$15 General Admission / $10 Senior/Student

Singer-songwriter Larry Murante is well known for his soaring, mellifluous tenor, strong rhythmic guitar style, and engaging stage presence. He performs both originals and cover tunes. His award-winning original songs feature beautifully woven stories about everyday folks. They combine compassionate, socially conscious lyrics with an upbeat, joyful folk-rock style.

Larry’s music is reminiscent of Jackson Browne, Lyle Lovett, and Marc Cohn. His extensive repertoire of originals and classic covers can be tailored to audiences at festivals, wineries, restaurants, pubs, private events, radio interviews, and house concerts.

Nati Popova

Award-winning violinist Natasha (Nati) Popova grew up in Moscow Russia and has performed all over Europe and the US for the past several decades. Natasha studied classical violin at Gnesin’s Music academy in Moscow Russia and organ at Hochshule Luzern in Switzerland. As a violinist, she has performed on the Bangladesh, “Wind Of Change” TV series and a US national tour with accordionist Sergei Teleshev as well as several other music projects in Moscow, Russia, Eugene, OR and Dallas, TX. Natasha has amassed many performance awards including winner of the All-Russian contest “New Names” and the Grand Prix of the festival “International Talented” award to name a few. She is currently seeking asylum in the US and misses her brother and sister currently living in Ukraine and her mother and father who reside in Moscow, Russia.

In the past 10 years, Larry Murante has won more than 18 awards in US and international competitions for songwriting and performance, including Grand Prize Winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Other awards include the West Coast Songwriters Song Contest and the Great American Song Contest (see full list). His fourth CD release, Patch of Sky, has garnered critical acclaim and radio airplay in both the US and Europe.

“Larry’s a great talent! His insightful, original songs are perfectly complemented by his pure tenor voice, skilled guitar, and harmonica playing. He adds funny and thoughtful on-stage banter and stories, lacing his music together for a relaxed and pleasing night of music. Go see him!” —Craig Lund, Seattle Folklore Society

Priorities change monthly to meet special and seasonal needs … so please check our website for updates.

The Westside Interfaith Network (WIN), our donations drive partner, requests non-perishable food/personal hygiene items as well as men’s work clothing, socks, work boots, etc. Outdoor gear is always needed: tents, tarps, backpacks, etc.

Your donations are distributed through WIN’s “Welcome Table,” a weekly Saturday meal for unsheltered and low-income folks hosted in White Center. This distribution serves as a stop-gap for many people relying on weekly visits to the food bank.

Please note! If you can’t make it to the monthly drive, you can leave your donations in the barrel outside the church’s front entrance. IF YOU WANT TO DONATE MORE THAN 3 BAGS, PLEASE CONTACT US FIRST TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS. We unfortunately don’t have the storage space or staff to accommodate large donations between drives.

Deepest gratitude to our community for your generous support of our neighbors in need.

Alki United Church of Christ (Alki UCC)

in collaboration with Kol HaNeshamah Synagogue (KHN)

Info: alkiucc.org

In the past nine months, the Pride/Trans and Black Lives Matter banners hanging from the front of our building were vandalized and replaced multiple times. After the fifth recent vandalism, we began to imagine together the possibility of a different response. We consulted with a local artist and collaborated on how to best transform the damaged Black Lives Matter banner into a visual affirmation of love and justice.

On May 19, under the artist’s direction, we will add our personal artistic expressions to an evocative image featuring the words of the prophet Amos, quoted by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr: “Let justice roll down like water.”

Join us for an all-ages joyful event with refreshments, art tables/supplies and a sing-along to songs of love and justice with Alki UCC Music Director, Stephen Anthony Rawson.

Early morning F3 men’s workout group at Hiawatha
May 21 @ 5:30 am

F3, a free national men’s workout group:

We have a local workout location that meets at Hiawatha park on Tuesday mornings at 5:30 am sharp. The group has been around for a few years, so many folks that are up early might have come across us before doing burpees or pushups and counting out loud. We’d love to extend the invite to men of any fitness level – we work out as a group and don’t leave anyone behind, come as you are and hopefully leave a bit better.

The workout is 45 minutes long and then we all get coffee at West Seattle Grounds. You don’t need to bring anything special, just wear comfortable athletic clothes appropriate for the weather and some sneakers. Some work or gardening gloves can be helpful if you have a pair. Just don’t be late or the whole group is doing penalty burpees.

HPAC’s May 2024 meeting @ online
May 22 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

With the Highland/Holden intersection work almost completed, the Highland Park Way bike lane and pedestrian improvements project is now looking for comments & providing planning opportunities.

As noted on their website: “The Highland Park Way SW Connection project is intended to provide an improved path for people to walk, roll, and bike between the Highland Park and Riverview neighborhoods and the Duwamish River Trail.”

Besides connecting bikes and walkers from our ridge to the trail, this route serves as a major vehicle arterial in and out of West Seattle at large, carrying an important part of area traffic loads. So far planners are focusing on narrowing the Highland Park Way hill to three lanes of vehicle traffic to make this connection, if you have other ideas or suggestions we encourage you to be involved now.

SDOT has some preliminary plans posted online, and representatives will be attending our May HPAC meeting at 7pm on May 22nd. We will be using Zoom this month. You can log in to our meeting via the link below [see this page on the HPAC website].

In addition, there will be SDOT folks at Highland Park Corner Store events on May 16 and 23rd for in-person conversations, as well as other nearby events, the West Seattle Bee Festival in High Point on May 18th, and Spring Fling at the SCC Campus on May 22. Times are found on the project webpage. SDOT encourages you to Share your thoughts by June 15!

Early morning F3 men’s workout group at Hiawatha
May 28 @ 5:30 am

Its free to anyone and everyone. Just hoping the space can be a gift to the neighborhood. One change for now is we will be opening the sanctuary up as the play area as we are still trying to rebuild and repair things from the fire last spring.
