About the Play

A continuation of Henry VI part 1, Shakespeare’s chronicles of the Wars of the Roses. England is embroiled in political turmoil as the ineffectual King Henry VI struggles to maintain control amidst growing dissent and power struggles among nobles. The rise of the ambitious Richard, Duke of York, sets the stage for a bloody conflict for the throne, as factions vie for supremacy and betrayal lurks at every turn. Amidst treachery, ambition, and shifting allegiances, the fate of England hangs in the balance, with the crown as the ultimate prize in a brutal game of power.

West Seattle Bee Garden work party
Aug 4 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Monthly work parties – just drop by!

We need some serious help at this weekend’s work party to:
-reshape (weeding and turning in cover crop) the brand new children’s garden which has had exceptional growth (should we rename it the children’s forest?)
-pluck the ever present horsetail from beds
-continue clearing the overgrown area we hope to convert to a native shade garden

If enough person power, I’d also love to collect seeds that we can later contribute to the Seed Library at High Point SPL. (we have some buckwheat and phacelia cover crop going to seed, cosmos, columbine and lupine too!)

When is the work party? This Sunday Aug 4th, 10-12pm
What to bring/wear:

Your gardening spirit (no experience necessary)
Water bottle
Sunblock
Close-toed shoes
We have a selection of gardening tools and gloves available but if you have a favorite from home, please bring it, we love learning about folks’ favorite tools.

I’ll bring bagels from Blazing Bagels so let me know if you’re coming so that I can be sure to have enough.

GreenStage ‘Backyard Bard’ abbreviated versions of two Shakespeare plays @ four performances, three dates, two parks
Aug 4 @ 3:00 pm

Since 1989 GreenStage has brought free Shakespeare in the park to Seattle area audiences. Our mission is to foster an appreciation for live theater by eliminating geographical and financial barriers that impede access to the arts. Our shows tour to over 20 parks, large and small in and around Seattle. Attending is easy – just show up, grab a spot on the grass and enjoy. No tickets or reservations are required. Our shows are focused on the text, story, and character relationships in Shakespeare’s plays, with a goal of making the plays fun and easy to understand. Come join us in the parks this summer for our 36th Anniversary season!

Backyard Bard was born out of a desire to bring Shakespeare to smaller parks and new audiences in underserved neighborhoods. But we don’t just perform in the parks – Backyard Bard is also available for private parties. If you are interested in hosting a performance, contact us at greenstage@greenstage.org.

Early morning F3 men’s workout group at Hiawatha
Aug 6 @ 5:30 am

F3, a free national men’s workout group:

We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.

The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.
