I know we’ve been having a months-long discussion of what is the best doughnut in Seattle. See this forum: https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=4324

But I was wondering how many people would agree that West Seattle has a dearth of good doughnuts, besides the supermarket variety? We have the best cupcakes, the best French pastries, and the best bagel selection in the city, but at least my family is tired of the trek east to get a doughnut.

(Side note: Original Bakery batch size seems geared to their immediate neighborhood, they always seem to be out of most of their doughnuts by the time we get there from Alaska Junction. And we have to drive there–would prefer a shop within walking distance of Alaska Junction, and for us, even the Admiral District is considered walking distance, maybe even Morgan Junction…)

So, who would support a campaign to bring a Top Pot into Alaska Junction/Admiral District/Morgan Junction in the future?

There was a discussion not long ago which has been closed relating to a strange hum people have been experiencing in the area. This caught my interest as I too have been suffering from the hum for several years now. What really peaked my interest is a commonality we share – Nucor Steel.

I am on the east coast and have been subject to the noise pollution that Nucor puts out since they upgraded their facilities to increase the output, though the last year has been the absolute worst, with the exception of the last several months of it being generally tolerable. Today however, it seems to have come back with a vengeance. I cannot begin to describe the horrible effects that this noise has, lack of ability to sleep being the most troublesome. It’s like living with a transformer right up next to your ears.

I would love to continue this discussion with others. I’m sure most here may not have even considered Nucor as a possibility (it took me a few years to come to the conclusion that they were most likely responsible.)

I am hoping that by sharing enough information we can work together to force Nucor to reduce the noise to a more accceptable level. I am convinced that they are responsible.

I would love for others who are bothered by this to chime in. I have more to contribute in terms of Nucor’s handling of my complaint, and would be happy to share it.

Got this from Furry Faces Foundation. Tonight’s fundraiser is at Abbondanza – they’re still working on details of exactly what will be transpiring at the event.

Elvis recently had an accident that resulted in a serious injury to his left hind leg.

Brittany, Elvis’s owner, contacted Animals First Foundation for advice and

assistance:

‘My name is Brittany and I have a small Chihuahua named Elvis,

The other day my friend was playing around with my dog and Elvis fell

wrong from a short height and tore all the ligaments in his foot. A

few friends recommended that I contact you in the fact that I have

absolutely no source of income to get him the surgery that he needs to

heal. I’m totally freaking out about this because this is my heart, he

is my life and he doesn’t deserve to be in pain like this. Could you please

point me in the right direction to get the help I need? I haven’t even

found a place to take him for the procedure yet, any information

would be fantastic’.

Animals First Foundation, (AFF), a new West Seattle based 501(c)3, sent Brittany to

South Seattle Veterinary Hospital for a second opinion. Ends up Elvis’ joint is dislocated, along with some ligament tearing. Corrective surgery, at a cost of $1,800.00, is required as he cannot be left in this condition. Next step, AFF directed Brittany to Furry Faces Foundation for financial assistance and fundraiser advice.

In collaboration with South Seattle Veterinary Hospital, the ‘Elvis Anderson’ fund has been established to help cover the cost of Elvis’ surgery and rehab. Although Furry Faces Foundation can assist with some of the cost, Elvis is hoping those that know him and the greater community can help him with the balance. If you would like to donate, here’s how:

1. South Seattle Veterinary Hospital can take credit/debit cards over the phone. Their number is 206-242-8338.

2. You can go in person to South Seattle Veterinary Hospital, located at 11033 1st Avenue South, Seattle, 98168 (just southeast of White Center)

3. Watch for announcements of fundraisers that Brittany will be coordinating and hosting.

If you are posting a rant about a business, YOU MUST SAY WHAT STEPS YOU TOOK FIRST TO NOTIFY ITS OWNERSHIP/MANAGEMENT. If you took those steps and still want to tell the world, fine, but this is NOT the place to come just to rag on a business without having let them know directly.

If you tried but could not get through – include that info, because that’s a helpful part of your story.

Because the question was asked in another post about another hit-and-run incident (what is UP with people out there?) I thought I’d mention that we’re still looking for the loser who totaled my car and injured me.

We’re looking for a dark green 1994 Land Rover, with a light-colored real-wheel cover, with the license plate 68# WQ#. (I’ve been asked by WSB editors not to give the entire license plate.)

Though we have the plate, the car and driver’s license are registered under fake addresses.

Guessing this guy either works or lives in WS because we found out he actually bought parts to fix his car here.

If you do spot the car, please don’t approach the driver, just call 911 and report a vehicle that is suspected in a hit-and-run case.

I like to think there’s a special spot in hell for people like this guy.

Whatever they are, as we have reported here repeatedly, they are planned for many streets around West Seattle and the rest of the city, including the stretch of California through Gatewood where (as we previewed last week) they have now been painted. Also looks like some lane realignment was done, which I’m going to ask SDOT about.

Yes, the Alki Car Show is EXCEPTIONALLY difficult to get info regarding … last year we chased a whole lot of leads before finally finding someone in White Center somewhere who had some role in promoting it but we still never got formal confirmation till the day it actually happened … This year, thank heavens, someone sent me a scanned flyer last night that confirmed it’s Saturday 7/18, 8 am-5 pm. I added it to the Events calendar earlier today.

As for the Junction Car Show, it has been on the Events calendar a LOOOOOOONG time. We are co-sponsoring it again this year and we published the date announcement in February:

I don’t know personally how much it would affect junction businesses as I’m mostly there during the times that paid parking is free anyway. (after 6pm and on Sundays). If I go on Saturdays, I never see a spot on the street available anyway, and head to the ‘free’ lots. maybe now, there would be more opportunities to find parking on the street Saturdays, and I’d propbably pay for it. the pay parking doesn’t keep me out of Capitol hill when I want to meet a friend for lunch.

and if the revised route 50 is ever funded yes I would probably take the bus to the junction.
