Lots of opinions here on the Presidential race, but not so much on the Governor…

    I need info!

This one is difficult. Rossi’s ads are so convincing… misleading but convincing.

someone who has been here longer and knows a bit of history needs to wade in on this one.

Can you tell mo more about what you have found misleading about his ads. I have heard many ads that have been misleading about him and his history, but very little of his ads I have seen of his (truthfully i havent seen many of his ads) are misleading about his opposition.

I haven’t done a lot of research about either candidate, but one thing I really like is that Dino is for replacing the WASL test. The WASL test is a scam, that distracts teachers from being able to do their jobs, imo. It concerns me that Gov. Gregoire misleads the public on the WASL test stating that 90% of students passed the WASL this year. What she fails to mention is that throughout the entire state of Washington we never have 90% of the students meeting the standards in any grade level or any section of the WASL test. So, not only is this test distracting teachers from doing their jobs, but also it isn’t bettering the students preparation for the future. To see the detailed reports check out the Office of Superintendent for Public Instruction websites. Here is the link:

I just did a search using fact check dino rossi and came up with dino’s own website doing the “factcheck”.. not too helpful

    http://www.dinorossi.com/factcheck/home.htm

It turns out that the best that comes up on either candidate with a fact check search is their own website…

    http://www.chrisgregoire.com/

i see why people are feeling confused.

    ok..

the trouble with finding info on Rossi is that he has flooded search engines with his own campaign material… including co-opting fact check by putting a fact check site on his website…

he is a very astute campaigner.

    so.. what’s the other side?

Dino on Labor.. including a brochure that you can download to read both dino’s and christine’s position and voting record..

    http://www.wslc.org/cope/rossi.htm

Dino on health care.. produced by SEIU Helathcare with an informative link to some ads produced by Evergreen Progress on Dino’s health care record… including if you dig deeper.. a list of some of his largest campaign contributors..

    http://www.seiu1199nw.org/Dino_Rossi__a_poor_record_on_healthcare.aspx

Dino won’t release tax returns.. christine will

    http://www.crosscut.com/2008-election/15727/The+governor+releases+her+IRS+return%3B+Dino+Rossi+still+won’t/

    and just for fun..

But what you learn quicly by visiting the factcheck site created by Dino is that the SEIU Healthcare and Evergreen Progress are both in the process of negotitating contracts with Gov. Gregoire.

So what does that have to do with anything, BDG? They’re negotiating contracts with the state–and Gregoire is govenor of the state.

Rossi is a conservative R, doing his best (and obviously succeeding) to seem otherwise.

Rather than looking up his current propaganda, look up his voting record on issues of particular interest to you. Despite his best efforts to seem like an outsider, he’s been in state government for a long time.

As far as WASL, the governor doesn’t decide whether kids get tested. You can think the R’s under Bush for the fact that standardized tests have superceded every other criterion for student success. And, if you want a change in that, look at candidates for state superintendent of schools.

And lastly that last “fun” website is a joke. The very first paragraph i noticed made me realize that. The website claims that Rossi doesnt support a womens right to choose. Fact is Rossi believes that the voters have decided that a women needs the right to choose and he thinks until the voters decide otherwise there is no reason to change anything. He has continued and will continue to keep to his beliefs that every soul has a value. I find it honorable that he is sticking to his core Catholic belief system and not compromising his beliefs just to get elected. The site also claims that Dino questions global warming. Funny that if he questioned global warming part of his campaign slogan wouldnt include that it isnt if its how we reduce our carbon emissions. And in May of 2008 he stated in the PI that there is no doubt that the planet is warming… this is just a small bit of what this silly site is wrong about…

That doesn’t make the info on their websites any less relevant.

it’s his record or it isn’t.

As for them negotiating with Gregoire on contracts.. they are negotiating with the state of Washington for contracts and Gregoire happens to be it’s sitting governor. If Rossi were the siting governor they would be negotiating with him.

I lost a quote i am going to look for.. but it is one of the most common sense things i have heard recently…

    paraphrased it says…

it is too easy to label any accusation political posturing.. but if someone is doing something wrong and you accuse them.. it has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with right and wrong… and that should be pursed regardless of any labeling of political partisanship.

tarring a source by implying vested interests is one way to eliminate attention on their information…

but before writing it off, you should look at the information.

i did before i posted it.

I did read two of the four links. both links I read had misrepresented facts so i decided not to bother with the other two. the other link i was in regards to the healthcare. it states that he stated against the ability to negotiate lower prescription costs when in all actuality he voted in favor of SB 5904….

I get very frustrated with poititians that campaign on a platform of change when they have very little power to change things. How will Rossi fix traffic? Is he going to drive a bus? His ads are so misleading.

We are the only ones who can change traffic by choosing to change our driving habits, and our votes for mass transit.

What Dino Rossi says now to get elected and what Dino Rossi has consistently said may be two different things..

let’s start with global warming.. in his own words as recently as last year…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q6uJQoUIGqk

well written rebuttal to Rossi’s supposed eco credentials

    http://www.horsesass.org/?p=4943

all i did was plug in global warming and dino rossi in google…

    #638205

With all the problems in previous WA elections, why vote for either? Go ahead and vote, it might be counted.

He doesnt say he is against or doesnt say global warming doesnt exist in that youtube video. He says its going to be a big debate about over the causes and prevention of global warming over the next few years. Which he is dead on about.

Its hard though b/c they are mixing him up with John McCain b/c it is published on an anti-Republican site which is where the rebuttal was posted as well….

Anyhow, i believe him when he says that he believes in global warming. He does question what causes global warming which i respect.

oh yes voter fraud WSratsinacage…we have already talked about that as well. would love to hear your thoughts on the matter. Although, from your post, I think I already have an idea.

I was not a huge Gregoire fan when she was elected, but believe she has done a good job and has tried to bring the state together.

Worked to creat a Rainy Day Fund with protections with an initial deposit of 165 million dollars.

Created 20,000 new jobs in Washington State

    Increased trade

Forbes magazine listed Washington state as one of the top five places for small business.

That is just a start. As soon as projections showed lower income for the coming year due to lower home values and people spending less the Governor implemented a spending freeze and reworked the budget.

As I said I was not a big fan four years ago, but she has earned my vote for re-election.

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2008169822_social10m.html

From the front page of the Seattle Times today:

“Few things demonstrate the political gulf between Democratic Gov. Christine Gregoire and Republican Dino Rossi more than their stances on social issues.

Gregoire supports giving gay and lesbian partners the same rights that married couples have today, as long as it isn’t called marriage. Rossi opposes such a move and would consider rolling back a new provision in state law that allows a domestic partner to inherit assets without a will.

Gregoire says pharmacies should be required to sell Plan B emergency contraception, the so-called “morning-after” pill. Rossi said pharmacists should have the right to refuse to fill those prescriptions.

Both gubernatorial candidates oppose assisted suicide for terminally ill patients, and both support the death penalty in rare cases. But they differ sharply over abortion.”

    Beachdrivegirl…

in that video.. Rossi does not admit that global warming exists… he still thinks we need to talk about it.

the only reason we ever needed to talk about whether it existed was the Bush administration made it federal policy that global warming didn’t exist, regardless of what any government agency’s own data showed… or what international data showed.

Dino Rossi is a day late and a dollar short on any issue having to do with the environment… and only backs environmental solutions after they have already been implemented and have met the test of public approval.

Play that video again and listen to how he answers a direct question and then compare that to John McCain’s two step answering direct questions where his actual policy is out of step with public opinion. There are striking similarities.

There is a reason Dino Rossi is lumped with McCain and Bush and other right leaning republican politicians.

If you look at how he votes.. not what he promises… that is right where he belongs.

It has been pretty well established since the 2004 election that Bush and the Nat’l Republicans have dumped tons of money into the Rossi campaign in particular because they want to shake the Democratic hold of the Governorship in our State. It’s a targeted effort on the part of the RNC and it appears to be continuing unabated in this election as well.

There is an undated video on this website that shows Dino Rossi saying, in response to a question about his stand on abortion, that “we should consider alternatives used 90-100 years ago, like homes for unwed mothers”. WTF???

    FYI…

Most of you are probably not old enough to have had any experience with homes for unwed mothers.

i spent a week in one and ran away in the middle of the night.

I had friends who weren’t lucky enough to escape.

These weren’t places women went to get educated and find loving homes for their babies.

These were holding facilities and one of the largest sources for black market babies.

And, for most of the women i know who spent their pregnancies in one, it was not a voluntary choice. Parents or local authorities brought the women to these facilities in the middle of the night and they were locked in.

That’s what happened to me. I was just lucky that my mom believed me when i told her what was happening there and didn’t force me to become a permanent pregnant runaway.

Women were treated as though they had committed a crime.. forced to work long hours.. fed poorly.. and often didn’t receive proper medical care while giving birth.. without anesthesia.

Even worse.. decades later.. this group of birth moms are largely unable to find a paper trail that will allow them to find their adopted children.. and the same is true for those adopted kids.

Those homes were the source of incredible sorrow while they existed.. and have perpetuated that sorrow for the lifetime of both those who gave up children and those who were adopted.

I know there were exceptions.. but this was the rule.

And for those who think we would do better this time.. investigate how much we are willing to invest in teaching teen mothers how to care for their children and build a productive life for the two of them. Or how much we invest in the medically indigent.. we dump them from hospitalization to the streets.. or the mentally ill. Why would we be more willing to invest in homes for unwed mothers?

Homes for unwed mothers and the orphanages their babies were dropped into if they considered unadoptable (not attractive enough to sell) are aberrations i hope to never see return in our society.

Can someone please highlight what Chris has done in the past few years to make me want to keep her in office, I think it might be time to give someone new a chance. Change for the sake of change.
