pinefoxMemberThe paint job at 1374 Alki Ave. S. W. is something else!! What were they thinking? The green is hard to take. Kind of ruins the landscape.

ErikParticipantErik applauds the owners for stepping out of the sameness/blandness theme that the surrounding condos have adopted.

JoBParticipanti think i need to take a little drive around the point to check out all that green.. we’ll see if i notice it without the address:)

ZenguyParticipantI am all for out of the box, but think this color scheme is more suited…oh, I’d say Miami.
Jo, no need to drive by. Just plop the address into Google Maps and voila’. I am sure you will recognize the building even with the scaffolding in front of it.

inactiveMemberI like it.
Green is same chartreuse color as new, unfurling leaf shoots in spring. Check it out in April.
Blue is same steely color as water on cold overcast days.
Integrates perfectly with nature to me.

hammerheadParticipantwell it is no better the the salmon color it was before.
December 4, 2008 at 4:19 am #648691
JanSParticipantsurplus paint, perhaps?
December 4, 2008 at 4:24 am #648692
JoBParticipantmaybe i hit it at just the right time.. any excuse for a drive down the beach zenguy:) … right at dusk.. but i kind of liked it… a little miami perhaps.. or california.. but that’s what i think that stretch has become anyway.
thanks for the heads up because downtown at dusk from beach drive was spectacular.
December 4, 2008 at 5:27 pm #648693
GAnativeParticipantI LIKE IT! It’s not the same boring beige or tan like every other condo building on the beach.
I liked the previous color too. We used to call it the Miami Vice building…

JoBParticipantsee there you go.. a little tropical paradise right here in West Seattle… wait a month or two till it gets really grey.. you’ll appreciate it more:)

WSBKeymasterI drove by yesterday, noticed this, thought about taking a picture and then decided, nah, that’s not news … funny to see it turn up as a forum topic. Remember, anyone who does want to take a picture can now embed pix in forum posts as long as you’ve uploaded it somewhere (Flickr, wherever) so it has a URL.

JoBParticipanthey..
i bet they would really go for charla’s purple glowing balls.. and the flamingo tree ornaments…
December 6, 2008 at 12:23 am #648697
yumpearsParticipantIt was like WOW! ugly the first day. But three days later (I drive by everyday) it’s starting to grow on me…
December 6, 2008 at 12:34 am #648698
ErikParticipantonce you get used to that paint scheme come have a look at the new townhouse on Admiral & 60th.
The painters are just now taking off the tapings…wow…I count at least 7 colors.
December 6, 2008 at 2:55 am #648699
JoMemberThen….
after you look at the chartreuse and blue building,
then….
look at the townhomes at Admiral & 60th,
take a look…
at the g_dawful 4 townhomes on SW Stevens between 61st and 62nd (one block south of Alki Bakery, Starbucks, etc.) Bright redwood paint, silver corrugated steel whatevers, black circular stairways to roof patios.
These are absolutely the ugliest buildings and they’re right in my line-of-sight as I look out at the Olympics/water.
Sigh…….
December 6, 2008 at 3:52 am #648700
JoBParticipantJo..
maybe they will weather well…
or you could enjoy the view with sunglasses for a while :)

miwsParticipantMy vote for UGLY townhouses goes to the ones on the west side of California Av, where Guadalajara and those nice old houses used to be.

BonnieParticipantOkay, is that the building that used to be a peach color? I think my inlaws used to live in that building. Wish somebody had taken a pictures because now I have to go drive by!
December 6, 2008 at 5:38 pm #648703
JoMemberWhy so much of the Southwest US colors on buildings now – terra cotta, gold, etc.?
When did that start, because it seems that’s mostly what you see in new buildings. Like the bathhouse on Alki. I was really disappointed when I saw that paintjob.
So….that new blue and green building on Alki seems to be more Pacific Northwest to me. But then, I’m a native Pacific Northwesterner, and those are my favorite colors so I might be a little biased.
December 6, 2008 at 8:09 pm #648704
JoBParticipanti confess that i like the building next to true hardware in the junction that everyone points out to me as a monstrosity…
so i probably have no taste ;)
but many of the buildings that stick out as sore thumbs when they are first built turn out to be signposts for a whatever new style of architecture that develops next.
sometimes that’s good. sometimes not.

beachdrivegirlParticipantFunny story, I had read this post earlier in the week and didnt really think about it, but then my husband to be and I drove by today and the first thing he said was how hidious they looked. Made me chuckle since I had read about it hear first. And yes, Jo, I am with you the townhomes are a little bit much for me.
December 7, 2008 at 7:54 am #648707
grrParticipantMIWS…you are SO right!!! Not only are those condos hideous in their drab colors, but the TINY LITTLE windows!! I was so stunned, I had to walk thru one a bit ago on an Open House day
–
felt like being in a cave. I really felt sorry for the realtor showing the place. She did her best to put on a good face, but EVERYONE that was walking through was whispering the same thing:
“there’s no LIGHT in here, and the colors are really bad”. Pretty stunning.
December 7, 2008 at 4:34 pm #648708
monsignorsoapboyMemberIt’s a shame that you don’t like the colors of the condo on Alki, with all the beige and gray of all the other condo’s. It shows some spunk to live above the norm. Plus it is the only way I would be able to find it if was beige or gray.
