Mr. Transplantella managed to make it downtown to work on the bus today by walking from Lincoln Park up to California where he found another clot of lost bus passengers including a Metro driver on his way to work, and they all walked to Alaska Junction. From there a bus labeled ‘To Terminal’ took them down by the stadiums on 1st St.

It now appears that ALL METRO BUSES from downtown to west Seattle have been CANCELLED.

His plan for the return trip home is to take the ferry from downtown to Vashon, and then to the Lincoln Park ferry terminal.

    Thank god for the ferries!

Wow. That is creative. About 12 years ago when we had a snow dump like this I worked near Pike Market – all buses quit running, no cabs, so a bunch of of walked home – and I lived at that time near the Alki Bakery. It was a long walk with a laptop, but fun with other neighbors….

TammiWS how long did that take you???

That does seem like a very very long walk!

Where did you hear they were canceled? I know they are affected, but none?

Oh, and that aside, while this might be a longer (maybe, lol) route, much more comfortable! food, drink, bathrooms, heat :)

I work in Belltown. I left the office @ 2:00 and finally caught a standing-room-only 118, which was rerouted down Delridge, across Orchard and up Alaska toward the ferry. We were told that parts of Fauntleroy was closed.

I got off @ 35th and Alaska and walked home.

    2 hours from Belltown. Nice!

(Oh, so glad to be home…)

Here’s the Metro list of who’s canceled and who’s not. I just posted this in the ongoing home page coverage.

    http://transit.metrokc.gov/weather.html

Seemed to me like a couple of the buses that are NOT (yet) canceled are to WS (49? 56?)

“Where did you hear they were canceled? I know they are affected, but none?”

From the husband. He said that during his trip to the stadium the bus driver was busily talking to the Metro garage, and the message going out was that all west Seattle buses were being called in to terminal.

Unfortunately, nothing useful or current has appeared on Metro Transit’s snow and ice advisory page. Just some buses have magically disappeard off the schedule completely, and others which are not running are listed as on the road.

Metro Transit seems a little ~disorganized~ when it comes to disseminating current conditions and information on it’s website.

That link isn’t the snow/ice advisory, which is badly organized – the table’s hard to maintain. New link. And Metro does say even those buses that are running are running late.

Walking from central downtown (4th and Madison) to California and Admiral (via lower bridge) takes about 2 hours without snow.

Incorrect. Try and check out actual updates from MetroKC rather than ‘heard it from x who said y driver said z thing’

Many are closed, but some are still running. I just got off of one from downtown.

21 is running, 120 is running, etc

Please post facts, not hearsay, it doesn’t help, unfortunately :/

Yes, it was a good 2 1/2 to 3 hour walk. We went on First, then over to the waterfront, over the lower bridge, underneath and down Harbor Ave. With a group of people it didnt seem so bad though!

The thing was that time we didnt have much warning of snow and it just dumped at 2pm or so and everyone was caught off guard – buses not prepped at all….

I walked from Pike Street to the Admiral District in under 2 hours this afternoon using the same route as Tammi.

When I was under the West Seattle Bridge, a 54 came by and was turning onto Avalon. I also saw a couple of buses on 99 taking the West Seattle exit.

By the way during my walk along Alaskan Way, I saw a jogger out running! Crazy!

I am going to need to bus from WS to downtown tonight (Friday)…cross your fingers for me they will be running then! Normally would take a taxi, but they’re horrid drivers where there’s no snow on the ground. Ugh. But Dina Martina waits for no man (or woman in this case!
