appalling (that’s the only word I could come up with) that the invitees can’t take one and a half minutes to check a box, put a slip of paper into a self-addressed envelope, lick it, and drop it in the mail pick-up.

AnonymousInactivePeople are trying to actually use this site for references. You would think, after seeing that cinnamon is obviously still a around, you would realize how ridiculous you all look. Guess not. Who was it that made the comment as to when you don’t know something for fact, it can come back to bite you? Bet you’re all a little sore today, huh? Or, I guess, to ignorant to realize your mistake! Oh well, it’s a shame that some of you are ruining the use of this site for other people. Nice crowd of people you all are!

WSMomParticipantHeard last night on the Colbert Report:
Mitt Romney is making a real case for himself, with his soaring rhetoric he has explained that he understands the importance of the Reagan legacy to the Republican party. Romney says he understands we want to live in the house that Reagan built. Now, what’s so great about the house that Reagan built? Well, first of all Reagan built it in the hardest possible way. Using supply side economics you build the top floor first, you prop it up with homeless people, and you hope the rest of the house trickles down.

February 6, 2008 at 10:08 pm #613634In reply to: Wa Dem Caucus
KenParticipantIf you live here you can caucus.
The Dems use the honor system. You can fill out the form at the caucus if you like or just go ahead and do it online or by mail in/ downloaded form and though you will not have changed it officially enough to vote in the primary (sec of state makes those rules), it is still good enough for the Dem caucus.
There will also be forms to fill out if anyone wants to join the 34th district Democrats.
The online form and info is here:
http://www.34dems.org/members-join.htm
We will also be begging for donations at the caucus since the local district organization pays for the meeting rooms, and all expenses for the caucus which takes a big bite out of what we can give to local candidates (Darcy Burner in the 8th, Gov Gregoire etc..) later in the year. It is NOT tax deductible since it is political and there are many who cannot afford to donate. No one is turned away.
We never carry any more than the required newsletter postage over into the month after a general election.
The next 9 months will be the push for our nominee and the other state and national races. If you want to join with your neighbors and make a difference this is the time.

In the past there has been a meeting at the machinist hall where people gather to watch the results as they come in from various parts of the county and state. This year it might be just CNN.
I have not heard anything about it for this year but I will send out some questions.

my email is ken@ken-davis.net
My spam filter gets 400-700 spams a day since I use my real name as my email address and it is published on a dozen web sites (political mainly), so try to send plain text and I will reply with my cell phone.
Outlook has a variety of odd behaviors that sometimes precede it failing to work at all.
If you know where your pst file is (or search for *.pst) then you might find a file that you should backup. Outlook keeps damn near everything in this file and if it is deleted or even if it gets too big, it can stop outlook from opening. When it is approaching too big it will cause odd behaviors and sometimes hangs.
Also since you did not define “old” maybe we should talk first. Microsoft mail formats have changed over the years and often not for the better and sometimes in strange ways.
I suspect you are not using one of the really old ones but even incremental changes in outlook can impact certain configurations.
All outlook users should have a backup of their PST files.
Office itself can be a real resource hog even when it is correctly installed and configured.
I trim about 40% of it out at install. Did you max out the memory on your new laptop?
anyway fire off and email and we can figure out whether I need to see it at all.

JoBParticipantKen, turns out i didn’t get my voter registration changed here in time to actually vote at the caucus, but it is my understanding that i can still come to comment. is that true?

If you know your precinct you can look up the caucus location on this page.
http://www.34dems.org/news_caucus-2008-locations.htm
If you need to find your precinct number and don’t have your voter card handy, you can enter your name at the king county elections page:
https://www.metrokc.gov/elections/pollingplace/voterlookup.aspx
remember polling places are not caucus locations (though they can be)
My guess would be West Seattle High school if your in the same precinct as Hope Lutheran, otherwise you need to look it up.
There is also a caucus finder for the whole state at:
http://wa-demchairs.org/2008/caucuslocations.php
But it seems to be a bit slow indicating a lot of traffic. Actually after trying it several times it looks like it tipped over from the load…
and finally there is this map from king county. It is a somewhat large pdf file but you can zoom in to your location and see the boundary streets and precinct numbers.

felicialhMemberThank you everyone- HUGE help and makes me feel less anxiety over making this a success. There is still room (this is a new group that I just posted yesterday), here is a link to the group, including the first meeting where we will figure out all the details to how the group will work. Thanks again for the great info!

AnonymousInactiveHey, cinnamon. Really good to hear from you! Just in case you are not aware, everyone on this blog thinks that I am you. Hopefully someone will respond to your query, as I, too, would be interested in camps during Spring Break. YMCA wasn’t too appealing. Once again, sorry if I’ve ruined the blog experience for you. There were some heated debates going on and not too many people were very impressed by what I wrote and then all of a sudden, you and I are the same person!

February 6, 2008 at 7:55 pm #614842In reply to: Airport parking
AnonymousInactiveI’m not sure who you are flying (what airline) but I just wanted to remind you that if it’s Southwest, be sure to print your boarding pass 24 hours in advance. Especially since your traveling with a little one. They don’t pre-board families anymore, so you would want to try and be in the first boarding group.
February 6, 2008 at 7:46 pm #614841In reply to: Airport parking
bigmarkMemberThanks everyone. Normally I would take a taxi, but for this trip we are taking our 9-month old daughter, and I can’t really bear the thought of getting her and her carseat, along with all of our stuff, in a taxi. So I thought that driving down to the airport and taking a shuttle over would be the easiest, assuming it’s not too expensive. Turns out that there are some very reasonable options down there. As a couple of people mentioned, AAA offers discounts that can bring the cost down to $7 – $8 a day. If I can park for $50 for the week that I’m gone, I’m already better off than what the taxi would cost me. Not quite as convenient as door-to-door service (assuming the taxi comes when requested), but a pretty good trade-off. For shorter trips, this would be an even better deal. I’m going to try it on this trip and may consider it for future trips. Fortunately, both our departure and return flights are midday, so we can budget lots of time to get there and not have to worry about doing any of this in the dark. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks everyone for your input.

He was usually known as glibid o, however, even after a day of decafalon, he was feeling intaxication and considered using foreploy at the pub to raise his spirits. As he entered, he had a feeling of hipatits. However, after surveying the other patrons, he suddenly felt the Dopeler effect come over him. He quickly turned caterpallor and exited the pub the same ignoranus as when he entered.

WSBKeymasterWe were just at High Point the other day interviewing a librarian for an upcoming story and we can verify, that’s a nice meeting room. Probably overkill for this but our other favorite space for bigger gatherings (and it does cost $) is the Camp Long lodge.

WSBKeymasterWe encourage everybody to caucus.
It really is a great experience and doesn’t take that long.
Which reminds me, I need to find out how to get results of how West Seattle ‘voted’ once it’s all said and done on Saturday!

addParticipantKen – let me know how I can reach you off-blog if it’s easier. I didn’t start this thread but I do have a frustrating problem! Ever since loading my old MS Office onto my new laptop last year, my Outlook regularly locks up and “freezes” all laptop functionality for a period of 2-4 minutes. Sometimes Outlook doesn’t launch at all. There are some other funky things that happen that I could describe in more detail. Let me know how I can reach you!

SueParticipantI second the library. The only thing you can’t do there is to be selling anything. I used to frequently use the one at Highpoint which is a lovely room with huge windows and lots of light. You don’t even have to go down and get an application – you can print one out from the web and fax it in to them. Go to http://www.spl.org/default.asp?pageID=info_meetingrooms for the list of libraries with meeting rooms. Click on one and look for the link that says something about how to reserve a meeting room, and at that next link it’ll give you a link for the application and all the info you need on it.
