charlabobParticipantThanks, LB! I must have typed something wrong (nah, that couldn’t be.)

JoBParticipantthanks sue.. i wanted to explore this further
this is a new twist on an old therapy…
i confess to trying it on anxiety during that program, (i had been posting here before i turned it on…) and saw some results.. so thought i should learn more.
any new tool in the toolbox is a good thing.

JoBParticipantI am done.
And i am going to tell you why i am done.
I am done because catlbob has just criticized me for only having opinions…
The thing i have appreciated about this forum is that unlike others on the net, it’s members are interested in community… in making this forum a virtual public square where members meet one another and discuss what is important to them.
Unlike many of you.. i have been stating my personal case for my candidate… which is what i believe to be the hallmark of political discussion… and is consistent with the intent of this forum.
In what i believed to be conversation and sometimes debate with my fellow democrats… i have relied on common sense.
In regards to the Obama/Clinton conversation, I haven’t trolled the web to find one more article backing up my points… Most of the links i have posted have been something i found digging deeper while diligently reading the links posted by Obama supporters…
when i have referred to an article it has been to inform… not to document my case. though you wouldn’t have thought so at the reaction i got.
that is not the case when it came to the McCain thread. I went trolling… and i didn’t have to troll far.
And please… catlbob… read any link of mine in reference to the democratic primary and feel free to make your case refuting that claim.
i fully expect you to and don’t intend to go back and defend anything i said or linked to..
I have become frustrated and angry on occasion.
But i have purposefully tried not to indulge in the endless round of he said she said that has been the hallmark of these threads.
I have consistently tried to get this thread back on a positive exchange of ideas.. to little avail.
There is no longer conversation here.. and the animosity this is breeding has leaked into other threads… with an honest apology at offense refused twice in a seemingly innocent discussion about trader joes that ended up touching on racial prejudice… which by the way is alive and well on all sides of the fence here.
I apologize to Hillary supporters who have been glad that someone was willing to stand up day by day and defend their position. But there is no longer any point in engaging in this increasingly acrimonious and unproductive conversation.
I don’t ask any of you to stand up and take my place against this kind of abuse.
I am not leaving this conversation because i am unable to defend my own position.. or that of my candidate.
I am leaving this conversation because participating in it any longer would be inconsistent with my own personal standards.
For many of you, Obama’s speeches may be the first time you have heard those messages.. but i have been living them since my teens… and i actually believe those messages worth standing up for.
I hadn’t intended to make this decision when i came back to the keyboard. I followed the latest links and was going to reply to them.. but catlbob’s post stopped me dead in my tracks.. and i had to ask myself what i was doing here.
I have not liked the answer.. that i have been contributing to the divisiveness that is the hallmark of this primary.
Contrary to what many of you might be thinking as you cheer at winning over JoB.. i do not believe that Hillary should withdraw from this race. I have not stopped supporting my candidate. I sent her more money today.
I am more sorry than you know that i am unable to provide a voice for my candidate.. but i refuse to contribute to this acrimony… and there is no way it can be anything else without respect for the opinions of others.
I have patiently tried to respond with common sense.. but when even that is trivialized and becomes a liability… any opportunity for conversation is over.
It’s been fun.

andreaParticipantHaving opted out of posting any thoughts for the life of this threadthus far , I feel obligated to reiterate what catlbob said about NewRes…she is a genuinely nice and kind individual, and her apology in my opinion was unnecessary, though very classy nontheless…Kaliegh, I have never met you, nor do I think I ever want to based off of your posts in any thread on this blog…you are just plain MEAN and RUDE…and not even close to sarcastic enough…
March 26, 2008 at 4:58 pm #615645In reply to: Go Hillary
JoBParticipantcatlbob.. if Fox is so busy helping Hillary and the other networks are picking up on it.. can you explain why her her coverage has been consistently 60-70% negative throughout this campaign?
Check Obamas … i don’t hink his even approaches that this past week or so.. even with Rev Wright.
And then take a look at McCain’s.
Yes, Fox news does drive the stories.. and perhaps you should cast a critical eye where they are being driven.
enough of this drivel…

beachdrivegirlParticipantWhat about wood refinishing? I had a nearly new consule table in a black finish and I had one of those scented oils with reeds spill all over it! Needless to say the scented oil was basically paint thinner and it completly removed the black finish off of the talbe; anyone know of a place to go to refinish a talbe?

March 25, 2008 at 6:41 pm #619501In reply to: Rant – WS Farmers Market
KenParticipantI never thought of taking my dogs to the market.
For one thing oldest is a butter thief and will snag anything edible off the table or counter if he thinks he is unobserved. The 100 lbs “puppy” would happily turn over a table to get it’s contents within eating range. That’s why they “own” the back yard. They will not be going to the market or any other place that sells food.
Private businesses can set any rules they like and private individuals can always vote on those rules with their feet.
However the retractable leash is the one item most misused by dog owners in public places by the “oblivious” people who, even without their dogs, wander trance-like in public places and businesses blocking aisles with their carts, standing and chatting in doorways and crossing streets without looking in either direction.
Seattle is full of them and I suspect even some of you might recognize yourself if you look back over your weekend strolls.

SueParticipantWe are a family of 2 and we bought a freezer for our basement – makes those trips to Costco and Trader Joe’s last a while. And the freezer didn’t cost a whole lot either at Home Depot.
Costco isn’t really bad if you go first thing when they open on the weekend. And watch what holidays are coming up because people will be inclined to go and stock up and it’ll be more crowded.
When we go down to Trader Joe’s in Burien, we make a circuit of stops to make it worth our trip. First we go to the mongolian grill right next door for lunch. Then we go to TJ’s and do massive shopping. We bought some of their insulated bags to keep stuff cold for a while, and then head over to Fred Meyer and/or Albertsons and do whatever shopping we need there.

JoBParticipanti didn’t tramp so far.. but i have walked my dogs in a different green area every day since the alert… and talked with people.. and i haven’t met anyone who has seen the dog either.
this lost dog has a special place in my heart… i too adopted an abused akita once.. and she ran away more than once before she realized we were home.
with a smaller akita.. you really do have to visit the animal rescues regularly.. all of them… because a 50 lb dog almost never gets listed as an akita…
also.. if he was still wearing the abusive owner’s tags.. there is a good chance he will simply be returned to that owner…
You need t contact all the shelters with a pic and the abusive owner’s name and the circumstances that caused you to get the dog… so they are looking out for him.
I hope you find him.
charlabobParticipantI believe the point is that we believe independents and some republicans are likely to vote for Obama in the general election, so there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking them to make sure the candidate of their choice makes it to the general election.
I also believe a major difference in the Clinton and Obama campaigns is transparency. Anyone who believes the Clinton campaign is not doing exactly the same thing is, at least, naive. And anyone who believes the Clinton campaign didn’t offer Richardson pretty much anything he wanted to endorse them or remain neutral is equally naive. And I’m being kinder than I feel by saying “naive.”
I hope Richardson expressed interest in the position of Secretary of State. I assume Albright has it sewn up if there’s another Clinton presidency and I would not like to see that.
I began this election season as a DElighted Edwards supporter. When he dropped out, my head said Obama and my heart said Hillary. Every time people asked, I said, “I support Obama now — and every other word I said was in support of Hillary. I was, as JanS says, the ultimate mugwump — and my wump was rapidly tumbling to the Hillary side. It drove the bob half of charlabob nuts.
I have become a passionate Obama supporter because I listened to him (and read what he said and mulled over exactly what Clinton *did*, rather than what fuzzy libs like to think they remember he did.)
90 percent of my support for Obama is based on what I know of him and what I expect from him. 10 percent is based on what I’ve seen from the Clinton campaign and its supporters. Sadly, I know what to expect from them too, and I don’t like it.
BUT I WILL WORK FOR CLINTON, IF SHE’S THE NOMINEE, AND I WILL VOTE FOR HER. (Somehow I feel as if I have to make that my signature, so no one misses it.)

ShibaguyzMemberThanks for the heads up lowmanbeach. We also looked for the listing on craigslist and it has another picture of him:
http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/pet/610646640.html
Remember this is a Japanese Akita so he is smaller than the Americanized breed. Yes, he looks a LOT like a Shiba Inu (we have two Shiba Inu), especially is his craigslist picture, but he’s a LOT bigger at 50lbs.
I think we’re going to head out here for a little while and see if we can spot him. If we go walking around that area with our two Shibas, he might be more inclined to come to us. We’ll see what happens.

charlabobParticipantYou guys don’t know what you’re missing: I just found out that least four of my brilliant tomes in the Obama thread never made it beyond my own brain and fingertips and screen. That explains why I didn’t hear from JoB about some of ’em :-)
I *thought* they appeared in the forum and just not on the list, since they do for me. But I show 158 posts in the Barack thread and catlbob (who’s sitting in the other room) shows 152. Barack seems to be the only forum affected.
WSB, does your spam filter have a whitelist facility? That’s a quick and dirty way around it. I gotta say, as a professional breaker of software (tester) this is a most intriguing bug.

Waiting for a callback from the person who left me that message, but I wanted to check here if any of the organizers had confirmed with him it was OK to have a group there Monday night.

beachdrivegirlParticipantDenny-
here is a comparison of the two canidates. I apologize it is a comparison i found useful and is pro-obama. if someone else likes they are more than welcome to also post that here. THis site strictly goes through the issues.
My problem with Hillary and NAFTA is that she flat out lied to the people of Ohio. She had hosted an event that was pro-NAFTA just a few years before & then come election ’08 she changed her view for her own good. That is wrong.
Obama and race is in nearly every heading that there is about Obama these days and you know what he handled it like any true leader would. He grasped what people were saying, and held a conference to address the issue. If clinton and her campain really feel like the election is facing “sexism” maybe they should do the same. My opionion of her me-me-me attitude is the fact that she endorses McCain over Obama, will not let it be that is not going to be on the ballot come November, and consistnetly has wanted to change the rules of the election in favor of herself for the past 4 months. And infact, I get my news from the Daily Show/Colbert report which i think was mentioned earlier as having viewers with more correct answers on current issues affairs than Fox New viewers. .

I can only imagine ths spam you get — but I’d rather not think about it.

March 20, 2008 at 4:08 pm #619143In reply to: Soup recipes
beachdrivegirlParticipantcream of asparagus soup
ingredients:
1 medium shallot; minced
¼ oninion, minced
1 clove garlic
1 teaspon fresh thyme ( I cheat sometimes & use dried…)
1 tablespoon butter
2 lbs green asparagus
2 cups chick. Broth
½ cup heavy cream
1/8 cup parm chees.
a splash of lemon juice, salt, and pepper to tase.
directions:
Cut stalks and all asparagus into ½-inch pieces.
In a heavy saucepan cook the shallot, onion, garlic, thyme, salt & black pepper in the butter over moderately low heat, stirring, until the shallot is soft. Add the asparagus and the broth, and simmer the mixture, covered, for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the asparagus pieces are very soft.
In a blender purée the soup in batches until it is very smooth, Whisk in the cream, until it is the desired consistency, and add the lemon juice, parmesan, salt and pepper to taste.
March 20, 2008 at 4:57 am #618438In reply to: McCain ?????
JanSParticipantand…I suppose the brilliant Ms. Hillary never , ever had anyone..oh, say..Mr. Hsu, rub elbows with her.
I think what I’m trying to say here is…come on…if you’re going to jump down Obama’s throat like that, make sure that the person you’re supporting is lily white clean. You give her the benefit of the doubt, because she’s been “hounded” for the last 20 years…yet…you’re quick to jump on him. What are you going to do, really, if he does end up being the Dem candidate. I have no problem supporting or voting for either one…they’re both imperfect politicians. But from where you’re going on this, I really don’t think you’ll be able to give him your support….and BDG is right…we need to be focusing on not letting McCain be elected…
