It seems like every block is having one except for ours. Where does people get the information about having one for next year?

The police have the info and you can first of all volunteer as a block captain (at least that’s what they did last year.) This year my little block didn’t get organized — we did last year and next year we’ll be all over it. Main thing (as I learned last week) is that it takes more than a couple of days :-)

Thanks. we do have a block captain but it’s been about 4 years since we had a block party. (one and only time in the 9 years we’ve lived here)

Hi – all you have to do (and I’m sorry that you didn’t catch the reminders, we did publish it several times, but next year we’ll have lots of places on the front page where important stuff like that can sit for a LOONG time) is contact crime-prevention coordinator Ben Kinlow at the precinct. His page is linked from the bottom of our Crime Watch page. They had online registration and the deadline was this past Saturday, so you can wait till the last minute to do it! – TR

From my experience this year, it is nice to register so that closing your street is ‘authorized’, but what you make of a block party is really up to you and your neighbors.

Get fliers out, gather interested neighbors to help set up and donate supplies. Everyone brings snacks. We tried for music and entertainment but that didn’t come together. We did have a great time seeing neighbors we rarely get to talk to, and we met newer neighbors.

We look forward to putting together a block watch program and staying connected. We’ve also decided that once a year on a week night just isn’t enough.
