A pane of glass was broken in one of my windows and I’d like recommendations for having it fixed. It’s an older single pane window, but looking at it and tinkering I don’t know how to fix it, and would probably end up having multiple sheets of glass cut in a trail and error approach. Best to call for help.

Plenty of window companies advertise installation of new windows, but not repair of old ones. I all ready read postings on stuck windows, what about broken glass? Any relevant success stories on professional help with a broken window?

About 11 years ago I used L & L Glass (542-5015) to do a difficult window replacement in the upper story of my house. I don’t remember their names, just that they were a father and son team. They did a great job. The window was hard to get to, and had a metal frame (it was actually a boat window) rather than wood. If those two still own the business, I recommend them without reservation.

It’s not that hard. Just a small investment in tools and supplies. I got this book http://tinyurl.com/34ep3na (link goes to Amazon) and did a bunch in my garage. If you carefully measure the opening and take he dimensions to a hardware store, they’ll cut a piece to fit. Err on the side of too big because you can always cut it smaller (and a glass cutter is only a few dollars). It’s a fun project and very doable for even the moderately handy like me.
