For parents with day care and/or pre-school aged children. Always check this link to make sure your childcare center is licensed. https://apps.del.wa.gov/check/CheckSearch.aspx

We recently found out a large day care center in West Seattle where our son went is not licensed and is being shut down by the Department of Early Learning, even though they are continuing to operate. In-home providers will be listed by the name of the home owner usually.

Parents and guardians should always check out the licensing of any place that their children will be staying for any length of time.

Good advice, but please don’t depend solely on this resource. Many places are bad for kids and still have no findings. Other places may have had investigations but are providing excellent services to children and families. Childcare.org goes way beyond what you can get via the link above.

flowerpetal- totally agree. They show findings on that site, but not the details. Dept. of Early Learning is awesome though, and if you call the up, they will tell you all the details of the findings.

Childcare.org gets info from DEL, so it’s all coming from the same place. Also, childcare.org charges for their service.

You are absolutely right, it does cost; but well worth it I believe. You will get more information from CCR than what DEL knows. Licensors only get to centers and homes on a very infrequent basis; if there is no reason other than renewing the license.

For example. A licensor won’t be able to tell you what curriculum the program is using. Nor will they know if a center serves kosher or halal. And licensors have no information on whether a program is welcoming to same-sex parented families.

I love the improvements that DEL has made. It is up to us to discover “the rest of the story” about a center or home. For this, CCR is a good resource for the $40 it costs.

    Hi Savino

Would you be willing to share the name of the program closing-thinking I might be able to get some good deals on equipment?
