Well-known West Seattle DJ Marty Riemer out at The Mountain

Radio’s a rough business. Your editor here spent a few years as a DJ long ago and experienced the classic case of getting fired after your show, with no good explanation except “we’re making a change.” According to this story published tonight at seattletimes.com (WSB partner), that’s what happened today to well-known DJ Marty Riemer, a West Seattleite, along with his on-air partner Jodi Brothers, who told The Times, “”The Marty Riemer Show has temporarily relocated to Alki, where Marty and I will be drinking coffee in the morning.” On his Facebook page, which is full of comments from outraged fans, Riemer replied to one of them, “You are so right about Facebook being able to soften the blow of a radio ending. There was a time when from one day to the next a radio personality would disappear and you’d never know what happened to them. Silver lining :-)” He’d been with the station a dozen years, which is a remarkably long tenure in radio.

Aw, there goes one more station on my preset dial. I didn’t really listen for KMTT’s music on my way to work, I liked the good, intelligent (and irreverent) fun between the rotation of too-predictable songs. I guess John in the Morning at KEXP has me all to himself now. Till we meet again, Marty and Jodi!

  • mark September 25, 2009 (7:55 pm)

Wow. I loved The Mountain and was a solid listener. Listening to Marty (and Jodi) in the morning was part of my ritual. My wife had NPR on in the bedroom, I had the Mountain in the kitchen. Marty, please, send your resume to NPR, tell them you can guarantee to increase listeners by at least one if they will take you on. What a bummer.

  • onceachef September 25, 2009 (8:10 pm)

Change is inevitable….Marty will land somewhere else in due time and maybe KMTT will find an engaging new voice…you’ll all survive!

  • add September 25, 2009 (8:29 pm)

WHAT? I can’t believe this!!!?? I’ve been a Mountain listener since the beginning and Marty has been around forever. He’s a great community advocate, too – I remember him MC-ing the first Gathering of Neighbors several years back. I totally understand making changes but I wonder what it was based on? I felt the same way when they busted up Fisher & West. Dang it.

Oh, and I was really starting to enjoy Jodi Brothers, too.

  • WSEvelyn September 25, 2009 (8:33 pm)

Yes everyone will survive the firing, and of course it was the stations right to make the change, but cha know it is also the listener’s rights to disagree with the change and to switch their listening choice to another station!
    Marty & Jodi “rock!”.

  • miws September 25, 2009 (10:11 pm)

I’ve never been a Mountain Listener, but remember when Marty was on the old KJR 950 A.M. back when it was Top-40. In fact, if memory serves, it was Marty that was on the early evening shift, back on December 8, 1980, where I first learned of the murder of John Lennon.

    .

I can certainly relate to the shock and frustration of Marty and Jodi’s fans. Hmmmmm…..Friday, end of show firing? I wonder if Entercom still provides a free box of Kleenex on the conference room table where the firing takes place, such as they did 10.5 years ago, upon firing Pat Cashman and Lisa Foster, from the then KIRO F.M.?

    .

The one good thing that came out of that experience, were some deep, and still ongoing freindships of fans, which I’m priveleged to be a part of, plus, two marriages. Still think the original premise for the firing sucked though.

    .

All that being said, best of luck to Marty and Jodi, and to their devoted fans. Believe me, I feel your pain….

    .

    Mike

As a fan of both Marty and Jodi–as DJs and as people–I am very saddened to hear about this. Their show was the only reason I listened to commercial radio anymore. I’ll miss them on the air and I send best wishes to both of them for their future endeavors.

  • pizza September 25, 2009 (11:48 pm)

What a really bad decision by KMTT. Marty and Jodi were outstanding DJ’s. They will be missed greatly. I live in Europe and loved listening to Marty and Jodi’s show on my internet radio. I will now be switching the dial to KINK FM in Portland which is a much better station that makes much better decisions than this.

  • Michael September 25, 2009 (11:58 pm)

It’s hard to watch Marty Riemer get fired while idiots like “Ron & Don” get their show expanded.
    .
On the other hand, when “Ron & Don” finally reach the end of their line with Bonneville, they’ll probably be stuck waiting tables at Chili’s, while Marty is no doubt getting a voice-mail full of offers as we speak.

  • WSB September 26, 2009 (12:00 am)

Somehow I more imagine Ron and Don behind the counter at Dick’s.

  • Leroniusmonkfish September 26, 2009 (5:47 am)

I could have sworn it was Ron calling out my order to Don at the In N’ Out today.

  • TBMR September 26, 2009 (6:30 am)

Bummer. I enjoyed their “real” personalities and that they had a sense of humor. Now I will have to find a new station for the morning. Once the sting is gone and I’m not expecting to hear their voices anymore, I’ll give the Mountain a try again in the morning. Best of luck to both of them!

  • Oliver September 26, 2009 (2:05 pm)

I’m outraged and saddened. Marty and Jodi were the only reason I had not subscribed to satellite radio. I always thought who needs that when I’ve got the Mountain, but now I will have to boycott it. What a stupid move by management.

  • Denise September 26, 2009 (4:49 pm)

I was just thinking on Friday about what a breath of fresh air Marty and Jodi’s program was in the morning, compared to the irritating babblings of other morning shows. There goes my daily stress equalizer! Wherever they land – and I hope it’s in Seattle, I’ll be there!

  • Nancy September 27, 2009 (10:30 am)

I’ve listened to the Mtn for years and loved Marty at his afternoon show and then his morning show. In past several years I’ve gone off KMTT music (too much old stuff; not enough new music), but always listen to Marty’s show because it was fun and they usually have some very interesting interviews.

Bring on the change; perhaps they’ll improve the music. But I will definitely listen to Marty wherever he is if he is back on the radio.

  • Mike September 27, 2009 (1:06 pm)

Did something happen on Friday’s show? Any sort of weird tension with Carol Burnett or something that might have triggered this?

  • marthanance September 27, 2009 (1:49 pm)

Who are Ron and Don? And what is wrong with working at Dick’s? In fact, who is Marty Reimer? What is this “Mountain” you speak of? KEXP is the only radio station in Seattle.

  • WSB September 27, 2009 (1:54 pm)

    We’re partial to 89.5, ourselves.
    Student-run!

But wishing Mr. Riemer the best in the quest for what’s next.

  • susiequeue September 28, 2009 (5:52 am)

This morning I had a sick feeling in my stomach when an unfamiliar voice said, “this is the mountain’s morning show.” I had to run down and see what the heck! I too was a loyal Mountain fan and honestly it was only these two Marty and Jodi and sometimes John in the afternoon (mostly the 5:20 funny) that kept me listening…especially after a stale summer of music. I’m out.

  • angrywestseattleite September 28, 2009 (8:08 am)

Don’t forget our other famous DJ Robin Erickson(the other half of Robin and Maynard)who is soon to be an ex West Seattleite. Or Dogpatch as she always called it. A true radio legend who did not get the send off she deserved.

Radio is dying a slow death and it is truly sad to see Marty gone. Thanks to IPODS and the internet, alot of people simply do not listen any more. Very sad.

  • sun*e September 28, 2009 (8:10 am)

I was so glad to hear Jodi’s familiar voice added to Marty’s morning show. It brought me back to my dedicated days of listening to her, Andy, and Steve at 107.7 (a station I never listen to anymore since they left). Then I was so excited when I found them again on K-Rock… life was back to “normal”. Then all of a sudden that station became Jack and there was no Andy, Steve, or Jodi to be heard so of course I had to turn Jack off… not to be listened to again either. I’ve been a faithful listener to 103.7 for years because of its’ music mostly and I was so delighted and proud of the station when they added Jodi to Marty’s morning show. I thought what a smart move. Now, all I say is what a stupid move it was to fire them! What the what?!!!! I hope to hear their familiar voices again somewhere in the future. Hey Jodi – where did Andy go?… I’m still looking for him.

  • sun*e September 28, 2009 (8:23 am)

I wish you both the best wherever you may go.

  • Kathy September 28, 2009 (9:19 am)

I was incredibly disappointed to turn my radio on this morning, as I do each morning to hear their show, only to learn that Marty and Jodi were no longer with The Mountain. Time to switch over to John in the Morning for good on KEXP. What a HUGE bummer and a poor decision on Entercomm’s part.

    Kathy

  • Wendy September 28, 2009 (10:24 am)

    Marty – you’re the best!

  • riemer fan September 28, 2009 (3:28 pm)

This just sucks – will have to search the dial for a new am show to listen to.
Good luck & best wishes to Marty & Jodi. I hope you end up somewhere local.
Marty, thanks for 12 years of non-stupid DJ chatter – the station’s playlist has been slipping the past few years but you have always been worth listening to.

  • RoyOtis September 28, 2009 (4:25 pm)

Radio is one of them very unstable and crazy jobs. Marty held down his spot for a long time. Gonna miss you and Jodi.

Stop by the Roy Otis Corndog Hut in Kenmore and I will give you guys a FREE Corndog. Mustard will cost you fifty cents.

  • angrywestseattleite September 29, 2009 (8:36 am)

    ROY OTIS LIVES ON!!!!

  • Colleen September 29, 2009 (5:32 pm)

Impermanence is part of life on this planet, change inevitable. That said, I’ll be changing my morning listening to another station. Marty & Jodi, your intelligent wit and irreverent humor were of the highest caliber. As difficult as this was to hear and as shocking as I imagine it was to you both, I believe only good will come to two such talented people. Best wishes. KMTT – instant Karma’s gonna git ya.

  • Tracy September 29, 2009 (7:59 pm)

What the @#$% I need my Joby and Marty in the morning! Funny, witty and a local flare. I can’t stand to turned my radio at work anymore,(due to the job hazzard KMTT has created this week) I’ll get caught sleeping at my desk,BORING!Dave doesn’t miss a thing then I’ll get canned just like you guys! I’m out, done, see ya. I’ll be scanning the radio looking for you two, if i can stay awake. You two are a dynamic team, hear you back soon. Loyal Fan , Tracy

  • Kathy September 29, 2009 (8:47 pm)

Fired? What? Those were my only comments once I heard the terrible news. Then I sat wondering, selfishly, what about me? What will I do? The only thing Ie can do as an angry listener is, well, stop listening and pray that Marty and Jodi take out a full page ad that keeps us all informed as to what/where they’ll be next. I’m not doing anything next Tuesday, want to picket their old building??

  • WSB September 29, 2009 (9:28 pm)

Re: taking out an ad, we’d be happy to run one :) BUT better for those purposes, he seems to be actively participating in his Facebook page (follow the link in our blurb above) and I’m sure the second something new happens, you’ll see it there – since the original message about the firing, he’s posted messages of thanks and messages of rumor-debunking — TR

  • Renaye September 29, 2009 (11:06 pm)

I just got back from vacation and driving to work, switched on the mountain as I have everyday for years… and no Marty and no Jodi.. what the heck? I looked online and see they were canned..grrrrrrr.. so now the mountain has joined the ranks of other stations who boot out the the beloved dj’s and play the canned music… no thanks.. I have cd’s…. don’t need the mountain anymore.. Best of luck to you Marty and Jodi and ty for all the laughs and enjoyment in mornings past. I hope when you get your next gig you will let us all now. Bless you both.

  • NF September 30, 2009 (10:02 am)

Marty & Jodi, you both will be truly missed. Your show was the only one I listened to every morning and my husband and I were already looking to another 20:funny festival. I hope you both end up on another Seattle station soon. Selfishly, my morning commute hasn’t been the same without you guys. Good luck and keep us posted!

  • Suzanne September 30, 2009 (11:10 am)

I’ve been out of town, returned Monday night, turned on my car radio Tuesday morning as usual while taking my son to school……and…..nobody was there. No Marty, No Jodi. WTF?!
Are they sick? On vacation? The mystery DJ said nothing. Listened in again this morning, same story, finally called the station and was given the news. Unbelievable!! I called back and left a message with Dave Benson, program director, and said they’ve lost me in the morning. Better hire Marty and Jodi back. Bad move. Uncool. NOT AWESOME, Entercom….that is two in a row, now. First Luke and Jen, now these two. You lay one hand on John Fisher and I swear I’ll convert my basement into a radio studio and hire them all back. Give you a run for your money, dude. In the meanwhile, you can tell your advertisers another listener is gone from the morning show.

    BAD FORM. VERY BAD FORM.
Hang in there, Marty and Jodi! We love ya and we know you’ll be back someplace. Someplace better…..

  • Chuck Sparrow September 30, 2009 (12:24 pm)

Like many others, today was my last day with KMTT. The music lineup was oh so predictable but I listened because of Marty and kept the radio on all day to KMTT. But that has ended, time to listen to some of my CDs and wait for Marty to end up somewhere else. The program director, Dave Benson, really needs to be fired as the guy is an idiot.

  • Chuck Sparrow September 30, 2009 (12:29 pm)

Forgot to mention, that I moved here from Chicago and used to listen to WXRT. If you go to their web site, you’ll see that they have a number of DJs with 20+ and some with 25+ years at the station. A quality radio station does not let great people go. This Benson guy is still an idiot.

  • Stephen September 30, 2009 (12:58 pm)

Anyone know why they were fired? There must be a story.

  • Kim K September 30, 2009 (3:53 pm)

To say that I am stunned is putting it lightly. I have listened to KMTT for about 15 years now, and I feel that the loyal listeners have had to endure quite a lot, but now this?! What’s next? A change to a classical music format? This is Seattle, people! We need Marty and Jodi! I can’t tell you how many mornings I have had the pleasure of laughing uncontrollably at those two characters. They totally rock!
Well, KMTT, what’s your next move? Clearly, this latest decision was the wrong one. Until upper management can figure out how to remove their heads from their behinds and catch a clue, I’ll have to search for my radio entertainment elsewhere.
Good luck to Marty and Jodi! I’ll be looking for you guys in West Seattle and anxiously awaiting your return to radio in the VERY near future!

    XOXOX

  • judi g September 30, 2009 (7:17 pm)

I can’t believe Marty & Jody got fired
why? I won’t listen to the mountain anymore.

  • Scott September 30, 2009 (9:21 pm)

Unbelievable! KMTT management has made a huge mistake. Where ever Marty and Jodi land, they will have a loyal following. The Mountain was the only preset I listen to. Time to start scanning the dial for other stations.

  • Nancie September 30, 2009 (9:38 pm)

I’m dispondent. I can’t believe that I won’t hear Marty on the Mt anymore. This has to be some extravagant hoax right!? No body with half a brain would fire the funniest, nicest guy on radio would they? Of course not. Surely they’ll be back. If not…I love John and Shawn as well but Marty was my man. I don’t know if I can continue to support a station that is so willing to let good talent go. So now are we going to get some Kent and Allen type morning show!? UGH! Well, I won’t be listening, I can’t bear to hear what they will be replaced by. Farewell, I will miss you greatly.

  • Janer September 30, 2009 (11:26 pm)

I will also be looking for a new station to listen to.Marty and Jodi were a huge part of my morning routine. I was listening on Friday and the Carol Burnett bit was great. I don’t get it.Management has made an unbelievable blunder. Can’t wait to find out where these two will surface. The dynamic duo will be back. Just hope it’s local.

  • Jeanne October 1, 2009 (8:30 am)

I too tuned in Monday and no Marty & Jodi. Never did hear from the DJ where they were and figured I just missed it… Tuesday… Wednesday… Thursday, still no mention of them! Did a search and found this out. I’ve been a listener since I first moved to Olympia in January 2000. My home, car & work radio never tuned to another station since. It was hard when West left, but managed, and now Marty! As much as I love John Fisher, I just can’t stay with a station that would do this to such great DJs. Would someone direct me to a station that comes close to KMTT? I feel totally lost… I’ve lost part of myself… HELP!

  • Chris October 1, 2009 (9:14 am)

Wow…..Like so many others have posted, I almost seem lost in the mornings and wind up at work not really knowing how I got there without Marty and Jodi and the whole morning team waking me up and giving me a down home town knee slapping laugh to get me headed in the right direction. Management must have known they would loose a huge section of the population by making this move. Doesn’t seem like they care about their listeners. I feel bad for Shawn and John as well because I have left the Mountain like so many others in droves.
Please let us know where you end up Marty & Jodi, and Best of Wishes …………..Chris

  • JimInRenton October 1, 2009 (2:11 pm)

I only wish I would have figured out they were fired before I bought the LMML #15 CD.

I say “BOYCOTT THE LMML #15 CD” out of principle.

I used to listen to them stream on the Internet when on vacation and even when work sent me to India for a month. Mostly they made a boring commute every morning FUN.

Farewell KMTT, you will need all the luck you can muster to stay afloat. You blew it. I am deleting KMTT from my radio preset and my Internet browser. See Ya!

Marty/Jodi, best of luck and let us know where you land! Even if I have to stream you on the Internet, I’ll find and listen to you guys!
    Jim.

  • aJim October 1, 2009 (6:18 pm)

Too bad… Since I got a car kit for my Pre I’ve been listening to streaming custom radio instead of John Fisher (not a fan of John, sorry), but I still listened to Marty & Jodi in the AM. Guess I’ll have to get a car charger and listen to my Pre all the time.
I think the best thing about Marty & recently Jodi was they backed the local scene from music to comedy to activism/involvement. They both usually had something funny and interesting to relate about their weekend, promo gig, or personal foibles or sucesses. I’m going to need a different way to stay even remotely connected!
the mountain is certainly off my list.

  • Kim October 2, 2009 (11:52 pm)

Amen! I agree with 90% of the previous posts. My morning routine will be greatly altered. I’m really confused? I felt like the Marti and Jodi’s show had a huge and loyal following. What was/is the station’s rationale for making the change? Does anyone have any insight? Bye, bye mountain! It was fun while it lasted.

  • Sarah October 3, 2009 (8:22 am)

Whole family loved them from 40 something parents to pre-teen and elementary kids. Played along with actual/factual and blatant stereotyping, went to their recent comedy show at the Paramount. It was for them we listened to that station and without them, there’s no reason to.

  • Jodi October 3, 2009 (2:12 pm)

I’m still in utter shock. A loyal listener of Marty since KXRX days, I depended on Marty and Jodi to get my day started, they are hilarious together. There must be more to the story…I wish them well and hope to find them on the airwaves soon.

  • Jill October 4, 2009 (4:39 pm)

My morning is not the same without Marty and Jodi. I feel like i lost two good friends. What was the mountain management thinking? Good luck Marty and Jodi and hope to hear the both of you again soon on a different station. Take Care

  • Janice October 4, 2009 (5:23 pm)

I remember and was impressed with Marty after a radio poll was taken that said the Beatles were one of the most overrated bands ever. That sent my Beatles fan husband into a tailspin. A nasty email to KMTT ensued. Very shortly after, Marty sent a thoughtful and well written message back explaining how they had come to that decision. Couldn’t really agree with the station, but could see their point.
Now I’ve written a note to KMTT’s manager to tell him that he’s a major dunce for letting Marty go. I don’t think I’ll be hearing back from him. There is no way he can explain himself! Marty is smart, funny and extremely talented (Jodi too). Their firing is an incredible mistake. KMTT will pay for this error in judgment!

  • Cara October 5, 2009 (9:26 am)

I must be in the Twilight Zone! How will I get through the morning commute without Jodi’s wit and timing? I can only hope that Marty and Jodi resurface together soon, what a team!

  • Kent October 6, 2009 (8:07 am)

I only listened to KMTT on the way to work – what a bummer to not have Marty and Jodi to listen to. Who ever is on now is sooo boring and now am switching between several stations. Hopefully Marty and Jodi will be on somewhere soon-nothing else like them!

  • April October 6, 2009 (11:03 am)

The morning show is truly boring and I do not like the music selections – can’t bear to listen to the station anymore. Good luck to you both – you made the mornings start off right!

  • Jim October 6, 2009 (12:05 pm)

Rarely am I shocked by a radio droping one of (in my humble opinion) one of their TOP DJ buecause as stated it happens alot.

In this case I am REALLY REALLY shocked and GREATLY disapointed in the loss of Marty and Jody. The Mtn has lost this listener for sure because of this move. I am gald I am not alone.

If all I wanted to do was to listen to music I could make my own special CDs or playlists via my PC or Itunes and I would be set. But radio is MADE by its hosts and none are more listend to (again my opinion) than thos morning people who have a REAL talent for this tought time slot.

I am moving back to California in 2 weeks and I URGE Marty and Jody to Come to the sunshine state where I would make you my favorite station there.

If not, you we be remembered as one of my favorite WA icons.

  • Suzanne October 6, 2009 (1:20 pm)

Yes, this was a totally LAME decision! They lost me, too, as a listener. I can’t beleive they’d can Marty and Jodi! Stupid, stupid, stupid!

  • Donna October 6, 2009 (5:36 pm)

I am stunned. Just home from vacation and couldn’t find Marty and Jodi this morning. It was eerie. Now I’m outraged and completely finished with the Mountain. I could only stomach Shawn for 5 minutes after the Marty/Jodi show…now there’s no reason to tune in at all. The smartest, coolest DJ’s in Seattle fired? Stupid!!!! I hope they re-surface; I’ll be there!

  • Kathleen October 7, 2009 (12:06 pm)

I attended the CD release party for OTM#15 and everyone was really noisy when Jodi & Marty took the stage to introduce Barcelona.

I was away that following weekend, but did hear bits and pieces of the last show, and was aware they were supposed to be at a Bartell’s on Monday afternoon (giving away copies of OTM#15 before the release date), but when I didn’t hear them last week on the station, I was beginning to think they were out sick or something. Ironic, I thought, if they both got sick at Bartell’s!

When they still weren’t back by this morning, I jumped online and found out about them being fired. I got laid off last January despite having appointments set up for the following week–so I’ve been there and feel your shock, anxiety, and pain.

And I also know within a day I was, “hmmm, wonder what I can do next?” and thinking about what else I could do.

I like KMTT. I still miss the Fisher & West morning show. And I really thought Marty got better when Jodi showed up (I used to wonder why she never got co-billing, like the “Reimer & Brothers Show” or something). But it sure has been easy to keep hitting the snooze button the past couple of weeks…

Good luck and I hope y’all land on your feet–and the airwaves–soon!

  • zack October 7, 2009 (7:10 pm)

I Thought I was the only one that got up so early until I found you waking up with me .I hope I can find you Two together soon. Thanks for all the times we had together .How can I find where you go? Thanks Zack

  • WSB October 7, 2009 (7:19 pm)

Zack – follow the link to Marty’s Facebook page in our story above – he is updating it and in fact has just posted a video clip with news of a “Severance Blowout” party on the waterfront Oct. 22nd – we will post about that separately soon, most likely, but you can keep up with them on the FB page – TR

  • zack October 7, 2009 (7:33 pm)

    Thanks for your help ,Zack

  • Jack/Deborah October 7, 2009 (8:02 pm)

Why would the mountain fire some of the best on-air talent in the country, and NOT expect to lose listeners!? I am very disappointed in this decision, and I truly hope that the station rethinks it’s decision. It is such a shame to lose some of the most talented people in radio. I can’t say that I enjoy, or even find the new morning show the least bit entertaining. Jodi and Marty are pretty cool when they can appeal to both a thirteen year old boy, and his mother. BRING BACK MARTY AND JODI!!!!!!!!!!

  • Susan C October 8, 2009 (10:07 am)

Radio should never have been handed over wholesale to corporate ownership. All they see is dollars. They have destroyed every ounce of soul in local radio.

I remember when Drew Dundon disappeared from the dial on Sunday mornings and his show quickly became a sludge of the usual crap. Now it’s Marty and Jodi’s turn to take a hike.

The Mountain as we knew it is gone with little hope of it returning. I miss the place.

  • Marcia October 8, 2009 (10:19 am)

I think Marty and Jody were just hitting their stride – getting better every day. They were community orientated, intelligent, funny and fun — good listening for early morning grind. Good luck, Mountain, in finding a replacement. As for myself, I’m going to be very picky. I’m already listening to other stations. I don’t like the way these two were fired. Reminds me of the Gestapo – here today, gone tomorrow.

  • Dan C. October 9, 2009 (1:29 am)

I’m a bit late to this party but want to add: David Benson – Undoubdetly you are driven by Entercom corporate desires to increase short term profit, and your comp plan probably creates incentives to make these types of decisions. I am an unapologetic capitalist and do not blame you for this. What does torque me, is when corporations like Entercom, distanced from the reality of the local market, lose sight of the long term, big picture, that creates the type of listener loyalty that turns Marty and Jodi’s fans into unpaid evangelists for KMTT. I used to count myself as a member of this group, but am now looking for other frequencies to program my presets. David, I sympathize with you, as in your mind, you are doing the best job you can as defined by the short sighted “lets make the numbers look good for the next quarter” mentality of Entercom. You probably also get paid well to make these decisions, and endure the abuse that you’re getting from legions of Marty and Jodi’s fans, and I’m guessing that you have somewhat of a thick skin. If you have not already read it, I recommend picking up a copy of Fred Reichheld’s “The Ultimate Question” a brilliant work of business management that helps any business distinguish between short term “bad profit” decisions and long term “good profit” decisions. If Entercom execs had read this, Marty and Jodi would still be at KMTT, and I would not be twirling the dial, to find out where they landed. Best of luck to you David, and Marty and Jodi as well.

  • m. allie October 12, 2009 (9:21 am)

WOW! Mornings aren’t the same any more. My boys and I listened to Marty and Jody every morning while getting ready for school. By the time I dropped them off the 7:20 funny was usually on. My kids and I loved your show…don’t think there can be another like it. I’m still stunned by this and don’t know what station to listen to as 103.7 was my permanent for the last 14 years. I keep surfing thru the stations to find nothing. CANNOT comprehend this decision. I’ll keep looking for your next gig. Thanks for the good times. All the best to you both.

  • Thomas October 13, 2009 (11:07 am)

Yup. This move will truly mark the end for The Mountain. I’ve even given the new morning show a try for a week now and it sucks. No character. No chemistry like that of Marty and Jodi. It was as boring as listening to AM news radio. KMTT will definitely lose most of their listeners and lots of advertisers. Both Marty and Jodi had great radio ads. All of my friends are now switching over to Star until we find something better for our drive into work. I won’t even bother with KMTT for the drive home anymore either.

  • Kelly October 14, 2009 (8:18 am)

Sorta like when KXRX went “Young country”.
I have to ask, WTF were you thinking??

  • Rick October 14, 2009 (9:04 am)

Can’t believe they would replace them with such a boring, low key, low energy person. Will be finding a new station to replace what was my standard morning radio…bummer. Good luck Mary and Jodi, will be looking to find your new home on the airwaves of the Internet.

  • Romayne October 14, 2009 (10:34 am)

Wow…I’ve been out of town for a couple of weeks and I’m totally blown away…What a stupid move! I guess thats par for the course for a clear channel corporate toadie. Marty and Jodi will certainly land on their feet…they are way too good not to…Please keep us posted as to where and when. Probably XM or Sirius where they can really show their stuff!

  • Marsha October 14, 2009 (11:07 pm)

It is hard to explain the void present with the absence of Marty and Jodi in my morning routine. Marty’s enthusism was contagious and energizing. I never got the impression that he would have rather been somewhere else while doing the show. I wish them both the best and am selfishly lamenting my loss.

  • jennie October 15, 2009 (7:48 am)

Wow…I too finally found a way to figure out what happened to my favorite duo in the morning! This is unbelievable!!! MAJOR FAIL, KMTT!!! I seriously hope the station management reads all of these posts and regrets their decision! Maybe they will as listenership and ratings decline! Changing my tuner now, as we speak…. Marty/Jodi, I will find you!

  • Sara October 15, 2009 (9:36 pm)

Absolutely unbelievable! I’ve been in shock since Marty was fired. I do not listen to KMTT any more – it’s just drivel now; maybe a good time to get satellite radio – Marty was the only thing keeping me engaged with regular radio. My entire family has been hooked on Marty and the 20 funnies for years now – how can David Benson be so far off the mark???? You’ve lost a lot of devoted listeners.

  • Peter October 15, 2009 (10:20 pm)

Now I’m mad that I bought two CD’s of Live from the Mountain Music Lounge. If I had know that they got rid of Marty and Jodi I would never had supported the Mountain. I have had my radio tuned to 103.7 since the start, guess I need to find a new station.

Everyone needs a Jodi laugh in the am

  • Kimberley October 16, 2009 (9:18 pm)

Marty, Jodi, I miss you!!!!!!!!!! Every morning I still go into shock when I turn on the radio, go to KMTT and neither of your delightful voices are there to great me. The void left by your absence is tangible. Your on-air chemistry was worth its weight in gold; you were hilariously funny, and entertaining. Yours was not only the coolist radio show in the Seattle area, it was a unique, early-morning variety show!
    Why, Entercom? Why?!
Anywho, it would be loverly to learn of the resurrection of the Marty Riemer and Jodi Brothers show – whenever and wherever that might be. Do keep me, and all of your loyal fans posted.
    Thanks, Marty! Thanks, Jodi!

    Kimberley

  • kim October 17, 2009 (10:54 am)

I am so upset with the ending of the morning show, Marty and Jodi, you were the best am dj’s. I for one am changing stations……so sad, kim

oh yes and nothing on the 103.7 website,,,,how lame

  • mangetout October 17, 2009 (12:09 pm)

Marty and Jodi were absolutely the only reason I turned to 103.7, and only in the mornings. KMTT has turned into another very boring, middle of the road, old fart radio station. The playlist got worse over the past 18 months – firing these two just doomed the station to radio leftovers in Seattle.

  • Pam October 19, 2009 (10:58 am)

So NOW who do we listen to? This is just crap that we have to as listeners do the search, search, search for a decent radio station (that doesn’t insult the intelligence); then to finally find a station that is smart and savvy, and then to lose over the years, Gary Crow, Robin and Maynard, Crow and West, Fisher and West, the brothers John, and now Riemer and Jody. Pure crap. It’s a tall order to be a loyal Seattle listener, when it’s a crap shoot from one day to the next as to who’s gonna get the boot. KMTT listen up: you have alot of work ahead of you if you think that you can regain this ex-listeners ear. To get respect you need to earn it. You had mine.
Miss you RandM, Mikie, and RandJ.

    Pam

  • Laura October 19, 2009 (1:06 pm)

I am truly dissapointed that Marty and Robin are gone. I truly enjoyed their banter and candor. KMTT what were you thinking?? It doesn’t appear that the majority of your listeners agree with this decision. Do we not matter to you? I request you re-think this decision, apologize to Marty and Robin and to all of your listeners for this extremely poor business decision and bring the dynamic duo back. Until then my radio dial has changed.

  • Denice October 19, 2009 (1:12 pm)

I am lost in the morning without you Marty!

  • Erica October 19, 2009 (2:42 pm)

I dont even listen to the mountain anymore!

  • kate October 20, 2009 (7:31 am)

amen to all of the above. bad form to fire our friends at all, but to make no announcement whatsoever is unbelievably uncaring and rude. mngmt at kmtt sucks and they should be canned. how will i find marty and jodi again? cuz i sure as hell wont be listening to the mountain

  • TW @ The BIG B October 20, 2009 (11:09 am)

I just cannot believe that Marty & Jodi were ‘fired’ at the end of their show. Upper management is truly, amazingly wrong on this one. M & J had a HUGE following in the Northwest. I have met and talked with Marty on many ocassions and he is a great guy and very funny..Where will we find Marty now?? Not sure who the new morning guy is but he SUCKS. I would love to hear the real reason that management let them both go.. All the best you Marty & Jodi..Hopefully I will run into you in West Seattle(my ole stompin’ grounds)in the near future. ROCK ON, YOU TWO !!! L8R

  • kristi October 22, 2009 (11:11 pm)

Was out of town and when I returned I noticed on my way to work that there were no 7:20 funnies…what the heck…was I too late? No…so I tried again at 5:20…still no funnies. Finally checked online to learn the bad news. I will miss the show. Best of luck to Marty and Jodi both. I enjoyed the interviews — very intelligent and thought provoking as well as humorous.

  • Kathleen Emmett October 24, 2009 (11:04 am)

So I’m not willing to miss you for long. Is there a new station? I really miss you guys, always made my day start with a smile. The mountain has flatened since your departure, I can barely listen to it. I can can get cd’s of the music, but when will you be on the air again? Kathleen

  • Jill October 25, 2009 (7:40 pm)

I have been away from the area for a couple of weeks. Last week I thought someone was filling in for Marty and Jodi. Tonight I find out they were fired a month ago! I have been listening since day 1. The only time I will listen now, is when John Fisher is on. When he is gone, so am I. Let us know where you end up, Marty! You are missed!

  • Jill October 25, 2009 (7:47 pm)

OOPS! Amendment to my first post! I was so angry my fingers got ahead of me! I meant to say, I will only listen when John Fisher is ON, and when he is gone, so am I!

  • LBarr October 27, 2009 (7:37 am)

I came back from a trip at the beginning of October and was surprised to see that Marty and Jodi weren’t there…thought that maybe they each were on vacation…until 2 weeks went by and no word of them. I thought that I had finally found a solid station w/ the Mountain. Guess I’m back on the hunt again. Marty’s commonsensical approach and Jodi’s lively banter were a great way to start the day! Now there’s too much damn classic rock. I miss you Marty and Jodi!

  • Sue October 27, 2009 (3:57 pm)

so why was the Fisher and West show booted?

  • Sherri October 29, 2009 (10:27 am)

(likewise, I’ve been traveling and thought M&J were on vacation. I’m shocked and outraged that they were fired, and bored to paralysis by the substitutes. To mis-quote Julia Roberts, “BAD decision, bad, bad, bad decision”. John Fisher is the only tenuous string holding me to the afternoons at the Mountain, otherwise, I’m outie.

  • Sancho October 29, 2009 (3:21 pm)

The Mountain has turned for the worse. Perhaps it is because they insist on playing the negative song ‘Santeria by Sublime’. This song diserved to die, with it’s heron junkie creator, but KMTT couldn’t help but to continue in insulting the Hispanic community.

Maybe there is bad Ju Ju associated with ridiculing Santeria. Marty and Jodi sure found out the hard way.

103.7 The Mountain is doomed as well. John Fisher teeth must be bothering him, because you can hear the gross sound of his tongue playing with tooth decay or something.

The moral of this story; don’t insult the Sancho/Sanchez family, and certainly don’t make jokes about Santeria.

  • Sancho October 29, 2009 (3:34 pm)

OOPs ammend DOWN WITH ‘SANTERIA BY SUBLIME’

The Mountain started to decay, when Mike West and John Fisher had to interview Hugo Chavista nut job Cindy Sheehan. Fisher really thought he could rule the airwaves, with his Sheehan brand of politics. The end result: Mike West/gone.

    Also gone:

Haley Jones, Amanda Thorne, Drew, Brian, and now Marty and Jodi. There is bad Ju Ju at The Mountain, and I don’t think the sound of Fisher’s tongue, heard pressed against his possible tooth decay is helping.

I started listening to The Mountain on the first day the station went on the air. With all the negative programming attacking the Sanchez/Sancho family, I must sadly say, it is time for The Mountain to just fade away. Adios Cabrones!

  • Guy October 30, 2009 (9:54 am)

Having been a Mountain listener since it’s inception, it came as quite a shock to hear they fired Marty and Jodi. I have just removed myself from the KMTT mailing list and will have to be looking for a new station to plug into my radio preset #1. Marty and Jodi were a breath of fresh air and intellect on the air, and it’s a total mystery to me why they would let these two go. Shame on KMTT!! I suppose they’ll dump John Fisher next, and lose the rest of their listeners.

  • ActualFactual October 30, 2009 (9:21 pm)

I listed to the new team one day this week and they were both such douche bags I had to turn it off. Seriously, not a speck of talent.

Can’t wait to follow Jodi and Marty to wherever they land…

  • Brian October 31, 2009 (7:32 am)

I’ve been listening to 103.7 since they began. While I immediately switch to another station if commercials are on or a disk jockey is talking, I would listen to Marty/Jodi and John Fisher. The new morning dj’s are boring and monotone. Hope they don’t fire John Fisher!!! If the music continues the downslide, I won’t be listening to 103.7 at all! They should fire the management.

  • rodd walker October 31, 2009 (6:35 pm)

i miss marty and jodi- the new dj and sidekick in the am are as dopey (although i’m sure their nice people) as sam and scott on kcms. I actually listen to other stations most of the time now in the am. I think the program director blew this one. Marty and Jodi — i miss you! Rodd

  • Ann H. November 2, 2009 (6:12 am)

Clumsy and slow in the mornings…I need Marty and Jodi to get me going. I actually paid attention to the dialog. I’ve been wondering where they were, thinking maybe Marty was on vacation in Germany, but when he and Jodi weren’t on this morning, I knew it had been too long. I like John, so I’ll listen to him, but I’m done with the Mountain of BS otherwise. Done. This is a huge managerial mistake, and I hope it costs Entacom lots of money. I’ll pre-set to KINK in Portland, and start streaming elsewhere. Good luck, Marty and Jodi, I loved your show. I’ll miss you.

  • Steve November 2, 2009 (9:20 am)

And management wanted to make a change? I’ve tried listening to the “new” morning show, but at best, it grates. There’s no point listening. I’m gone. I’ll be looking to see where Marty lands.

  • Jeff November 2, 2009 (1:38 pm)

I simply cannot believe how dense Entercom is in regards to the importance of the “on air personality as entertainment’ concept in radio today.
I believe that radio commerce is driven by loyal listeners and if this site is a representation of that concept, there will be many KMTT loyal listeners …following Marty and Jodi to their next gig.
I know I will…KMTT I’m done with you and I think you will be done is Seattle soon.
Best wishers and congrats to Marty and Jodi on the “graduation”. Onward and upward!!!

  • Art Sanchez November 3, 2009 (7:12 am)

Seattle Police Officer Timothy Brenton, was assassinated, by Seattle gun violence on October 31, 2009. Days before Seattle radio station KMTT 103.7 The Mountain was proudly airing, the gun violence promoting track ‘Santeria by Sublime’, during their A -Z play list celebration.

Something is terribly wrong at KMTT, which is evident by the constant firing of hosts, yet the station management’s willingness to blatantly stereotype Hispanics with the surname Sancho, which means the father of Sanchez, continues to date. The poor judgment of KMTT, reminds us of the $610 million dollar lawsuit filed by the National Mexican-American Anti-Defamation Committee (NMAADC), for “malicious defamation” of their ethnicity, due to the airing of TV commercials that featured the Frito Bandito.

Recently fired hosts Marty Riemer and Jodi Brothers, often bragged about their liberal views, but not once objected to playing the gun violent track ‘Santeria’. The question for Marty and Jodi, is why didn’t they object, and who at KMTT The Mountain is responsible for suggesting that Sanchez male children called ‘Sanchito’, should live in fear, and hiding, with the threat of being shot by Sublime’s song lyrics “daddy’s got a new .45”?

    Art Sanchez

Please note that the management of KMTT 103.7 The Mountain, has not responded to emails, urging the station to drop ‘Santeria by Sublime’

Cc. Seattle Police; Tribute For Officer Timothy Brenton

  • Chuck November 3, 2009 (7:59 am)

Marty come back! KMTT is gone as far as I’m concerned. Until Marty and Jodi land somewhere else, I recommend WXRT (http://www.93xrt.com/). They have DJs who have been there 20+ years as this is a station that knows the importance of a DJ connecting to the listeners

  • Mike November 3, 2009 (11:46 am)

Marty has been replaced by the idiot of all idiots.
    What a lame decsion.
Why is it KMTT keeps having to change for the worst.
AM I NOT YOUR TARGET audience 50 year old professional?
Apparently not, new guy is awful.

  • Lynn Jordan November 3, 2009 (2:28 pm)

There isn’t anything I can say that hasn’t already been said. I am just very sad that Marty and Jodi are gone. What a loss. They had a morning show that made it almost worth going to work for – or at least they made the trip to work more pleasant. I hope they land somewhere else locally and that I find them! Love them both.

  • Norm November 3, 2009 (6:39 pm)

I loved Marty! However, the morning show had really gone down hill with Jodi. Does this woman actually think she is funny? I stopped listening to the Mountain in the morning where it was just talk and stupid, obvious remarks. I may start listening in the mornings again.

  • Karen November 3, 2009 (6:58 pm)

I’ve been wondering for weeks when Marty and Jodi would return from a long vacation. Their replacements are deplorable, boring and the dude is arrogant. Just this morning he was telling the chick to get “Shawn” on the phone and find out why she’s late every day. “Is she in the shower?” What a jerk. I’m removing the Mountain (now the Mole Hill) from my preset stations. It’s sad. I can tell that Shawn and John Fisher really miss the duo. And they were such a cool group of dj’s. They all did the Mountain to Sound relay. Are the new goof balls going to swim bike and run?? KMTT Management – you really screwed up!!

  • laura November 3, 2009 (7:25 pm)

The new DJ in the morning is a bore. KMTT used to be a good station, and now…not so much.

CDs all the way to work now. Or PBS, sure won’t be the Mountain.

  • Alana November 3, 2009 (9:03 pm)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I hate the new guy. Come on KMTT! Marty was the only thing you guys had going for yourselves. So you save some money, you will definitely lose a lot of listeners. Booooo!

  • Audrey November 4, 2009 (9:06 am)

My friend turned me on to the Mountain about 2years ago. Marty and Jodi were what kept me listening. Not any more! I was so disappointed when i realized the Mountain is like alot of the rest of the radio stations (that i won’t listen too)absolutely no personality. I’m sad to see the mountain sold out. Marty and Jodi will be truely missed. good by Mountain station!

  • Jeanne November 4, 2009 (3:26 pm)

Have they changed the music also? I understand they had the A-Z thing going but now it seems they are playing lots more oldies…

Maybe it’s just me, but I think even John sounds different now too.

  • Karla November 4, 2009 (6:51 pm)

Terrible. Terrile they got rid of the best morning show Seattle has. Terrible that they brought in a monotone duo that is not funny. Terrible that I won’t have a radio station to listen to anymore. I’m getting my CD’s out that MARTY marketed on his show and will be imaging him playing them for me on my long commute to work. I think I’ll boycott the sponsors as well. that should have an impact. KMTT is no longer the station I can brag about. I wish Shawn Stewart and John Fisher the best of luck. You all were an asset to the station. Sorry it will all go down hill from here.

  • Travis November 6, 2009 (9:29 am)

I can’t find any logical reason why this is a good move. Quite simply Marty and Jody’s morning show was the single best part of the Mountain, which has become more and more stagnant musically and now this. I think a change is in order but it shouldn’t start with the thing that’s working the best. Oh well, time to find a new station.

  • Kathy November 7, 2009 (6:04 pm)

I could not believe it when I finally figured out that Marty and Jodi were gone and the two incredibly boring people on the mountain in the morning are actually permanent dj’s. I agree with previous posts that this is the beginning of the end of that station and am heartened to see so many people compelled to move on now that this incredibly stupid choice has been made. As one of many who became a listener of kmtt when it first began, I felt sad when Mike West left, but this is too much. No reason to listen anymore. My best to Marty and Jodi!

  • Nancy C. November 8, 2009 (11:21 am)

I’m another one who is kinda slow about figuring out what is going on. I thought I had missed an announcement about Marty ond Jodi being on vacation or something, since I can’t tune in every day. Google answered my question.
I started listening to the Mountain sometime around 1990 and I have been a loyal listener for all these years. I almost left when Fisher and West vanished, but at least John Fisher was still present in the afternoons. Sorry John, but this is the last straw. It’s time for me to move on.

  • Liza November 8, 2009 (8:28 pm)

I used to think The Mountain was so fortunate to have someone like Marty, who is so creative and driven. He really provided something different and his show just kept getting better. He and Jody really worked well together. I wish I knew the inside story so it would make sense. Can you believe it, no more :20 funny? I wonder how much will be dropped because Marty held it. I don’t mean to knock anyone, but I cannot listen to the new news girl in the morning, her voice just hurts my head. I am grateful for my new ipod more than ever now. ciao KMTT

  • Scott November 10, 2009 (12:57 pm)

What a huge colossal mistake. LOVED Marty and Jodi. Great chemistry, and a joy to listen to. Have not touched my dial for years until now. This morning the new guy was going off on how his wife will not “shut up” after she drinks her Starbucks. As I am listening to this ridiculously awkward comment and I cannot help but think – I know someone else that should shut up.

    I am mad as hell!

    The Mountain is dead.

  • Jeff November 10, 2009 (3:33 pm)

I NEVER post comments to the web, but on this occassion I simply MUST!!! KMTT, you really are blowing it here as all have said. I do agree that the mountain is clearly not the same and is likely on it’s way OUT THE DOOR, perhaps the sooner the better.

Marty/Jody. Please find a station in Seattle.

  • Ann-Marie Pennington November 10, 2009 (7:01 pm)

Having moved from the land of sense ( England) to the land of nonsense, I go away for a weeks vacation and I come back to the only station I can rely on to get me through the trauma of driving on the 405 in the mornings – changing its lineup for a couple who definetly need a personality upgrade!. The Mountains loss and I hope in the future Marty and Jodi’s gain!

  • Cheryl November 10, 2009 (11:42 pm)

There is stupid and then there is STUPID!!!!! I feel like I lost my best friend. Goodbye Marty and Jody. And good riddance KMTT. If I want a snooze fest in the AM I can sleep in. When I tuned in & heard the new duo, I thought I was tuned into one of the community college stations. Unbelievable.

  • Kay November 10, 2009 (11:47 pm)

I have been gone for weeks and thought Marty was on vacation. I finally found out he was fired. Are you freakin’ kidding me? He was the only reason I started listening to THe Mountain! I loved listening to the station. It was what got me through the a.m. on the way to work. I loved starting my day by listening and I really miss it! What is management thinking by boring us in the a.m. with the new programming???? I don’t get it. Why mess with a program that is working? Idiotic move!

  • Michael November 11, 2009 (8:13 am)

So I’m a little slow to jump on the band wagon, but I’m jumping on this one…. I was so disappointed when I finally figured it out, that Marty and Jodi had been fired. You guys were great. I loved listening to you in the morning. I know we are all going to miss you both and we can’t wait to hear you back on the air again. We just pray it’s here in Seattle. I know, I should start my own radio station… I could hire 2 of the best! They even got rid of the 7:20 funny!?!?… but what would it be without Marty & Jodi’s laugh track anyways? God bless you both!

  • Donna November 11, 2009 (1:30 pm)

I could not believe that I heard the new morning dj talking about telling his wife to shut up. Not a good sign. (And by the way, his bio on the website is filled with typos.) Marty and Jodi were intelligent, interesting, funny, and sometimes irreverent, but they were never rude or just lame. I usually switch between NPR and KMTT most mornings (to avoid listening to Tom Shane commercials)…KMTT is now out (sorry John). I’ve never posted on these sites before, but I can’t keep my disappointment to myself. How long before the ratings show the sharp plunge in listeners?

  • Leslie November 11, 2009 (2:46 pm)

The new guy in the morning is horrible. Does KMTT not realize that their listeners are intelligent and don’t want to listen to a doorknob like him? Bad, bad decision.

  • JJ November 12, 2009 (1:59 pm)

First Mike West and now Marty. KMTT is gone as far as I’m concerned.

  • lynn webb November 12, 2009 (6:09 pm)

I never write in either …I was trying to give the new guy on the mountain a chance but there’s nothing THERE…what a DUD….is the station trying to save money ??? I personally am done listening and I’ve been a listener since day one….unless Marty and Jody stole from the station what the heck are they thinking ????what a way to shoot holes in your program ….I am going to switch also …sorry kmtt but what the HECK??? lwebb

  • Little Ann November 13, 2009 (10:22 am)

Sorry to see Marty go but really could not stand listening to Jodi (rudeness is not funny!). I know quite a few peope who had stopped listening because of her. The new morning guy is a bit of a dud but I’m enjoying a little different mix of music. Will watch for Marty to surface elsewhere.

  • joe November 13, 2009 (5:16 pm)

Okay, so the unwelcome transition to the post Marty/Jody era has been hard but now KMTT has decided to go for the double kick in the junk. No, slightly tweaking the stations play-list wasn’t adequate, now they seem to be jumping formats, Journeys ‘Don’t stop Believing’ twice in one day, really???? Did KMTT just have a head on collision with Jack FM. I tried to be reasonable and give your “new direction” a shot but it appears to be a giant FAIL.

  • lostinseattle November 14, 2009 (7:30 am)

I also never post comments online. But I have to add my voice to those others who are disappointed and saddened to learn of Marty and Jodi’s firing. What attracted me first to the Mtn after arriving from Germany and California was the West/Fischer and Marty/Jodi shows. I thought after West left and Fischer moved to afternoons, that it was not as good, but I continued to listen for the music and I liked the station in general. I listened on my commute to the Mtn and NPR, switching during annoying commericals (especially Tom Shane’s syrupy stories and nasal tone voice). I found Jodi’s rendition of the news amusing and funny. I agree with the others that Marty and Jodi’s show was refreshingly intelligent, funny, irreverent and hit the right tone with Pacific Northwest listeners. It’s a quality which I have not found elsewhere. It was obvious they cared alot about the local community, something that endears them to their faithful listners. It takes a long time to cultivate a devoted audience and by the number of posts here (and probably of the silent majority) that Marty and Jodi achieved what the Mtn or any radio should aspire to which is branding, loyalty and satisfied customers. I, too, listen less often to the Mtn now. I’ve tried it, but don’t like it. At least NPR is still there, but I am wandering in the radio wilderness looking for something that I cannot find…

  • shrowaja November 14, 2009 (5:09 pm)

Marty & Jodi are putting on an independent Funny Festival at the Paramount in January.

  • shrowaja November 14, 2009 (5:15 pm)

I am a complete idiot. This is exactly why I should never try posting comments on line. I even tried to edit it and failed. sigh. sorry.

Here is the actual link to Paramount tickets for funny festival.

Every morning the drive to school to drop off my daughter was brightened with the shenanigans (that’s right) of Marty and Jodi. They gave me hundreds of smirks, chuckles, and indeed, laughs. Each morning I’m irritated anew at not finding them in my car. KMTT, you suck.

  • A Steffens November 16, 2009 (2:18 pm)

It’s been a while now since the fateful event. I stopped listening to KMTT, subscribe to XM now, and often wander the “free” dial in search of some intelligent radio station that would pick up Marty and Jodi where they left off. If you ever frequent this blog, please let us know if they land somewhere within radio tuning range of Seattle.

A piece of my day is missing. It can not be easily replaced. For me it was the combination of Marty and Jodi reparte along with the music choices and humor that often made me turn the show on in my classroom after leaving my car. I feel ripped of I hope you both find a local outlet/forum for your talents.I have already stopped listening it just isn’t the same.

I’ve been out of the loop for a bit between my busy schedule and vacations. I was wondering lately about the direction the station was going with it’s redundancy, and now our beloved Marty is gone! I remember when the change to the morning show came with Marty and Jodi and I loved listening to them in the mornings. Such a great way to start the day. (I loved him in the afternoon, too! The 5:20 Funny On the way home!) It will never be the same. I’ve been a loyal listener to KMTT since it’s inception and got many new listeners to join in on a great radio station. KMTT, I think you may have lost that title now. I’m shopping for a new station to listen to and hopefully Marty Riemer will show up somewhere soon with his great personality. If there was an award show for DJ’s – Marty would win hands down!

I must echo nearly all the comments previously stated. I miss Marty & Jodi and cannot understand the decision on the part of KMTT. I understand change is necessary, but to arguably the biggest attraction of your station? I have tried to give the new morning show a chance to be fair. I can’t. He bugs me with his arrogance and insulting nature. He’s obnoxious and openly ignorant. If I want a lesson on how to pronounce the names of local towns or history of past events in our area, I can go to the library. Yet he can commit an entire show(s) to it. KMTT has lost my ears as well – sorry John (ok, I’ll still sneak a listen to you from time to time).

I too was very disappointed that Marty was fired – no strong attachment to Jodi yet. While a business certainly has the right to hire and fire as they see fit, I honestly can’t understand why Marty was fired and this new guy brought in. I’ve tried to give him time to warm up and develop his show a bit but he is just offensive – I can’t stand to listen to him. Even his producer, Kyara, seems to dislike him. I’ve started switching stations while I get ready for work in the morning and frankly, leave it elsewhere for most of the day.

I miss Marty & Jodi. They worked well together and they were entertaining. This new Shaun dud is an ignorant jerk and insults the audience of Seattle everyday. KMTT WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. We are an intelligent audience and this dolt is a no talent loser. Go back to your 1991 format on 1037 KBRD slow music no djs no fun and no listeners.

  • Renee November 27, 2009 (11:50 pm)

I usually don’t comment on these things, but I must say that KMTT really made a poor decision on this one. Even my 10 year old agrees. The new format is terrible. I don’t want to listen to someone who has no idea what Seattle is about, and I don’t think he will ever figure it out. The playlist is awful too. Are they letting the “out of towner DJ” pick that too? Welcome back to the 80’s. I’ll be leaving my dial on NPR from now on.

  • Robert November 29, 2009 (4:56 am)

Hey the Marty Riemer Jodi Brothers firing is seriously about money $$$$$. C’mon 1037 hasn’t paid a dj new or old to play the hits beyond 7:00 pm since 2007. How weak is that. Music is about nighttime. That as they say is the last act of a dieing radio station. As the decapitated one armed man once said. ‘The hardest part was waving goodbye”.

I am an avid KUOW listener, but became a fan of Marty and Jodi because my twenty-three year old would switch them on in the car each morning – what a riot, these two have such chemistry and wit. We LOVE them. When they mysteriously disappeared from the air I was sure they’d been seduced away to a larger market. But FIRED? Are you kidding?? The new kids on air are – sorry – cannot compare to the warm and witty banter Jodi and Marty created together. And these newbies mispronounce everything, they’re obviously NOT from here. And the woman tries to be sarcastically cute, but just comes off mean. Jodi did not come off mean, she came off warmly irreverent. BRING BACK MARTY AND JODI, fools. Marty and Jodi’s show was refreshingly intelligent, funny, and hit the right tone with Pacific Northwest listeners because they are Pacific Northwest voices. I hope another station is smart enough to pick them up.

I took a short break from the KMTT and see what happens? I tried to listen to the immature and frankly boring new person in the morning and it just lacked any kind of polish. You know something is wrong when you turn to KZOK’s Bob Spike and Joe to fill the intelligence gap. I mean, I love those guys too, but I used to swap back and forth between them and Marty. Now, I stay on KZOK. Too bad. Marty was the reason for the Music Lounge. I hope that Carter Subaru will cut the funding. Am I bitter…no. I just think it would be appropriate. Typical use them and toss them attitude.

I wonder when KMTT will realize what a huge mistake they made and offer Marty and Jodi their jobs back… hopefully with back pay. Between reading all of the comments on the WS Blog and the Seattle Times, KMTT has lost many fans. Seems like a no brainer to me what they need to do but then again we are questioning if they even have a brain at KMTT!!!
    .
I sure hope to hear Marty and Jodi on the air again soon! So many of us obviously miss you! Best of luck to you two!

  • DocJenn December 2, 2009 (11:55 pm)

So so so disappointed. Marty and Jodi were a natural pairing. I switched from my once favorite radio station (KISS) to the Mountain BECAUSE OF the Marty/Jodi dynamic duo. Deeply disappointed and no longer listening or supporting 103.7. The new 103.7 DJ is abysmal…worse than a slow news day on NPR. Switching back to my iTunes…at least I know I am the only one who can change my morning entertainment. Shame on you KMTT. You’ve alienated a loyal listener base. I, for one, am no longer a fan and will make sure others know why.

  • Diane Shirley December 4, 2009 (12:33 pm)

Count me in as another FORMER KMTT listener. It has gotten boring and stale, and Jodi and Marty were the last two things about KMTT that actually kept is fresh and made one want to listen. I have taken it off my go to dial.

Bad decisions! What next……..easy listening format?

  • Gary Benham December 17, 2009 (12:20 pm)

It’s now the “Moron in the Morning Show”!!! That Shaun dude is pompous, ignorant, too full of himself, and on, and on. I’m trying to get by with PBS on the way in to work in the morning, not a good change but getting some perspective on world events.

Sorry, comment time is over.
