goodgracesParticipantI’ve been seeing a great massage therapist on Queen Anne, but I sure would love to find an equally talented (but less expensive) one in the ‘hood. Am I a fool to hold out hope that I could find quality for $50/hour?

JanSParticipantMassage Envy would suffice…or the local La Vida Massage. I don’t know what they charge. I have been a massage therapist for 17 years. I charge $70/hr, which is average for this area. I have not raised my rates in over 6 years. Another angle would be to see if your health insurance covers massage, get a prescription from your doctor, and go for it…copays would have to be paid, but it could make the massage considerably less for you. Or go to a massage school clinic…results vary.

WSBKeymasterLaVida, a current WSB sponsor, offers a $39.95 “first visit” rate.
http://seattle.wa.lavidamassage.com/
Longtime WSB sponsor M3 Bodyworks has a $55 special for people in the food/drink service industry and prepaid packages that equal $56/hour, per its “specials” page:
http://m3bodyworks.com/specials.html
And I’d vouch for Jan’s note on rates, having been a massage-therapy client a decade-plus ago at a small, simple, one-woman practice that isn’t in West Seattle any more, and paying those rates way way back then.
Good luck in your search! – TR

WS PersonParticipantWhat does LaVida charge after the first introductory session?
December 22, 2011 at 3:34 am #743487
me on 28th Ave SWParticipantI love M3 Bodyworks. You can get the average price for a 60 minute massage down to $45 if you prepay (buy 8 get 2 free). It’s a big hunk of money, but brings the price down nicely. I haven’t had a bad massage once and I have been going every 2 weeks for several years now.

pshihoParticipantAt LaVida Massage your Introductory rate is $39.95 for a 1 Hr Massage Session. After your intro rate, you can get a once a month 1 Hr massage for $59.95 and then all other massages for the month are only $49.95 each. We have 16 Licensed Therapists to find just the right one for you!!

LisaParticipantI was pleasantly surprised with my first visit to LaVida on Christmas Eve Day. I was headed there with an open mind (didn’t want to set myself up for disappointment) and have to admit, it was better than I would have allowed myself to imagine!
Although efficient, the front of house staff felt more like a ‘gym’ experience (though not pushy at all on the ‘sales’ or looking for payment when I walked in the door)… but I must say my ‘practitioner’ and the facilities were great! Emily was very professional in manner and skilled in massage, the room (and restroom) were well appointed and comfortable.
I walked in there not expecting much… and walked out the door feeling very relaxed and proud for giving myself the ‘break’. Oh… and I’m no pushover… but I also walked out with a membership :) I certainly do deserve (and since I don’t buy magazines or drink take out coffee… should be able to afford) a massage a month for 60.00! And my husband is welcome to one for 50.00 a month if he chooses!
If I understood the ‘policy’ correctly. Since myself and my husband are listed on the membership… either of us can use the visits. We will be billed $59.95 per month for 12 months and if neither of us uses a month it will ‘roll over’. If we both want to go during the same month, the first visit is paid ahead on the membership and subsequent visits are 49.95 each.
I’m looking forward to my next visit with Emily! The first 5 min of my ‘foot massage’ was worth the entire price of the first time!!

pshihoParticipantHi Lisa…I noticed your post and wanted mention that although we would love to have you and your husband as a member for 12 months or longer, there is no obligation. You can cancel your membership at any time at LaVida Massage with just 30 days notice. You don’t even have to be a Member to enjoy a massage, although the prices would be slightly higher.
We are glad that you enjoyed your massage and experience.

WS PersonParticipantpshiho do you have 90 massages at LaVida and if so, what is the cost?
January 6, 2012 at 1:59 pm #743492
pshihoParticipantHi Wolfie…Our introductory rate for 90min session is only $59.95. I always get a 90 min massage myself. It really gives the therapist enough time to focus on a particular area that needs attention as well as enjoying a full body massage.

CooperdogParticipantTried out LaVida in January as I could not resist their $40 intro offer. On visit #3, I met my massage diva! The front desk staff, especially Anna, were pleasantly attentive to my comments after visit #1&2. I need a bodyworker who can ‘sync’ with my body/mind and tailor the experience accordingly. Marie is excellent at this key piece, as well as listening to my words and my body as she starts the session. Especially if you enjoy deep tissue work and/or myofacial release – spend 90 minutes with Marie!

pattileaParticipantOn Tuesday evening I went to Laveda massage in Jefferson square. It was not so good, it was really disappointing. I had asked for a deep tissue massage, and only got half deep tissue, I think she got tired. And I didn’t get a complete massage it was only like a 3/4 massage, and very disconnected. But the 50 min was up so I guess she was done. I have now called three times to speak with a manager,(she was not in that evening),to discuss this but still no return call. Also when I call it seems no one wants to give me their name or the name of the manager. They ask why do you want to know? weird!!! Has anyone else had a not so good experience?
March 13, 2012 at 7:23 pm #743495
Lavida MassageMemberPattilea I am so sorry about this incident. We have a few new policies in place in reqards to getting info to the mananger. This way notes can no longer get lost. I truely appologize for that. Our massages are a 50 minute hands on session. The first 5 minutes are for a consultation to see what’s bothering you and why your here today, and the last 5 minutes are to relax, re-dress, and to talk about any needed follow-up treatment. We get alot of positive feed back and would love for you to share the same experience. I would like to offer you a free massage and to try someone new. One persons best massage is another persons worst. We all have different needs and I’m confident we can match you up with one of our 20 therapist who will take care of you. Thank you for the opportunity to make it better. Give us a call for your free massage!!

m3bodyworksMemberThank you “me on 28th Ave SW” for the kind words. Our packages are the lowest in town with the 10 pack averaging out to $44.80 per massage. The 5 pack averages out to $56.00 per hour. It’s great deal for those that want a maintenance package.
And shame on WSB – LOL – You forgot to mention our Coupon on your Coupon Page. We have a coupon for $20.00 off any service via WSB Special. We have around 14 therapists to choose from and open 10 AM – 10 PM, 7 days a week.
And to meet demand here at M3 Bodyworks, we have hired 2 more people so the $75.00 90 minute introductory special is back for a limited time. Scott Hutsenpiler, who use to be with us, will be joining us again. Scott is credentialed with all the insurance companies. Laurinda Hager, another local of West Seattle started today and is offering the $75.00 special is not yet credentialed with the private health insurance but adds her pregnancy massage to our great team of therapists that do pregnancy massage. Most of our therapists are graduates of the Cortiva Institute here in Seattle.
Online scheduling can be found on our website http://www.m3bodyworks.com
Thanks again for everyone’s kind words. We love our WSB Friends.

westseamikeMemberIt’s been many years, but my wife and I both have nothing but great things to say about M3. Professional, great prices, communicates! It’s amazing how communication plays a part in a proper massage, but if you have conditions or areas that need work, you need to have good communication with them. So big thumbs up for M3. Besides, I typically fall asleep after the first 30 minutes, can’t get more relaxed than that.

WSBKeymasterI noticed the “Massage Envy” sign about a week ago (after a reader inquiry about a permit posting that turned out to actually be for a new Umpqua sign) and have been trying to get their corporate PR to comment. So far they haven’t. – TR
March 19, 2012 at 6:15 am #743502
JanSParticipantwestseamike. A client has to understand that we need to hear from them. If it feels good, tell us, if it hurts, tell us. We are intuitive, but we are not mind readers. And I always sit with a client before a massage to find out how their body responded to the last massage, and what is happening now. It’s not one size fits all :)
