West Seattle Little League‘s 11U Softball All-Stars won their historic softball championship on Saturday 25+ miles away in Gig Harbor – so many hometown fans didn’t get to be there to cheer for them – but this afternoon at Bar-S, the players and their supporters got to make up for that. The players were introduced during a break in play in the state tournament WSLL is currenly hosting. Then they unveiled their championship banner in its spot along the banners from WSLL’s two baseball state championships:

Among them was District 1 City Councilmember Rob Saka, whose daughter Maeve is on the championship team. As noted in our West Seattle Grand Parade coverage two Saturdays ago, he walked in the parade with the team, handing out LOVE SOFTBALL stickers to spectators.
SIDE NOTE: Though WSLL doesn’t have a team in the state tournament it’s hosting for a younger group of players, it’s fun to watch and you’re welcome to come claim a spot on the bleachers this week – here’s the bracket with teams and times.

Found on parking strip in front of 3436 61st SW. Looks like it was stolen and all rifled through. Many items broken open but the nice bags, lunch box, and thermos are intact. Well worth picking up if it belongs to you.

5:23 PM: A longtime Junction restaurant has announced it’s moving. Mashiko (4725 California SW) made the announcement this afternoon:

You heard it here first, folks! After 32 years in our humble location, It’s time to say goodbye to the building as it’ll be torn down soon. The Junction and y’all are special to us in so many ways. We’ve been through a lot together! First dates, anniversaries, birthdays, saying goodbyes and welcoming others, but don’t fret! We’re not going far!
We’ll be relocating to White Center, where both Mariah and Alix each call home. We hope that you’ll come and see us in the Junction over the next few months and say goodbye to the location that has brought us all together over the last 3 decades. It’s been an honor to serve you here and we look forward to creating new memories with you in the future location (to be announced soon).
The current owners took over seven years ago; Mashiko founder Hajime Sato moved out of state. Regarding the building being “torn down,” we checked city files to be sure we hadn’t missed anything, and there is nothing currently on file for that address. The building is owned by the Miller family, which does have a long-on-hold project further south on the block awaiting better development conditions.
ADDED 9:58 PM: We neglected to say thanks for the tips – both on that and on this: Coincidentally, it turns out Mashiko’s founder is back in the Northwest – opening a sushi restaurant in the Portland area.
A fire response near Camp Second Chance (9701 Myers Way S.) requires SFD to run a hose across Myers, so they’re asking for SPD help to close the road. We don’t know anything about the fire except that it’s a one-engine response. Avoid the area.

Five months after buying that empty lot in the 5000 block of Delridge Way SW, Habitat for Humanity is proceeding through the permit process for what’s described as a 29-unit, five-story “affordable for-sale” housing project. Documents in online city files say the project – official address, 5011 Delridge – will be a mix of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. The name Puget Park Flats is in the permit system too. We have an inquiry out to the nonprofit in hopes of getting their current timeline. Habitat’s previous West Seattle projects include the six-home Highland Terrace in the 9000 block of 15th SW and four homes in the 2100 block of SW Trenton. Under previous ownership, our archives indicate, the 5011 Delridge site was proposed for half a dozen townhouses back in 2018, and once held a triplex.
That sign went up a few days ago north of Morgan Junction (that’s the West Seattle Church of the Nazarene at 42nd/Juneau in the background). A reader told us an ICE arrest had been reported at 41st/Juneau, but we had no photo nor other corroborating details – until now, when another reader pointed us to this video clip posted by U.S. Senator Patty Murray on social media.
This is the full text of what Sen. Murray wrote beneath the video:
On Thursday, ICE needlessly detained Eduardo Aguirre Esparza, a local Seattle small business owner with no criminal history. This is a man who is married to an American citizen and with deep ties to our local community who was working hard to pursue a legal pathway to lawful permanent residence. For the federal government to waste its resources to forcefully detain and deport Eduardo and tear apart an American family is plain sick. Our immigration enforcement should be focused on violent criminals and keeping Americans safe — deporting hardworking people like Eduardo makes no one safer, it’s just cruel and wrong.
I am demanding that DHS return Eduardo to Washington state so that he may receive due process and have access to counsel—flying Eduardo to Texas away from his lawyers to try and deport him is fundamentally wrong and un-American. I hope others in Washington state will join me in calling for Eduardo’s immediate return home so that the courts can fairly consider his case.
Her website also has a news release about this, dated yesterday, which adds:
Eduardo Aguirre Esparza is an undocumented immigrant, married to an American citizen. He’s a hardworking small business owner who owns a remodeling company in Seattle. He’s lived in Seattle for 23 years. Following his detainment to the Northwest ICE Processing Center (NWIPC) on Thursday, Eduardo was flown out of Washington state on ICE Air at 2 AM on Saturday morning without notice to anyone, including his attorney and family. After several stops along the way, Eduardo is now being held in Texas where his family suspects ICE intends to conduct an expedited deportation hearing to remove Eduardo from his home as quickly as possible and without representation of counsel. Senator Murray is joining Eduardo’s family in demanding that he be returned to Western Washington to receive his due process protections.
We have a message out to the senator’s office to ask if they’ve received a response.

ORIGINAL 12:35 AM REPORT: If you’re south of Alki Point and noticing police activity on- and off-shore – they’re checking out a report that a sailboat might be “stuck on the rocks.” First arrivals were land units who didn’t see any signs of people on the boat; a Harbor Patrol boat is on the way for a close-up look.
