villagegreenMemberJust wondering if anyone can give me an idea of the going rate for babysitters these days (3 month old infant). Thanks!

beachdrivegirlParticipantNot sure what the rate is or how often you would need a babysitter; but i love kids! And my niece and nephew are to far away so I would be happy to be an occasional babysitter for you at little or no charge!

momof3boysParticipantMy 14.5 year old son babysits two grade school age kids for about $5/hr. I hear it’s a VERY good rate! just as a data point

addParticipantI think it depends on the age of the bbsitter and the age/number of kids. We usually paid about $7/hour for teenagers to watch our elementary-school aged kids, closer to $10 for our “older” babysitters (21+).

BernickiMemberOur kids are 4 and 8. Most of the time we get babysitting for “free”–that is, we do exchanges with other friends who have kids. When we do pay, we pay a teenager $8 an hour. We also know a couple of professional nannies–women in their 40s–and when we use them, we pay $15 an hour. Sorry I can’t give you anything more specific for a 3-month-old–it’s been a long time since I had one! I’d say $5 an hour for a teen who is experienced with babies.

villagegreenMemberThanks everyone for the feedback! Very helpful.
brbeachdrivegirl – thanks for the offer! Actually, I posted this question for a friend who lives on Beacon Hill. However, we have a 2 month old ourselves and will definitely need babysitters sometime down the line. And with no immediate family in Seattle, we’ll definitely keep you in mind. Thanks!March 7, 2008 at 6:37 pm #616714
FranciParticipantWow..the going rate when I was babysitting back in the early 70’s was .50 cents an hour. !! :)

hollyplaceParticipantWe usually pay $10-$15 dollars an hour for a sitter and always use someone over 18.
