jissyParticipantWhile I appreciate everyone’s feelings on both sides of this coin, in light of what’s gone on this week at the 2007 Street of Dreams and ELF’s agenda, I’d caution anyone from putting actual street identifiers, addresses, and labels on peoples homes. As we’ve seen on this blog lately, you never know who’s trolling here and what their agenda is. I’m sure we’d all be shattered if something happened in our community, regardless of how you feel about someone building any type of home.
Not criticizing or judging by any means, I just at times try to wear the shoe on the other foot for a moment and consider everyone’s safety, espec. that of our West Seattle community.

JoBParticipantcharlabob….
i went shopping.. bought veggies and sausage to put in a mexican inspired hominy soup for supper. think i will make cornbread too. I am still simmering:(
there are some times i hate to be reminded of.. and we have had them both the last two days… vietnam and the horror that was and now ken starr and slimegate… both make me physically ill to think about.
Neither will be on most under 30’s radar… and not on the radar of some of them over 30… it is impossible to read about them and understand them viscerally.
just as it is impossible for today’s young women to understand what an insult Obama’s dismissive behavior is of Hillary right now… having never really experienced being marginalized that way…
I am trying to be gracious… i know you really do have to live this long to acquire the memories we have… but part of me would like to just shake people silly.
Making cornbread will generate more dishes…

He said it did not appear fake to him, because of the way the animal went slack by being held from the neck.
“To me, the sound on the YouTube clip sounded like a puppy in distress — the same sound we hear when the puppies come into the hospital,†Mickas said

addParticipantBlue Willow Catering (in the Junction) or Herban Feast (Admiral Junction) are both great caterers with extensive appetizer menus – mini crabcakes from Herban Feast are terrific (but a little expensive) and I’ve had great, unusual things from Blue Willow.

ErikParticipantThe ego is always looking for a way to validate itself by standing out (to be more special than others). Perhaps this was their way of saying “hey I bet this will get a million hits on Youtube!” Fame, whether positive or negative is what it’s after.
In lieu of doing something positive to find this fame, they’ll take the easier, darker route.

villagegreenMemberThe happy hour at Ama Ama is pretty awesome as well. 50 cent oysters, $3 sliders (steak, lamb, or fried oyster), $3 beer, and $5 Cosmos. Definitely not the ideal summertime location (since there’s no outdoor seating), but right now it’s great. I think it’s 4-6pm everyday.
March 6, 2008 at 12:53 am #616711In reply to: Going rate for babysitters
addParticipantI think it depends on the age of the bbsitter and the age/number of kids. We usually paid about $7/hour for teenagers to watch our elementary-school aged kids, closer to $10 for our “older” babysitters (21+).

flowerpetalMemberI agree with Salty’s particularly in the summer, but year round is great too… oyster shooters!
A few weeks ago I was at Telarico (did I spell that right?) for happy hour. Not a huge menu, but fun just the same, and a single slice of pizza which was huge was at a happy hour price.

AnonymousInactivebeachdrivegirl- that’s what I don’t understand (maybe that’s a good thing because maybe that means I’m not crazy), but how and why do people ever come up with the idea to do something like that? It’s kinda like the situation that was going on on this forum in the past couple of days (of course, not to the same extent); what kind of people get these ideas and think that they are good ones?
March 6, 2008 at 12:38 am #616538In reply to: The Marine and the Dog
AnonymousInactivers261 – Have authorities determined the video is fake, or is that your opinion? I’m really hoping it’s fake, but all the security surrounding this marine has me concerned that maybe it’s not.
My husband brought up the fact that the puppy doesn’t move, but it could just be scared. My problem with the authenticity of it was the distance. The sound (at least from the dog) seems fake to me as well.

andreaParticipantThat list is one was of the most in poor taste things I’ve read on here…Everyone dies. At some point it happens to us all. Thats life. Whether its from natural causes, a plane crash or some ill-begotten means, thats what happens in life. When you’ve been around as long as the Clintons have, a lot of the people they know will have died. I know a lot of people who have died, for goodness sake.

charlabobParticipantJoB — I have more dishes and a litter box if you need more relief.
I’m kind of horrified at the posting of that list at this point and the notion that it’s funny — first time I believed in the political generation gap.
I have two things to say:
since many of those people were victims of the relentless republican vendetta against everyone associated with Clinton, I, personally, would prefer to hold Ken Starr and his henchpeople responsible for their deaths. These people were killed by Ken Starr and the Republican Slime Machine.
Why did they leave off the allegation that the Clintons are intimately involved with the Columbian Drug cartel. First time I’ve seen that missing on this very same document.
NR, I’m sure no one on the Republican side will mind your reposting it — I’m a bit surprised that you want to, without at least some research.
Meantime, I’ll be looking into the history of the Bush family, starting with Prescott. I hope we all find it equally amusing.

charlabobParticipantNR, bingo — that’s exactly why I mentioned it — I watched it and then I read the day’s thread and I said something like “omigod”.
Is “Into the Wild” the Sean Penn produced outdoor movie? I hadn’t heard of it until the recent spate of ads, but I’ll look for it on your recommendation.
JoB — I figured the talking fish would be a hook for some people (I’m baaaad) and some others would watch in spite of them. They do kind of grow on you, and when you watch the director’s notes, you see their importance — for one thing, the movie would be much longer without them.
March 5, 2008 at 11:32 pm #615516In reply to: Go Hillary
villagegreenMemberThe point is, the video used in Clinton’s ad is from video that already existed (as shown in the post). That’s why you can easily compare and constrast between how the video originally looked and how it looked after it was doctored to appear in the Clinton ad. JoB, you are definitely very well informed and well spoken. You of all people should know that nothing depicted in a campaign commercial is unintentional.
The reason that so many people want to find fault with Hillary lately is that she has spent the last month desperately trying to smear Obama to save her campaign. She learned well from the Republicans that a large percentage of Americans respond to fearmongering and she used that tactic as a last ditch effort to save her campaign. And it worked!
Now it’s time for Obama to return the favor. She brought it on herself, so I don’t see why you seem so confused about the response.

March 5, 2008 at 11:13 pm #615515In reply to: Go Hillary
KayleighMembervillagegreen, that is despicable indeed.
And yet her supporters keep defending her. As if she’s more important than the party itself. She isn’t.
The idea that Obama will be picking his nose and twiddling his thumbs during important foreign policy meetings is a weak argument, and the Hillary campaign knows it. They’re playing a very dirty game, and it will come back to bite them in the end.
