bsmommaParticipantOK, so I kicked this one around and I justified posting a rant here because I was in my West Seattle home when I purchased the tickets on-line…… I’d like to know how the people at the White River Ampitheater can sleep at night? I bought 4 lawn seet tickets ($10 “special”)to the NKOTB concert (don’t Judge!!) Why in the world was my total $89.00??!!!!! The ticket handling fee($5) and parking fee($6) FOR EACH TICKET were more than the price of the ticket!! We’re taking 1 car……Robbery! That’s worst than the “tax man”! But yes, I bought them anyways and I’m sure that’s why they can charge so much. NKOTB was my 1st concert and now I’m taking my daughter to her 1st concert! Aaawwwwwwww.

Bikefor1MemberI hate ticket fees too. I will go to the venue and buy them from the box office to avoid them. Which is ok when it’s in Seattle, but who wants to drive all the way to Auburn, huh?

swimcatMemberTicketmaster is a racket- I refuse to go to events where I have to buy tickets through them. If you buy online, they charge at least $4 PER TICKET you buy for a service charge; if it were $4 per transaction I could handle paying that, but really. No service is provided when you buy online, why do you have to pay a fee??? I’ve complained to them before, and they say it is for their backoffice systems, blah, blah, blah. I feel your pain bsmomma.

addParticipantNot only a service fee per ticket, then they usually add a “convenience” charge to the whole order, and oh yes sometimes another couple of bucks so that you can print the tix yourself at home. It drives me crazy too and I will usually drive to a box office if I can – even if the price of gas/parking makes it a wash – just based on principle!!

KBearParticipantYou know it’s a racket when they can insult their customers with terms like “convenience fee”. I don’t find ridiculous fees convenient at all.

KeithMemberI can’t believe they charge a parking fee per person for White River. I’ve been there once and it took us 2.5 hours to get out of the parking lot! Never again.
I loathe Ticketmaster and LiveNation, and the bad news is they’re poised to merge.
When you do have a chance to buy tickets from another outlet with more reasonable fees such as Tickets.com or Ticketweb, make sure you let the venue know that you appreciate having an alternative to Ticketshafter.

squareeyesParticipantYou can usually get better seats by going to the ticket office as well. I bought tickets at the Benaroya Hall box office (15 minutes free parking in the building for ticket-buyers!). The ticket agent said that ticketmaster sells seats front to back then the boxes, when the boxes can actually be the better seating. I found better seating available at the Paramount box office than was offered on tm too.
Although going to the box office at places like the Key & Paramount can require hunting for parking, meters, and a nice stroll it’s certainly worth the effort for savings in fees and/or better seating.
Of course, that doesn’t help with venues like White River where you’re entirely at the mercy of the dreaded tm…

addParticipantI agree with Keith about White River and the parking lot. We had the same experience when they first opened, I guess it hasn’t gotten any better – and have not gone back since.

ErikParticipantThe trick to getting out of White River quickly is to head the other direction, toward Enumscratch.

JoBParticipanti think the concept of reasonable fees has gotten way out of hand..
it’s not just ticketmaster… in states where unemployment is put on a debit card.. banks are charging fees each time you access the money…
i am afraid this sort of thing is going to take regulation…
89 for 40 dollars worth of tickets:(

RainyDay1235MemberThere are buses that take you to/from and I believe depart from Supermall. Not sure if that will waive your fee, but we got dropped off and picked up quiklky and easily. They just filled buses as people came out and took of – and it was fabulous. That was a few years ago though…Ah, Neil Young!

addParticipantI heard the buses were getting stuck in the parking lot along with all the cars, so it sounds like they fixed that, good. Interesting point about waiving the fee if you plan to take the bus – I wonder how they’ll handle that one? WRA usually does have a great line-up, I’ve just avoided it because of the parking. Maybe I’ll try again this year!
