6:35 AM: As predicted, the wind has kicked up. No incidents reported so far. One transit alert:
Transit Alert – Route 116 to downtown Seattle due to leave the Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal at 7:30 AM will not operate this morning.
— King County Metro🚌 (@kcmetrobus) November 13, 2017
Please let us know about any weather/traffic trouble you see (including power outages), when you can do so safely – text/call 206-293-6302. Thank you.
7 AM: Still no incidents/outages – one person reports a Comcast outage in Belvidere, no way to know if it’s weather-related but they want to remind you to report cable outages too so repair crews will be dispatched quicker. Meantime, the wind advisory is in effect through 7 tonight.
8:05 AM: At least where we are, the wind has quieted somewhat, for now. Still no local incidents reported.
8:23 AM: This is apparently just a break in the wind – the NWS has upped the alert to a High Wind Warning, with possible gusts to 60 mph, in effect through 9 tonight.
9:52 AM: Crash reported, three vehicles, with at least one person hurt, on NB Highway 99 at Yesler.
ORIGINAL REPORT, 12:47 AM: Two closures happening right now:

WEST SEATTLE BRIDGE: The Fauntleroy Expressway end of the bridge is closed for jersey-barrier work. If you are headed westbound, you’ll have to exit on Admiral Way. If you are headed eastbound, you will have to get on the bridge via Avalon, Admiral, Harbor, or Delridge. This closure is expected to be over by 7 am.
And on Highway 99:

BATTERY STREET TUNNEL: The tunnel is closed both ways overnight because of paving work happening above it. So if you are headed northbound on 99, you’ll have to exit on Western; if you’re headed southbound, you’ll have to exit at Denny. This closure is expected to end by 5 am.
5:10 AM UPDATE: The city’s webcam shows that the West Seattle Bridge is open again.

6:56 AM: Good morning. No incidents reported in/from West Seattle so far.
VETERANS DAY CHANGES: No school; no King County Water Taxi. Metro is on a “reduced weekday” schedule but most routes are not affected. (Also note, today is NOT a free-parking day in pay-station neighborhoods.)
CLOSURES TONIGHT: If you’ll be out late tonight/early tomorrow, you need to know about two closures starting just before midnight – the Fauntleroy Expressway end of the West Seattle Bridge (scheduled to end by 7 am), and the Battery Street Tunnel (scheduled to end by 5 am).
8:57 AM: Another incident-free commute. Any time you see/hear about something your West Seattle neighbors should be aware of, please alert us (if you can do so safely/legally), text or voice, at our 24/7 hotline, 206-293-6302 – thank you!

7:03 AM: No incidents reported so far in or from West Seattle.
REMINDERS FOR TOMORROW: The King County Water Taxi will be out of service Friday in observance of Veterans Day; also, no school tomorrow, and many other closures … Tomorrow night, the Battery Street Tunnel will be closed both ways, 11:59 pm Friday to 6 am Saturday, during paving work above the tunnel.
7:12 AM: Just in from Metro:
Transit Alert – Route 56 to downtown Seattle due to leave 61st Av SW & Alki Av SW at 7:19 AM will not operate this morning.
— King County Metro🚌 (@kcmetrobus) November 9, 2017
A Route 55 bus also was skipped half an hour ago.
9:27 AM: Relatively uneventful commute. But we also keep watch throughout the day/night, so if you see/hear about a problem your West Seattle neighbors should be aware of, please let us know (if/when you can safely/legally use your phone) – 206-293-6302.
One other transportation-related note: The Washington State Ferries Triangle Task Force meets 4:30-7 pm at Fauntleroy Church (9140 California SW).
And we end on a cheery note – it’s a transit-related tweet from Jeremy:
This am in West Seattle, Alaska Junction: two tweens exit 55 & dash across California, ukulele strumming, singing — in tune — at top of lungs.

ADVANCE ALERTS: No school Friday, and many other closures, in observance of Veterans Day. The King County Water Taxi also will be out of service Friday … Friday night, the Battery Street Tunnel will be closed both ways, 11:59 pm Friday to 6 am Saturday, because of paving work above the tunnel.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
7:02 AM: We start with a crash response at Delridge and Oregon [map] – SFD has just sent additional units. According to scanner traffic, three vehicles are involved, one possibly on its side. We’re heading there to check.
7:08 AM: SFD reports that while there’s no serious injuries, the Delridge/Oregon intersection is blocked. If you usually travel through, find an alternative or wait a while.
7:24 AM: Thanks to Colin for the photo:
Our crew is still en route – stuck in traffic with everybody else.
7:32 AM: SFD has cleared the Delridge/Oregon scene, according to the 911 log, so it should be a bit less congested.
7:36 AM: Metro has sent an alert to catch Route 120 either south of Alaska or north of Genesee until this is cleared. Our crew has just arrived and says no one is hurt.
Police are now directing traffic through the intersection.
7:51 AM: Tow crews are reported to have arrived and Oregon will be blocked while they work to clear the scene.
8 AM: The 120 is back to its normal route, Metro says.
8:18 AM: And now the 125 is reported to have returned to normal.
8:54 AM: Just in case you haven’t left yet, the scene is clear per SPD and SDOT. No other area incidents reported – but if you see something, if/when you can use your phone safely/legally, thanks in advance for letting us know: 206-293-6302, text or voice, 24/7.
9:12 AM: California/Admiral signal is blinking red, per texter. (They asked who to report it to – we recommended 206-684-ROAD, which is the SDOT hotline; urgent problems such as debris in the road and other impediments to safely getting around also can be called to 911.)

6:30 AM: Good morning! The temperature’s above freezing and no reports of iciness in our area. But it’ll be a chilly day – highs in the 40s.
SHORT SCHOOL WEEK: Since Veterans Day is on a Saturday this year, it will be observed this Friday (November 10th) by many, including Seattle Public Schools.
7:35 AM: Still no incidents reported in/from West Seattle.
Thanks to Collin for the tip on this one – the photo shows one of two cars reported to be involved in a crash that is partly blocking Olson Place at Cambridge [map]. SFD has been dispatched. Avoid the area for a while.

6:56 AM: Good morning! No snow right now (some saw it earlier!) but it’s been raining all night, so you’re in for a wet commute. No incidents reported outbound in/from West Seattle right now, but there is a problem for people heading southbound on 99 – the Battery Street Tunnel’s SB side is closed because of a crash.
TIME-CHANGE REMINDER: Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 am Sunday, when we’ll “fall back” an hour.
7:15 AM: The Vashon Water Taxi has been canceled for the rest of the morning because of wind.
7:24 AM: John sent this photo taken about an hour ago in Upper Fauntleroy:
The National Weather Service says the snow level is rising as the morning goes by but if you see any falling, let us know via 206-293-6302, when you can safely/legally use your phone!
7:35 AM: The southbound Battery Street Tunnel has reopened. Still no outbound incidents reported.
8:16 AM: In comments, no-show buses at California/Admiral were mentioned. Here’s an after-the-fact Metro alert about two:
Transit Alert – Route 56 to downtown Seattle due to leave 61st Av SW & Alki Av SW at 6:59 & 7:32 AM did not operate this morning.
— King County Metro🚌 (@kcmetrobus) November 3, 2017
Meantime, now that it’s light, we’re going out to the highest-elevation parts of West Seattle to see if any trace of the early-early-morning snow remains.
8:21 AM: Also after-the-fact from Metro:
Transit Alert – Route 57 to Seattle due to leave the Alaska Junction at 7:06 AM & 8:07 AM did not operate this morning.
— King County Metro🚌 (@kcmetrobus) November 3, 2017
And on the south side:
Transit Alert – The last Rt 113 to Seattle due to leave 26 Av SW & SW 116 St at 8:12 AM did not operate this morning.
— King County Metro🚌 (@kcmetrobus) November 3, 2017
8:25 AM: And one more:
Transit Alert – The last Route 55 to downtown Seattle due to leave SW Atlantic St & 44 Av SW at 8:44 AM will not operate this morning.
— King County Metro🚌 (@kcmetrobus) November 3, 2017
9:26 AM: Didn’t see anything more serious out there than some snow spots on roofs and planting strips, and of course some on cars. A bit of snow/ice in a shower we drove through a few minutes ago en route back to HQ (which is at 330′ elevation), too.
9:46 AM: We’ll continue tracking the weather here unless things get more serious. Just got a text that 37th/Andover is seeing some snow. (206-293-6302 – text or voice – is always the best way to reach us immediately – thanks for the updates, reports, and tips!)
10:21 AM: Thanks for the texts – light snow reported in areas including The Junction and Seaview. And we’re still seeing a bit here in Upper Fauntleroy, east of Lincoln Park.
10:41 AM: Tamsen reports light snow in Morgan Junction.
AFTERNOON NOTE: PM coverage is here.
8:19 PM: Thanks to Mark for the tip – SDOT confirms there’s a crash on the West Seattle Bridge. The SFD dispatch is to the eastbound side, parallel with Admiral. SDOT describes it as blocking the right lane, but Mark says he saw, “Multiple cars – some backwards.” So if you’re heading out, heads up. More as we get it.
8:28 PM: The SFD incident log shows the aid car originally assigned to the call was put back into service, which indicates no major injuries.
8:49 PM: SFD has now cleared the scene. Looking at the nearest SDOT camera, it appears SPD is still there. (Lindsay reports on Twitter that the crash bumped out part of the jersey barrier at the center of the bridge.)
9:38 PM: Per scanner, police are still finishing clearing the scene, so you may encounter some temporary stoppages and ramp-blocking until towing (etc.) is complete. SDOT adds via Twitter that they have two different scenes – one closer to Admiral ramp, one closer to Harbor ramp.
9:56 PM: SDOT reports both scenes are now clear.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
7:06 AM: The city’s cameras are back. Meantime, SFD has just been dispatched to a two-car crash reported on the left side of NB 99 just north of the West Seattle Bridge.
7:13 AM: SDOT says the crash is blocking the left lane. Via scanner, SFD says the scene is about half a mile north of the bridge.
7:18 AM SDOT says 2 lanes are blocked.
7:36 AM: Crash scene cleared.
9:43 AM: Multiple-vehicle crash on the eastbound West Seattle Bridge at the high rise.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
7:02 AM: SDOT is still working on its camera access so we have the WSDOT cameras again today. No incidents reported in/from West Seattle so far.
TIME REMINDER: Early Sunday morning (late Saturday night), we “fall back” an hour to Standard Time.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
7:05 AM: No cameras yet – SDOT changed its website on Monday and they’re not turning up where they should be. The SDOT map links to live video but not the usual still images. We’ll re-add them as soon as they have them. Aside from that – no incidents reported in/from West Seattle.
HALLOWEEN REMINDERS: Admiral District businesses invite trick-or-treaters to stop by 3-6 pm today … Westwood Village business trick-or-treating is 4-6 pm. Wherever you go, the dry weather is likely to mean more trick-or-treaters than ever, so please be extra-careful.
7:30 AM: Still no incidents. WSDOT (state, not city) traffic cameras were not affected by the city’s change so we’re adding a few of those above for now (they have none on the WS Bridge as it’s a city roadway).
2:56 PM: SDOT says the “low bridge” is currently closed to vehicle traffic because of mechanical trouble – so avoid it TFN. We’ll update when we get word it’s fixed.
3:06 PM: The live-video camera on the SDOT map shows the gate’s now up, the light’s green, and vehicle traffic is moving across the bridge again.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
7:02 AM: Good morning! No incidents reported in/from West Seattle so far.
WATER TAXI SCHEDULE CHANGE: Another reminder, today is the start of the West Seattle Water Taxi’s fall/winter schedule.
That’s 5 days a week, am/pm commute times only – find the schedule here.
LAST WEEK OF DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME: This Saturday night/Sunday morning, we “fall back” an hour into standard time.
8:01 AM: No details but there’s an SFD medical response to the EB bridge exit to NB I-5. (Added) WSDOT says it’s a crash partly blocking the ramp.
8:32 AM: SDOT reports a collision on 35th SW near Kenyon.
8:47 AM: Thanks for the texts. A crash response on SW Admiral Way at Stevens has all lanes blocked right now, according to SDOT. We’re on our way to find out more.
9:08 AM: Our crew is there. One lane is open. Police tell us a passenger was taken to Harborview but the driver took off running after crashing the vehicle. As our photo shows, the tow truck has arrived, but SDOT is being called to clean up a fuel spill.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
6:59 AM: Good morning! So far, no incidents on the major outbound routes in/from West Seattle. But we have weekend alerts:
WEST SEATTLE JUNCTION HARVEST FESTIVAL: On Sunday, from early morning through about 4 pm, California will be closed to traffic between Alaska and Edmunds as well as the usual Farmers’ Market closure between Oregon and Alaska. The festival (full details here) runs 10 am-2 pm.
SW EDMUNDS CLOSURE AT 40TH SW: SDOT plans to continue its paving work starting Saturday morning and potentially continuing through Sunday afternoon.
I-5 REPAIRS TONIGHT: 11 pm tonight through 6 am Saturday, repair work will close three lanes of NB I-5 through downtown, between Yesler Way and Seneca Street.
7:37 AM UPDATE: After-the-fact transit alert:
Transit Alert – Route 56 to downtown Seattle due to leave 61st Av SW & Alki Av SW at 7:19 AM did not operate this morning.
— King County Metr🎃🍂 (@kcmetrobus) October 27, 2017
9:34 AM: WSDOT says tonight’s I-5 lane closures (mentioned above) are canceled. Meantime, we forgot to mention that this is the last weekend for the West Seattle Water Taxi’s seven-day-a-week schedule – next Monday, it starts the five-day-a-week schedule, which also means no midday trips.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
7:02 AM: Good morning! No incidents in/from West Seattle so far this Wednesday.
7:12 AM: Now that the weekend is in view, time for a couple reminders:
SATURDAY & SUNDAY – SW Edmunds is scheduled to be closed at 40th SW for a continuation of the paving work that started weekend before last.
SUNDAY – The West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival will close an additional block of California to traffic south of the Farmers’ Market, so the Sunday closure zone for this week only will be between SW Oregon and SW Edmunds.
7:19 AM: If you use 59th/Admiral, we have multiple reports that the pedestrian-activated stoplight has been reactivated, after weeks of controversy over the effects of SDOT changing the intersection to stop-all-ways. We are heading over for a look.
8:10 AM: Confirmed – without advance notice, the Admiral stop signs are gone and the signal is back to pedestrian-controlled for crossing Admiral. Separate story later – we will be checking with SDOT.
ADDED WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: We have published a followup with what SDOT says is next.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
6:59 AM: Good morning! Two things you should know about as we head for the heart of the commute: A northbound I-5 crash downtown (at Pine) has just cleared, but there’s a residual backup. Also, SFD is responding to a reported car fire at Delridge/Trenton.
8:02 AM: A texter advises NOT taking the low bridge to get to the ramp to I-5/99, because there’s a stalled semi.

(SDOT MAP with travel times/video links; is the ‘low bridge’ closed? LOOK HERE)
6:59 AM: Good morning. So far this Monday, no incidents reported in/from West Seattle.
WATER TAXI NOTE: This is the final week of this year’s 7-day-a-week, all-day schedule for the West Seattle Water Taxi – as of one week from today (Monday, October 30th) it’ll be on the five-day fall/winter schedule, which you can preview here.
8:50 AM: Still quiet! But we cover major traffic incidents the rest of the day/night too, if/when they happen – tips appreciated (when you can safely/legally text/call) at 206-293-6302.
Thanks to Mel for the photo. Westbound Roxbury is blocked right now at 17th SW because of that crash. No major injuries. Wherever you are going today, be cautious and allow extra time – we have had trouble on most major corridors at one time or another so far.
11:24 AM: Thanks for the texts. A crash on the eastbound West Seattle Bridge from Fauntleroy is near the curve, we’re told, blocking at least one lane, and a texter says the jersey barrier has again been displaced – which happened multiple times because of crashes earlier this week. So if you need to get to the eastbound bridge, you might consider using Avalon or Delridge instead, for a while.
11:33 AM: SFD has already closed out of the crash call, so, no major injuries.
11:54 AM: Still a trouble spot, though, according to SDOT’s Travelers Map as well as Twitter reports.
Meantime, a new crash – Olson Place SW, southbound per scanner, 9200 block, just before Myers Way [map]. Minor injuries but if you’re headed south/eastbound in the Roxbury corridor, take note.
As mentioned in our morning traffic coverage, we were checking with SDOT to see if SW Edmunds was indeed going to be closed again this weekend at 40th SW for continuing repaving work. Just heard back from SDOT’s Sue Romero, who tells us it’s being rescheduled since more heavy rain is anticipated, and they’re now expecting to resume the work October 28-29.
