Topic: Check licensing!
in forum West Seattle SchoolsSavinoMemberFor parents with day care and/or pre-school aged children. Always check this link to make sure your childcare center is licensed. https://apps.del.wa.gov/check/CheckSearch.aspx
We recently found out a large day care center in West Seattle where our son went is not licensed and is being shut down by the Department of Early Learning, even though they are continuing to operate. In-home providers will be listed by the name of the home owner usually.

February 27, 2011 at 3:27 am #718408In reply to: Cost of housecleaning
SueParticipantThis has been helpful, as I’ve wondered what it cost as well (generally).
There’s actually a DealPop special today for a green housecleaning service in Georgetown, $80 for $160 worth of cleaning (looks like that’s 4 hours) if anybody’s interested: https://www.dealpop.com/r/DFD43DD5
Only 35 left as of 7:15pm on 2/26. Their website (seattlegreencleaner.com) goes into a lot of detail about pricing, estimates, etc. which may help people in general with pricing, not just this company.
February 25, 2011 at 4:26 pm #598088SueParticipant$25 for $55 worth of waxing services at Envy on Alki. Special started today (2/25) and looks to be running for several days. Voucher can also be used immediately (unlike usual when they make you wait until the day after you buy it), but reservation is required.

redblackParticipantif you’re using it for project management, you obviously want a fast wireless ethernet card, a killer video card, lots of (whatever passes for) RAM (these days), a fast USB hub, and a fast processor. i’d look for a system built around those things and pay less attention to peripherals like CD’s and audio.
there was a thread about this not too long ago, and ken seems to be WSB’s best forum resource – or at least the most prolific poster – for hardware-related questions:

And I don’t want to condone a contention that the Times was unethical … they just made a different decision … and I wanted to explain ours, for better/worse, oldschool as it seems. It would have been easy to say “OK, well, it’s out, so never mind why we didn’t publish it sooner, we’ll just go with it too, now that somebody else has” but that just wasn’t right, for us.

February 14, 2011 at 3:31 pm #716852In reply to: RANT: Seattle City Light Rate Hike
redblackParticipantthis topic came up 3 months ago here in the forums:
https://westseattleblog.com/forum/topic/city-light-electric-rates#post-107345
someone name firedup pointed to a seattle times editorial piece about SCL, and then went on to bend the numbers into a rant about rate hikes.
in the second post in the thread, i posted a DOE link that compares the states’ respective electricity costs, and farther down the thread there’s specific info about how larger commercial ratepayers enjoy very competitive rates in seattle.
it appears the stats have changed since i posted that DOE link the first time, however; idaho now has the lowest residential rates in the country at ¢8.02/kWh; washington is next at ¢8.26/kWh.
note that the eastern seaboard pays about double what SCL charges for residential power.
and at ¢4.02/kWh, washington still has the cheapest industrial power in america.
February 14, 2011 at 2:55 pm #597944SueParticipantToday’s deal on DealPop is $15 for $30 worth of food at Phoenecia. Looks like it’s good for several days from today (2/14).

Note: good only Sunday through Thursday, and expires May 15.
February 12, 2011 at 6:00 pm #717032In reply to: Computer repair – where to go?
KenParticipantDoes the error message contain the phrase:
Click ok to hibernate and reinstall the battery
?
And the OS is vista or win7?
If so, related urls are:
http://sarabannerman.blogspot.com/2007/04/sony-laptop-battery-mal-ware.html
Existing sony batteries may produce this message if the battery firmware, ac adapter or motherboard are bad. More commonly, third party replacement batteries (non sony) are detected by a sony marketing utility designed to detect non sony batteries. Sony batteries are 3 to 5 times the price of 3rd party batteries and are available (sometimes) at https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/index.jsp
Most of them are out of stock but can be ordered from the professional site (the site for those depot repair sites that pay thousands of dollars to Sony for their secret shop manuals)if you have a paid up account. (pretty rare as far as I can tell)
https://www.servicesplus.sel.sony.com/default.aspx
Sony batteries for laptops within the first two years are often the same price as a new notebook of another brand 300 to 400 dollars.
Third party Chinese batteries are available on Amazon, often using the picture and part numbers of the original Sony battery. These usually include a firmware hack file that needs to be run as a bios update. I have returned all those I have recieved in the past since the documentation changlish has some alarming and demented warnings in it.
Here is an excerpt:
3 , If you install the CD driver as instructed ,the laptop wonot boot itself after closing automaticlly ,it may not be compatiable your laptop .This ratio is very small .We feel pity that our battery can not be 100% compatiable with all modes at present because of so many laptop models. Please repair your laptop in the professional refreshing motherboard BIOS company to make your laptop work again. If you can not find the suitable repairing company, please concact your supplier ,we will try our best to restore it.Usually,it can be finished within one day as long as your hard driver is same state .
4, The CD driver program wonot destroy any laptop hardware device, but there will be the danger that may not succeed in installing ,please choose carefully before installing!!
5,If your computer damaged due to this driver,we will not undertake any responsibility!
