West Seattle is in multiple areas of airspace restrictions, especially Boeing Field, less than 5 miles away. We are literally in their traffic pattern. Within this area, there is a significant amount of low level traffic in addition to air ambulance flights into Harborview Trauma Center’s helipad. It’s not just a orivacy issue. It’s a serious safety issue.

Per the FAA:
For flight near airports in controlled airspace, drone operators must receive an airspace authorization prior to operation. Airspace authorizations come with altitude limitations and may include other operational provisions. Controlled airspace and other flying restrictions can be found on our B4UFLY app.

These streets are temporarily closed to thru-traffic, likely until parking lots start opening up again in Phase 3 of the Safe Start Plan, and support social distancing to and at destination parks.  Thru-traffic is people driving from outside of the closure to a location beyond it. Local access is for people going to a destination within the closure, to access their homes, relatives, jobs, etc.

As a local business owner whose patrons use the surrounding streets to access my business, and as someone who must also park on these streets that my taxes go to pay for, I find your passive aggressive & continuous note leaving ridiculous and uninformed (see above). Do you have so much free time on your hands that you can’t think of anything better to do? Because believe me, if you need something productive to do with your time, I can send you a list.

Second, you’re creating more litter with your misinformed measures as I have seen these letters strewn in the street; I have thrown them away for you. Your misplaced sense of entitlement is all around silly, quite annoying, and creating a mess. Find a better use of your time.

Show your support for #Black Lives Matter! The “Respect” quilt project: allies at work
The “Respect” quilt is a result of Black and white creators working together to honor Black women’s beauty, history, and resilience.
The first one, underway, is being created by a former teacher, a white woman, for a former student of hers, a Black woman in South Bend, Indiana. When in her class at age 15, the young woman wrote and illustrated a short story, “Overcoming Adversity,” which stayed in the mind of her teacher all these years. (Discussions are afoot about revising it and publishing it with Honey Girl Books and Gifts LLC.)
The “Respect” quilt features African fabrics (waxes and Ankara cottons), Afrocentric fabrics, such as Harlem Toile de Jouy designed by Sheila Bridges and the striking AphroChic silhouettes (both in Brooklyn, NY), and other fabrics purchased from African-American business women across the USA, including Our Fabric Stash in the Pike Place Market (Seattle). It is the intention to celebrate and honor Black womanhood that we all share.
The quilts are pieced together in blocks with symbolic messages about the joys and pains of life; each has two pockets on the front (one flannel shirt and one Levi’s jeans) and one on the back made of Levi’s jeans with patches on it. The three patches shout out our political message: “Respect existence or expect resistance”; “Malcolm X”, and “One Love” (from a Bob Marley song). These quilts are a message of sisterly love, a reminder of the work to be done, and a call for unity among people.

Hello West Seattle Community,

I’ve set up this on-line petition to urge Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) to seriously consider an immersed tube tunnel (ITT) similar to the system that supports BART and many other underwater thoroughfares worldwide. Per a presentation from local engineers, the ITT solution has numerous benefits including lower cost, faster construction, a good safety record, longevity, and earthquake resilience.

From what I understand, SDOT is focused on repair or replacement of the bridge and may have “tunnel vision” – pun intended! It’s unclear what political and business pressures will influence a decision; we must avoid another lengthy, costly bridge option unless it’s the only solution. Proper evaluation of an ITT requires SDOT to bring in outside experts and think outside of the box. We MUST keep up the pressure on them!

On September 27th, I will submit this petition to our Councilwoman Lisa Herbold who can bring our collective voice to the SDOT bridge replacement task force of which she is a member.
