About the Play

Join Listening to Grief for a Grief Walk in Schmitz Preserve Park. Walk through one of Seattle’s only old-growth forests with others who are also grieving. All types of grief are welcome. During the walk we will stop for poetry, observation, movement, story sharing, and quiet contemplation.

All are welcome. Keep in mind we will be talking about grief and death, which may be sensitive topics for some. The trails are uneven and sometimes narrow, and there are a couple steep inclines and one set of wooden stairs. The ground may be muddy. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes.

Join us for free performances of our 2024 touring production, Monkey and Francine in the City of Tigers. This 45-minute opera for youth audiences fuses together folktales from around the world to tell the story of Monkey and his brainy sister, Francine. The siblings must learn to cooperate to escape a hungry crocodile and outwit the greedy Lord of the Tigers. Combining multiple styles of music from Bollywood, Ethiopian jazz, Latin, and classical, this opera shares the timeless message that we all have different strengths, but when we work together, anything is possible.
This production is appropriate for all ages, especially families with children. Audience members should bring their own chairs or blankets.

A continuation of Henry VI part 1, Shakespeare’s chronicles of the Wars of the Roses. We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.

The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.

As it stands, the project would include three light rail stations: Delridge (at Delridge and Andover), Avalon (at 35th and Avalon), and West Seattle Junction (at Alaska and 41st). The presentation and forum will provide background about ST3, review of the project plan and timeline, detail the alternatives proposed and the possible alignments, discuss the financial cost and community impacts, provide an overview of the entitlements for displaced residents and businesses, and end on a call to action.

The event will conclude with a question-and-answer segment. If you would like to submit your questions ahead of time, you may do so on this form. Pre-submitted questions will be asked at the beginning of the segment by our moderator.

West Seattle Tool Library provides free, community access to a wide variety of tools, training, and sustainable resources. Utilizing a diverse collection of over 1,500 tools, our membership has successfully grown entire community orchards, built mini-greenhouses, and even just mowed their own lawns. Celebrate the award-winning exhibit t?awi Creek of Hope at the Log House Museum

Join the Southwest Seattle Historical Society, photographer Tom Reese, the Duwamish Alive Coalition, and Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association on Thursday, July 25 to celebrate the success of t?awi Creek of Hope. The exhibit will be closing at the end of the month. 

The award-winning exhibit tells the story
of West Seattle’s ancient Longfellow
Creek from when salmon first chose to make it their home, through intense urbanization in the
late 19th and 20th centuries, through today when the creek and its people are beginning to tell a
new story – one of renewed hope.

It features photographs of the creek from award-winning photographer and author Tom Resse
and is a collaboration between the historical society, the Duwamish Alive Coalition, and the
Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association.

“The exhibit has provided a unique opportunity to talk about the natural environment in highly
urbanized and industrialized areas. The photos by Tom Reese stunningly describe both the
power of this creek to support wildlife and persevere, but also how human impact – both
negative and positive – can effect change,” says Elizabeth Rudrud, programs and outreach
director. Rudrud also acknowledges the leadership of Sharon Leishman, Executive Director at
Duwamish Alive Coalition, and Caroline Borsenik, Environmental Programs Director at DNDA,
in creating new connections between the historical society and environmental leaders and
educators across the region.

This partnership also resulted in extensive community-wide programs including guided hikes led by DNDA Environmental Education Staff and a sold-out panel discussion hosted at the Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center that featured researchers from the University of Washington Center for Urban Waters and City of Seattle Public Utilities, authors Kelly Brenner, The Naturalist at Home, and Tom Reese, Once and Future River: Reclaiming the Duwamish, and several community partners.

Join Friends of Seattle’s Olmsted Parks for a guided walking tour to learn about the history and planning of Schmitz Preserve Park. The walk is free; space is limited and advance registration via Eventbrite is required.

Meet at the Schmitz Park trailhead at the intersection of SW Admiral Way and SW Stevens St., 5463 SW Stevens St., at 10 am.

Loop tour is approximately 1.5 miles long and estimated to take about 2 hours. Some portions of the trail are steep. Please wear footwear appropriate for trail conditions, including possible mud.

I am an elementary teacher and I live in the Arbor Heights neighborhood. (This is a) recurring event that I am hosting this summer for kids at the Seola Pond on SW 106th. Experience the healing vibrations of sound and nature! Blending the power of nature to renew and restore, and the gong, an ancient instrument used to heal the body and mind, you’ll enjoy a powerful sonic and sensory experience.

The session begins with gentle stretching and a nervous system regulation technique leading into a gong bath meditation.

Please bring a towel or yoga mat, a blanket, jacket and/or any other props to keep you comfortable and cozy.

Puget Sound Zen hosts a weekly Monday evening sitting/meditation in the Chapel, Room 402 at the Fauntleroy Church/United Church of Christ. Evenings will consist of chanting, meditation and discussion.

Everyone is welcome – people from all different meditation/spiritual traditions, people who have never meditated, and people who are curious.

If you arrive 10 minutes before the service we’ll give you some brief instructions, or you can just walk in and follow along.

F3, a free national men’s workout group:

We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.

The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.
