felicialhMemberI am starting a writers group for West Seattle and since there are more than a couple people already expressing interest I am starting to wonder where do groups typically meet in WS? Initially I thought a cafe but if the group is 15 or more not sure that is ok. Any ideas?

BonnieParticipantYou can meet at the library. Both the West Seattle library and the Southwest Library have meeting rooms. You need to go to the library first and get an application on file and then they will approve it. After that you can reserve rooms.
editing to add that the library is free to reserve a room.

addParticipantHigh Point Library also has a multi-purpose room.

SueParticipantI second the library. The only thing you can’t do there is to be selling anything. I used to frequently use the one at Highpoint which is a lovely room with huge windows and lots of light. You don’t even have to go down and get an application – you can print one out from the web and fax it in to them. Go to http://www.spl.org/default.asp?pageID=info_meetingrooms for the list of libraries with meeting rooms. Click on one and look for the link that says something about how to reserve a meeting room, and at that next link it’ll give you a link for the application and all the info you need on it.

BonnieParticipantOh yeah, forgot about High Point. Delridge probably does too.

WSBKeymasterWe were just at High Point the other day interviewing a librarian for an upcoming story and we can verify, that’s a nice meeting room. Probably overkill for this but our other favorite space for bigger gatherings (and it does cost $) is the Camp Long lodge.

JoBParticipantfelicialh, is your writer’s group still open? I am currently looking for a group.

felicialhMemberThank you everyone- HUGE help and makes me feel less anxiety over making this a success. There is still room (this is a new group that I just posted yesterday), here is a link to the group, including the first meeting where we will figure out all the details to how the group will work. Thanks again for the great info!

KenParticipantJust a note, a domain you might like that I let slide a while back. Looks like it is still unclaimed.

ErikParticipantdjake –
Thanks for the link, I’m starting to look for floor space to hold classes of my own, to help others foster their own creativity.

karenParticipantIf you are looking for a little larger space and want to rent, check out the Highland Park Improvement Club. It’s a little known rental space that is quite adequate for a group – up to 100? I can’t remember all the specifics as it wasn’t appropriate for what I was looking for but I would love to see more people use this space.
No, I have no affiliation with it. It is one of the few rental halls available in the Westwood Highland park area and I would hate to see it go away, although I suppose it is inevitable that change will happen!

fuzzycaterpillarMemberI like to meet at Coffee to a Tea with Sugar.(Coffee shop in the junction) They are open until ten pm, have large tables, and host many meetings. Call first to reserve a table. They are wonderful and the environment is condusive to creativity. It is quiet enough too, especially earlier in the week.

acemotelParticipantCommunity centers have rooms that can be rented by community groups. Also venues such as Camp Long, the Alki Bathhouse. Libraries, too; I think someone mentioned. I’m not sure about schools. That would be ideal but the school district always seems difficult to work with, (compared to other city departments) for some reason.
