suzettesezsewMemberCan anyone recommend a good eye doctor? I’m tired of squinting!

AimParticipantThe optometrist at America’s Best in Southcenter (next to Ross and Best Buy) is FABULOUS. I have a rare disease that effects my eyes. Most eye doctors haven’t heard of it. Not only had she heard of it, she was up to date on recent studies and asked me about my treatment without attacking my specialist or doubting my pertinent medical history (the eye doctor in Westwood Village did just that!) She also got my prescription right, which isn’t always easy to do, as my vision changes due to dry eyes.
If you’re actually looking for an opthalmologist (MD who specializes in diseases of the eye) Sheldon Cowen at Minor and James is great.

suzettesezsewMemberThank you. Do you know of any in West Seattle?

sunshineParticipantI’ve been going to Dr. Gormley at West Seattle Optix, next to Easy Street at the Junction for years. He’s nice and his front office folks are really friendly and helpful. They even told me a way to stagger my glasses and contacts so I got more out of my benefit plan.

suzettesezsewMemberThanks Sunshine, I will check them out.

MargLMemberI just had an exam at Dr. Gormley at West Seattle Optix on Saturday. Haven’t been to the eye doc in a few years and decided to try the place based on positive reviews I read on WSB. I found him to be friendly and knowledgeable. I didn’t interact too much with the office staff but found they were nice, too.
Thru my own silliness I missed my scheduled appointment – tho’ it’d be nice if they gave a reminder call the day before I shouldn’t expect one. However, they were able to reschedule the same day for the afternoon.
The only oddness with trying to pick out glasses was I explained what I wanted and the person helping started showing me high-end frames that weren’t the styles or price I said I was looking for. Then I was passed off to 2 other office staff while I was looking and had to explain again what I was looking for. For such a small office space it feels like they have to juggle a lot of activities and each person doesn’t focus on one thing like desk person / glasses sales / doctor assistant… So, I can see where the poor reviews here or on Yelp might have come about.
Personally, I had a good experience getting an eye exam there.

suzettesezsewMemberThank you too, MargL. Much appreciated info.

bluebirdMemberAnother vote for West Seattle Optix. They were super nice. Glasses are great.
I tried America’s Best. The eye exam was all of 3 minutes. The Rx is wrong but I don’t want to deal with them any more. Kind of a bait and switch thing going on with there advertised specials and what you really end up paying too. Spent more than twice what I had planned. People were nice, no complaints with employees. The chain mentality was where things fall apart.

chefMemberI highly recommend James Simmons, D.O. at Eye5 Optical. His staff is fabulous and he is so smart and personable – the best eye exams and care I’ve ever had. I’m a diabetic and my eye RX changes ALOT! He’s not in W. Seattle, but well worth the trip to Southcenter near REI.

charlabobParticipantTwo more votes for West Seattle Optix — both the bob and the charla have been patients of Dr. Gormley since we moved to West Seattle in 1999. He and his staff are absolutely great! Last time they helped me pickout frames and thought of things I never would have. The prescription (line on the bifocals) wasn’t quite right, and they spent lots of time fixing it forme — at no charge.
Bob had been facing cateract surgery and found out it wasn’t necessary at all. A new prescription opened up a whole new world of seeing for him.

celeste17ParticipantI use Grady Hughes, he is with Swedish. I am not sure if he comes to West Seattle anymore. He does have an office at the Cherry Hill campus downtown. Very nice Dr.

JEMParticipantI have had good experiences at the Westwood village eye doctor, next to famous footwear/future liquor store location. Both for glasses and contacts.

angelescrestParticipantI did as well w/the West Seattle Highline Eye Clinic in the Westwood Village. Was satisfied with the exam. Nice selection of frames…and, when the lenses were scratched, they replaced them for free at their suggestion–and quickly.
That’s nice.

charlabobParticipantMater, did you try to work out differences with WSO? I believe that’s the WSB rule for attacking businesses.
Your experience is very different from ours and both of us are relentlessly picky. When something doesn’t work, they fix it. Can’t ask people to get it right the first time (this was my first experience with bifocals of any kind). But when they explain what’s going on and get it right, I can’t complain.
One of us went to Costco once and the other went to another highly-praised optical place in West Seattle — we both returned to WSO and were very happy we did.

WSACMemberI really like West Seattle Optix too. The doctor is thorough and the office staff are pleasant. They also have a good selection of frames, some of them are a little pricey but the are good quality and nice looking. For something I wear every day, it’s worth it.

MargLMemberI guess those of us that have been having good experiences at West Seattle Optix in the last couple months should post our current good reviews where these other folks are posting…

WSBKeymasterSpeaking of BTDT, the comments in this thread that have now been deleted were a rerun of a past thread here, deleted when it grew abusive. (All still in the site database.) Posting privileges were not suspended then but will be if there’s a rerun of that.
