Mav, it’s only Wednesday morning. If you e-mailed Sunday afternoon it may be taking a while to get up the chain. With something so urgent, I wouldn’t rely on e-mail, I’d call (and I don’t say that lightly – I rely on e-mail and other online communication means for 95% of what’s not done F2F). The various corporate #’s are here:
https://www.costco.com/Service/FeaturePageLeftNav.aspx?ProductNo=10045080
and you certainly can continue demanding to speak to people further on up the line from whomever originally answers the phone.

GenHillOneParticipantYou may be disappointed to find that the school district course is probably the least expensive, but still not by much. There isn’t a lot that is actually offered IN West Seattle either, though 911 has held a few classes out of SW Community Center now. FWIW, I got equally good feedback on Swerve and 911 when looking.

Very low cost ($7.00) bluetooth options, also.

squareeyesParticipantHere is a resource from the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner that might help with your track record question:
2008 Homeowners Insurance Company Complaints: https://fortress.wa.gov/oic/complaints/complaints.aspx?Type=HO
2008 Private Passenger Auto Insurance: https://fortress.wa.gov/oic/complaints/complaints.aspx
I’m in the process of getting quotes after realizing I am paying nearly $400 too much per year for car insurance through AAA/ACIC. I need to decide in the next few days as I’m due for renewal soon. So far I’ve really liked talking to Heather Proctor with State Farm on SW Barton, but I haven’t signed on the dotted line yet so can’t really report on customer service.

Thanks in advance!

November 5, 2009 at 5:50 am #681666CeeBeeParticipantIf you still want to shake up some folks at Westwood, depending on if you think you got a real response of just a answer to get you off their backs, you can contact the Postal Inspection Service directly, referred to in an earlier post as Postal Security. My dad worked for the Inspection Service for 15 years and, while he couldn’t talk much about his cases, they were always investigating carriers for theft and mail abuse.
Family vacations also involved stopping at many small town post offices to drop off test envelopes to measure the speed of service, and I was probably the only kid in Bellevue to have full sized posterboard fingerprints with matching ID indexing lines hanging in her bedroom.

JeffSavoieMemberI have something to add to this topic, as my storage unit was also broken into…
https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=7018
Cameras only cover the lobby, garage, and elevator, not the halls inside the storage area, nor individual units.
There were actually, according to the police report I obtained yesterday, a total of 13 units involved.
Locks weren’t opened, or broken, the units (at least mine and another near me) were the type with swinging doors, secured by a flat metal sliding bolt, and then two locks (one with a key the company has a master to, and one that is “private” to the tenant).
In my case, the door was simply pried open, bending the bolt in… that’s how the manager and I got back in, to inspect the contents, repairing and re-locking it when we finished.
The units with this type of door are no longer, in my opinion, secure, and efforts should be made to vacate them.
The insurance, offered by Willis, isn’t any better than the flimsy doors.
They aren’t very cooperative, and if possible, like Emmy Jane has done, I’d back it up or replace it with a more effective policy.
I’d also make a documentation, including photos of any and all items placed inside, and I dunno, maybe even appraisals of items not documented by receipts.
Proof of ownership, and value (including depreciation), is at issue, in my own case.
I may be able to narrow down the time line some, since I visited my unit, on or about the 24th or 25th, and it was intact and secure.
There’s talk of a second floor door, as a possible exit point… but I have already been overwhelmed by the amount of disinformation given by management, and how the police report doesn’t jibe with the stories I got.
I don’t know what to believe anymore.
Items taken, could possibly have been relocated to another unit, which would explain access, to the second floor… codes for the elevator only allow one to access their own level.

October 23, 2009 at 3:33 pm #680719In reply to: Wanting to understand bus ettiquete
miwsParticipantJan, part of the policy of boarding/exiting by the front door only, between 7P-7A, is that all riders must pay as they board. Could make it a bit confusing, when I’d be catching an early bus (usually the first outbound of the day on that route) to work in White Center, that originated from downtown before 7:00 am, but got to my pickup stop somewhat after 7:00. Most drivers would have the “Pay as you leave” sign posted, but there would be the occasional one that would have “Pay as you board” showing. ;-)
Having ridden Metro for nearly 36 years, except for the 11 that I had a car, I’ve seen different drivers adhering, or not, to policies in different manners, and to different levels. Yes, just as in any service or business one deals with, there will be employees that are great, those that are mediocre, and those that are jerks.
I personally don’t begrudge a driver that goes strictly by the book. Yeah, there are some that maybe do it because they are on a power trip, but, I’ve also heard enough stories of how a driver can get written up for even what seems to be the smallest deviation from policy. And, as with any type of service, or business, there’s always office politics that may play ino it to some extent. Perhaps a supervisor has a grudge against a particular driver, and is just looking for a reason to write that driver up. Sure, not likely to be any supervisors out there at 11:00pm, but, if there *do* happen to be other passengers on the bus, there’s always a possibility (though likely relatively rare), that they may consider themselves a self-appointed supevisor, and might report the driver.
As fare as the topic, I’m one of those that is usually ready to get off the bus right away. Drove me nuts last year, while trying to regain my physical strength, after getting out of the hospital. I had to wait until the bus came to a complete stop before even standing up. (Although I usually managed to get a seat near the front door.)
I’m also one of those that has the pass/fare ready blocks before getting off. Years ago, when I worked downtown, I carried a backpack, and a small hardside cooler that was my “lunchbox”. So, I got in the habit up having the pass ready well ahead of time, since I had to gather those items up, as well as the occasional bag(s) from any shopping I may have done downtown. I find that even if I’m traveling hands free, if I wait the the last second to get the pass or fare ready, then I end up fumbling, and am still trying to get it ready as I approach the farebox. The pass *never* gets hung up in that little slot in the wallet, if I take it out four stops ahead! ;-)
I remember reading on, I believe it was, Kitsap Transit’s site several years ago, that they expect riders to wait until the coach comes to a complete stop before standing up to get off. I also have heard of transit agencies having an all exit by rear door policy. Although I see some logic in that, I’d personally hate for Metro to institute such a policy, at least in a strict manner, because even being relatively able bodied, but having rather short legs, and somewhat of a balance problem, I often find it much easier and safer feeling, to get off at the front door, considering it usually has better handrail set ups, and is usually on level, paved well-lit after dark ground, when the area the back door ends up in , is often lacking in some, or all of those.
Finally, to jim, and any others for that matter, I strongly urge you to get an Orca Card, if you haven’t done so already. It saves from having to fumble for change/tickets/transfers etc if you don’t ride often enough to justify the cost of a pass, or, it can be set up, from what I understand, to act as a Puget Pass, or Flex Pass. Until the end of the year, IIRC, the card itself is free, after that, it will cost just five bucks to obtain/replace one. Of course, you have to pay to add value to it, which can be done online.
If you choose to register it, you can track your usage, and if the card is lost or stolen, you can notify ORCA, and they will deactivate it, and send a replacement (for the five buck fee), and transfer the remaining balance of the old card.
It can be used on Metro, Sound Transit, Pierce Transit, Community Transit, Kitsap Transit, and possibly others that I can’t recall right now. It can also be used on the State Ferries, (possibly for walk-ons only, don’t recall that for sure either) and can be used on the Water Taxi, which I have done on one occasion. One thing about that though, when I did so, back in June I think, they didn’t have an ORCA Card reader onboard. Don’t know if that’s changed now, but the crewmember held my card until we were underway, apparently to record the card number to input later. I admit, though I’m a very trusting person when dealing with those doing there job, I felt a bit uneasy, that had there been any others using their card at the time, they could have gotten mixed up accidentaly. The card was fairly new to me at the time, And as I was sitting topside before she brought it up to me, I was running a bunch of numbers through my head, trying to remember the card number! ;-)

October 20, 2009 at 11:29 pm #592731Topic: Political ad, just to be on the record
in forum Open DiscussionWSBKeymasterA Twitter contact called our attention to the fact that a new anti-McGinn video ad (it’s online, don’t know if it’s been on TV) uses (credited) WSB video. (Nothing dramatic, just a McGinn clip from the Highland Park candidate forum a month ago:
https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=20955
) We post all our video on publicly accessible sharing sites so they didn’t need, nor did they seek, our permission for that, although I’m going to look harder at the terms/conditions of such sites to see if there’s any way to stipulate an acceptable reuse of your video when you use a public host like that (I suspect not but haven’t read the fine print). Just going on the record in case anyone sees it and wonders.
Old hat for old media but a little odd to see your website’s name onscreen in a political ad for the first time.
