I’m tired of feeling like there’s different standards for different people.

I begrudgingly took my bags of home improvement waste to the dump & paid the dump fee and resented it seeing on a daily basis the piles of garbage left behind by RV campers and mini-encampments; if they can trash the area without consequence why should I go to the effort of lugging my crap to the dump?

I scoffed at the animal control officer who came to my door about my dog barking when the reason he was losing his mind (inside the house) was the late-June through mid-July illegal fireworks the city declines to address…. but sure send someone out to talk to me.

It’s not heartless to acknowledge that there’s a double standard in this city. There maybe many valid, noble-intentioned reasons for the policies that create this double standard, but it doesn’t change the fact that the city does enforce the laws on different populations differently. And no the irony of this situation, considering POC have dealt with this forever isn’t lost on me.

AMEN heartless.Chris Landry your view that it would be a big joke if fine as long as you excuse EVERY other person that ignores a law. Perhaps you can give us a list of the laws that are “jokes” and tell us how you would justify going after someone else that also said the law they were breaking was a “joke”.

To the owners of the seven dogs being walked by a middle-aged woman in North
Admiral, and to dog owners in general- please scrutinize who cares for your dogs. Walking seven dogs simultaneously is unmanageable and she demonstrated that well. The dogs were all well behaved but her communication skills gives them no way of knowing what she wants. She yanked their leashes and kicked one dog even though they were behaving very well. Neither are techniques encouraged in the professional world even if a dog needs guidance. A dog can’t understand why they are suddenly getting yanked, or kicked, especially when they are merely standing and it’s aversive to them. She is also putting them in danger when she can’t stop them far enough away from a curb to keep them out of the street because she’s got seven dogs. When hiring someone, ask what their training philosophy and background is and only hire free-free, positive reinforcement professionals who only walk a dog or two at a time. Notice how your dog greets the dog walker. If you see behavioral changes in your dog, ask a lot of questions.

Myself and lady I had the pleasure of meeting were watching our dogs enjoy an evening run in grass. We agreed what a joke it would be if either of us were cited for letting our dogs run around off leash in the park given the more serious offenses committed every day that go unpunished. Soon we were engaged in a conversation about Seattle’s impotence in dealing with homelessness, crime and corrupt politicians. We both shrugged regretfully at being among the few that seemed to think this way. Then we thought… what if we’re not as few as we think? What if those of us who were like minded could gather to vent and discuss these things? How many of us would there be? So this experimental post or message in a bottle of sorts is being tossed into the WSB’s ocean of opinions to see who else feels the same way and might care to step forward and begin a group interested in finding solidarity around these issues. Is there anybody out there?

I may end up doing that. The downside of having a unique car – a lime green Smart Car – is it’s remembered. So I would never chance leaving it there more than 72 hours. Also not the car you want to use in a bank heist, but that’s another post :)

You can leave it on the street. Would have to move it once, maybe twice to meet the 72 hour parking requirement. Here on Alki, especially on the side streets car’s can sit for 3 weeks before the meter maids notice.

Hi! Thanks for using the WSB Forums, a dedicated reader-to-reader section now in its sixth year. The “West Seattle Jobs Offered” section has become its most popular feature, and we are pleased to help local businesses find local workers by posting free “help wanted” items here.
For this section – a couple very important rules before you post anything, since unfortunately we have to delete rule-breaking posts without warning:
*THIS IS FOR JOB OPENINGS ONLY, NOT “JOB WANTED.” We hope someday to accommodate the latter, but for now, we can’t.
*THIS IS FOR WEST SEATTLE/WHITE CENTER/SOUTH PARK EMPLOYERS ONLY. We know people from West Seattle work all over the region. But because we are offering this as a FREE service (while others charge for job listings), we must keep it to LOCAL employers only.
*NO “BLIND” ADS. Please include your business’s name, and a contact name/e-mail (and/or phone number) in the listing. Job-seekers need to be able to connect with you directly, not just post a reply for all the world to see.
*ADDED 3/2/13: Reiterating, you must post your contact information. Job listings are not discussion topics – someone with questions needs to be able to contact you directly, off the site. If a listing does not include contact information, we will delete it.
If you have any questions about whether your potential post meets the rules above, you are welcome to e-mail us at editor@westseattleblog.com and we’d be happy to let you know. Good luck in finding great people! – Tracy & Patrick (WSB co-publishers)

Ok, sorry, one more. I know West Seattle is full of folks that made a downstairs basement legal by making the window into an egress window. Seems like there are a lot of shady companies out there that claim they do this. Anyone have a good experience with one that they would recommend? Thanks!!!
