Mask shortages have reduced supervisors at Harborview Medical Center to having Food Service 1 & 2 personnel work their kitchen shifts without masks.
Food Service workers participate mostly in the cleaning of kitchen equipment and utensils for subsequent preparation and delivery of meals, and clean all the used patient tableware. My wife returned home Sunday, 03/16/20, and informed me that they couldn’t provide her and all of her co-workers that fundamental PPE, which helps protect the patients, themselves, and each other, presumably until supply again exceeds room service and medical personnel consumption.
After Dow Constantine stated that we should universally regard ourselves and everyone else as infected with COVID-19, I find this troubling.

27% of WA state resident don’t have a driver’s license. Many can’t afford a car and some with drivers licenses aren’t able to drive safely, even if they do have a car. Public transportation may be the only way people can work and access food. The city should do no such thing.

Parking meters downtown should be disabled to encourage social distancing.
The city should encourage personal vehicle use and discourage the use of buses and carpooling during our present situation.

thanks – even a once a day update would be helpful. We’re working on a way for people to sign up on Nextdoor to help (in a more coordinated way than multiple posting threads) but half of West Seattle isn’t even on Nextdoor. I’ll see what Tracy says.
I hope you’re feeling better soon!

Hi Quinkygirl, if you’re committed to keeping this updated (things are being released so fast), maybe we could ask Tracy to make this an actual new Forums category. Would that be possible?

I believe that the reason for the first post had to do with the absence of adequate information from The Kenney (until after that post) and poor communication about the lockdown to relatives of vulnerable residents there. Legal rights that are part of a residential contract are not “disgusting”; relatives or residents should not be kept in the dark. It appears that a more professional response has been made, thankfully.

    Dear Neighbors and Friends,
I’d like you to urge you to consider carefully what you do in the next days and weeks. Closing the public schools (and other spaces) was a hugely difficult decision, made in the interest of the society as a whole. PLEASE RESPECT THE VOLUNTARY MEASURES of limiting gatherings and going out only when necessary for at least the next two weeks. If we DO THIS, we may still be able to limit the spread of the virus and experience, for the most part, only short-term hardships. If we DON’T do this, if we think this only applies to others and not us, we are putting ourselves and our healthcare system, our economy, etc AT RISK OF A LONG-TERM MAJOR CRISIS which will be very difficult to come back from. HEED THE WARNING NOW AND DO THE RIGHT THING. Let’s learn from the mistakes made in other countries.
IT WOULD BE A CRYING SHAME TO TAKE THESE MEASURES, INCLUDING CLOSING THE SCHOOLS (which does cause hardship for many families) FOR NOTHING. So PLEASE, PLEASE REALIZE THAT YOUR ACTIONS MATTER and STOP THE SPREAD NOW.

I find it rather disgusting that someone would hold that their “legal rights” as a “paying customer” takes precedence over the very lives of many vulnerable residents – who, I might add, are also paying customers. Nothing draconian here, just a reasonable and necessary response to a serious health crisis. If the Kenney did nothing and people died, they would be sued. They’re doing the best they can to keep people safe.

Given the high mortality rate in seniors over 70, I applaud The Kenney’s efforts to protect their residents and staff. I would much rather have an elder at The Kenney than Life Long.

But it looks like you’re right and The Kenney is doing something more drastic, restricting to one adult visitor per day in end-of-life situations and none for regular residents. I know when my grandmother had last rights it was a two person team from the church, myself, another resident of the home who knew my grandmother for 70 years, and a family friend who all ended up in the room for that. Would The Kenney have only let the priest go in if that happened tomorrow?

An hour ago, while visiting my father at The Kenney (on Fauntleroy), I was told in a rather brusque manner by the new head of nursing, that lucky I’m here today because, that as of tomorrow, 11 March, I would no longer be able to visit as the facility was going into “lock down” mode. Not even the front desk staff had been notified of this decision. I wrote to The Kenney’s director asking if caregivers and relatives of residents were going to be notified tonight by email (or telephone).

Does anyone else on this forum have a relative at The Kenney? It might be a good idea to call and find out how they plan to implement this draconian measure.

We all know that this is a stressful time calling for meticulous hygienic precautions. However, locking out key relatives, caregivers, and healthcare proxies (much less at such short notice) seems a bit extreme and our legal rights (as contracted, paying “customers”) need to be explored.

No. Also, the field is actually a Seattle Parks facility, not a Seattle Public Schools facility. Even when something’s happening on the field, the track around it remains open (we’ve walked during youth football events, for example). – TR

I know the public is allowed to use this field for walking, but are there restrictions for using it during the school day? I seem to only be able to find the open and closed hours online, but no mention as to whether there are other restrictions. I usually go there on the weekends so I’ve never had to think about it. Thanks!

If they’re putting them on trees using tape, tacks, or nails, this is detrimental to the trees. Please restrict your art to non-living surfaces where it can do no damage. Which reminds me, I need to get down to the Chaco Canyon Cafe block and remove the year-old++ yarn bomb that has been suffocating a tree on that block. The yarn is beautiful, but the tree is more so; it needs to breathe.
