    @odroku :

Hehehe, Salt Lick is in the airport and has pre-packed smoked briskets ready to go! $70 if I remember correctly but it’s 5lbs. Worth EVERY penny! Can’t wait to try out Trudy’s. I’ll make sure to find them and give them a shot. Austin is very similar to New Orleans in that if you have a bad meal there, that’s on you. lol

@odroku: Trudy’s? Where’s that? I’m always down to try out some new local spots and when it comes to tequila? You’re speaking my language. ;)

I LOVE Salt Lick! Can’t wait to try out some of the other local hot spots like Jacobson’s or one of the Black’s spots. I actually brought a full 5lb brisket from Salt Lick (in the airport) back up with me on my last trip a few weeks ago. It was AMAZING! ;)

Have you gone to Velvet Taco over in the Domain before? I know folks get really aggressive about the tacos down there but just saying, those were some amazing nibbles!

    Speak Up for Bristol Bay

For nearly a decade, we have fought to protect Bristol Bay from the proposed Pebble mine. As wild salmon populations decline globally, Bristol Bay’s prolific wild salmon runs and the economies they support make it a place of international importance.

We are calling on you to help defend this incredible resource and the communities and ecosystems that depend on these magnificent fish.

The 90 day public comment period for the proposed Pebble Mine at the headwaters of Bristol Bay is now open. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released a draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed mine, which fails to address the foreseeable impacts on Bristol Bay fisheries, communities, public lands, and cultures. This is our last chance to tell the lead permitting agency to oppose the Pebble Mine. Submit a comment, attend a public hearing, share with your friends, and tell your elected officials that we must protect Bristol Bay.

Growing up in Michigan, everybody shoveled. I’ve done one full and one partial shovel so far in the last few days, despite being over 65 and with bad knees and back. It is the law, as webshaf pointed out. The one caution I would make is that the shoveled areas are often more dangerous than the unshoveled spots, especially where the grade is steep. Walking in soft, uncompacted snow is probably safer, as the bare and/or compacted areas quickly ice over. Don’t mean to sound condescending, but there do seem to be a lot of people around here with little or no snow or ice experience. A broken tailbone is no fun!

I have to ask blbl, did you actually laugh out loud when you read what I wrote or are you using it as a barb? My guess is that it’s the latter.

We make judgments about all sorts of things all the time based on experience and available data. Teenagers do incredibly stupid things as a matter of routine. I have two children, one of whom is a teen and the other who’s 21 and they both do ridiculously stupid things from time to time.
I didn’t judge the kid, either. I made broad statements about modern day parenting and about teenagers in general and used the presented situation as a backdrop for it, everything from parental rage to inaccurate statements regarding the elements of shoplifting.

Oh, I used myself as an example, not as the measuring stick. I didn’t make it about me, you did.

Is it possible that the kid was unjustly accused? Sure.Did anything actually come of it? No. Could something more have come of it? you bet!

There’s always so many problems with the W.S mail, at least in the Alaska junction area. We never mail anything important from the mailbox and I have to pay extra to get things delivered by UPS or FedEx, but it’s worth it to know I’m going to receive it. I’m constantly getting other people’s mail, I’ve called to complain but it still happens. I’ve even put ‘please deliver to correct address’ for the mail person to pick up and they literally put the new mail on top of it, not taking it. Worse ever.

So….. I’m a member at this gym (the very best in Seattle IMO, this is one of 10 locations) & let me just say to have off-street parking at a business on California Ave. is a luxury these days, we use it as we can. That said, yeah, most do park as close to the garage doors as possible to try to stay off the sidewalk which will get you a ticket. Personally I have a stupid long vehicle so if I can’t get a spot on the side I’ll park on the street. But, I come from points all over Seattle (and don’t actually live in WS) and usually am getting there JUST in time for class so trying to get as close as possible to not be late for warm-up — and to clarify, it is NOT crossfit.

There are lots of members though that walk or bike or run to class. We do indeed try to be good neighbors…..maybe next time instead of “ranting”, come join us for a trial run — I was obese my entire adult life (25+ years) and was terrified to join a gym but it’s the BEST thing I’ve ever done, only thing I’ve ever stuck with (3 years on now & 80lbs. lost) b/c of the Community there — I LOVE IT and only agreed to move out of WS last summer b/c the community we were moving to had an IanFitness location. But I still go to the WS location as often as possible, re-arrange my schedule to do so, they’re my peeps and I love them and the trainers. An experience like none other I’ve found.

And tell you what, just b/c I think it’s all that an a bag of chips, I’m going to send this thread myself to the manager of that location…. b/c believe me, we care, she cares.

Keep in mind this location was originally built (I think) as a glass/garage/windshield replacement business, NOT a gym, so things morph and well… parking… on California Avenue…. just sayin’

PNTA is seeking intelligent, motivated, career-minded individuals who want to work hard and be promoted within a live production company. We are currently adding a Retail Sales Associate, preferably with technical entertainment, live production, or theatrical interests and background, who wants to train in and work a retail/customer service position in PNTA’s Seattle retail store. Our retail store positions are important training grounds for developing highly skilled entertainment-supporting professionals. Your primary responsibility as a Sales Associate is to act as the client’s champion by listening and seeking to understand, teaching, facilitating, problem-solving, and following-up until the client’s needs are met, even post-sale.

Your clients will primarily come from the theatrical, architectural, corporate, educational, industrial, event support, and house of worship market segments. As a Sales Associate you will train and work at the direction of the Retail Store Manager, who will be successful only if she is able to engage and empower you in effectively working with customers, other staff throughout our company, and with PNTA’s manufacturers and suppliers.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer Communications. You should like talking to customers in person or on the phone and you and believe a happy customer is a customer that never needs to ask what is going on with their order. You return emails and phone calls within the same business day, even if it’s only to say when you will be in touch with a more complete answer to their inquiry, fully confident in your ability to follow-through on your promise. You are highly organized and can use systems put into place so that you don’t “forget”. You are fearless when it comes to juggling the demands of multiple customers all at once, and can self-prioritize so that no balls are dropped. You live by the motto: “under promise, over deliver.”

Product Knowledge. It’s really helpful if you have some experience in live event production or some other technical field, but it’s not a necessity. Regardless of prior experience, you should have a voracious appetite for knowledge, comfortable with your geeky side and eager to learn about new technologies and products so you can teach co-workers and clients. There are no bounds to the topics that interest you, and no product applications that you don’t have some desire to investigate. If you have ever been called a “jack of all trades (with a cool head under fire)”, this is a position you can enjoy.

Sales. If you’ve read this far, you should have a pretty good idea of what we expect in terms of salesmanship. At PNTA we aim to create customers for life who return again and again, because we deliver exceptional service. While we are known for our technical expertise, our honesty, and our creative problem-solving are important as well. You will generate and manage sales, service, and rental transactions and enter and the related purchase requirements for items not in stock. You understand the importance of documenting transactions completely and accurately.

Inventory control. You are heads up enough to make sure inventory is being well merchandised and properly priced and notice when we have too much or too little of an item, letting the Purchaser know so that the problem can be addressed. You don’t mind filling shelves with incoming inventory and keeping the store looking tidy and attractive. You have ideas on how to present key products in an attractive and educational manner, and the gumption to execute on your ideas.

    Other (sometimes Seasonal) Duties:
Assist in other departments, including warehouse and/or shipping, and with periodic inventories as needed.
Assist in fulfilling web-based sales orders.

    Qualifications:

Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
Must be mobile and active, able to stand, walk, bend and lift merchandise up to 50 lbs.
Must have basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications.
Must have the ability to read and write English.
Must have solid math skills, including measurement, conversions and determining quantities needed (e.g., basic algebra and geometry). Advanced calculus and quantum physics is conversationally appreciated but unnecessary.
    Must be dependable and punctual.
A sense of humor is strongly recommended but can’t be required.
One (1) year production experience preferred but not a requirement
One (1) year customer service experience preferred but not a requirement.

If we haven’t scared you off yet, submit a cover letter to qbxhq-6758467376@job.craigslist.org.
