We just got notification by mail that according to the city of Seattle, their records indicate our house is within a peat-settlement prone area and thus subject to a new city ordinance, 122738. Has anyone else had that misfortune?

I just searched the City Code for that number

and nothing came up. Who did you get notification from and what did it say you had to do about it?

DPD? I didn’t know what peat-settlement prone meant, but this came up

I can’t find a map, which would be interesting because I think this says (because of a high water table) buildings could get the parking and/or height restrictions loosened if they are in the prone zone.

Doesn’t mean much unless you’re going to build or extensively remodel. It means there are dirrerent controls on how deep you can dig, with appropriate offsets for how high you can build.

Don’t you think it lowers the resale value of the house, though? It sounds pretty bad. Who would want to buy a house in a peat-settlement prone area? The house has been in our family for over 50 years, and a part of the City of Seattle for more than that, and the land use planner I’ve asked a few questions of via e-mail, Brennon Staley, says he doesn’t know of anything bad having happened there, and I don’t either. It makes me feel like they are neurotically looking for something to keep themselves busy with.

It appears to involve about 36 houses in the area of Manning and 35th.
