Does anyone utilize the Childcare? Kids swim classes? Was it extra to add your (5 yro) kid to your membership? Is there typically openings in the Childcare and swim classes? I’m looking to join a Kid friendly gym. A pool is a HUGE plus! Tried the YMCA in the past but parking was such an issue that we missed the majority of classes…….no matter how early we went. :)

    Thanks!

I just started using Allstar few days ago; got tour with mom of 5yr old who also uses for her own child; the kids room is huge, lots of activities and toys, big windows, and right next to women’s only workout room; plus she pointed out that they took out computers with video games, to instead lead games/activities with the children (yay)

I don’t use the pool because even the smell of chlorine is overwhelming (I can smell it all the way out in the hall and inside women’s locker room, which is attached) pool is big/lots of classes

not sure how kid-friendly since I’ve gone on off hours; but part of the appeal for me, there are not a zillion children running around all over like at the Y; after working with young children, I need a place to get away from the playground atmosphere

and yeh, parking is super easy at Allstar; I had a free pass to the Y last winter that I never used, partly due to the parking nightmare there

The place is expensive, but the ladies and gentleman who watch the kids are super laid-back and really get to know your kids. I brought my kids there for three years and have no real complaints. They are realistic about what it takes for a child to adjust to new surroundings and don’t just plop them in front of a TV (although I have found it to be on a few times here and there…nothing too frequent, though).

    I would recommend it.

I have friends who go there and they seem to be very happy.

I take my two kids there (ages 1,3) and they like it. The staff at the Kidsclub is really great and they have lots of wonderful toys. The price is $3 per hour per child or $35 per month unlimited. They take reservations mornings and evenings but it is easy to get in even last minute. Afternoons are “walk in” and it is pretty slow at that time. They increase the staffing during the summer and school breaks. I think they have movie Fridays in which they put a show on for the kids but I don’t think it is every Friday.

I have used the pool with the kids and did not need to add them on the membership. We have gone to the toddler swim class (Friday and Sat) and free swim. They do offer lessons for kids.

While I was a member a few years ago I used the kids’ club a couple times. My elementary aged daughter thought it was a little boring but enjoyed playing with the littler kids who were there.

It was no issue to take her into the pool with me, but the pool was always SO cold that it wasn’t any fun for her. I did mention this to management–the pool was much colder than it had to be for fitness purposes–but didn’t ever hear back from them. Hopefully that issue has been corrected by now, especially if they are offering toddler swim classes, which they weren’t while I was there.
