wingmeMemberwhen i arrived at work friday am (10ish), corner of 39th av sw and 109th (private residence; i am a self-employed gardener) i noticed someone lurking behind a jasmine hedge that separates my client’s backyard from the neighbor’s. i assumed they were doing a little yard work over there until i witnessed an unfamiliar guy jump the fence (only way out) between the two houses and headup thru the front to street level (109th). i ran around the other way and caught up with him before he got to his car. by that i mean i kept as much distance as possible because i’m a 5’2″ female confronting a fleeing i’m not sure what. i asked him if he had been in the back yard and he said yes because he was tryng to deliver something to Ivy, and asked me if Ivy lived there. I’ve been working that neighborhood for 10 years and am familiar with most of the peeps there…never an Ivy, which i told him. By then he had tossed a large plastic bag through the psgr door (i heard metal clanking) jumped in and sped away. wasn’t sure if he had loot or tools in there. police were very interested in all the info: white older model subaru with hatchback, yes i got the license number, tall very thin white guy with dark brown hair, full beard, wearing tan colored clothes and a distinctive hat. seems like i caused burglerus interruptus, arriving about the same time he did. he knew too much about aspects of those properties, putting random target way down the list. i’m sure officer lopez spd would love to hear from you if any of this sounds familiar. oh yeah…this was no kid/teenager. my guess is 25-35 yo.

miwsParticipantGood on ya, wingme!
Tell us though, didja chase after him with the power hedge trimmer, or the leaf blower? ;-)

HunterGParticipantWay to go Wingme!
With the amount of home burglaries in WS lately everyone that pitches in (hopefully without putting themselves in danger) helps a lot!
I always carry a digital camera with me, its been extremely helpful a few times with suspicious activity and shoplifters at my workplace.

JillParticipantHunterG, carrying a camera, that’s so true. People who have reason to get upset definitely do so when you start photographing their actions and license plates. All the better if you’re on your cell phone at the same time. It’s way better than shouting back at them. ;)

JillParticipantHey, are we not able to edit anymore? I wanted to add a disclaimer that I have not actually been the one with the camera myself. Also, “shouting back” is not accurate, since no one has ever been shouting at me in a burglary situation, lol. Sheesh, never mind… :) Can someone put me out of my misery and tell me where that nice little edit link went?
[um, ok, *edited* to add that I get the link on this post but not the previous one. huh?? Best not to try to understand I guess.]

GenHillOneParticipantJill – edit option is only live for a certain amount of time after you post (one hour?)
And yes, even looking like I’m on the phone, taking a picture, or writing down a license plate has worked for me!

ZenguyParticipantThe edit button is only there for a short while and then goes away.
