West Seattle holidays: Eastridge turkey giveaway November 19th
Eastridge Church has announced its annual turkey/groceries giveaway. It’s donating 1,000 turkeys and bags of groceries, split between its two campuses here in West Seattle and in Issaquah. The giveaway has drawn long lines the past few years and will start at 9 am Saturday, November 19th, at the 39th/Oregon campus.

Hey, hey, hey. This is the 5th year Furry Faces Foundation has had a lane at the Turkey Bowl. In support of The Turkey Bowl, Furry Faces is collecting healthy pet food, especially cat food.
Our local food banks continue to tell us that they run consistently run out of cat food, hence the emphasis on cat food donations. If you would like to donate pet food, it can be dropped off at Pet Elements; 6701 California Ave SW in the Morgan Junction, and we will transport it to the Turkey Bowl on Saturday evening.
A big thank you to the Beer Church for once again, organizing this community event.

Kayo – bummer that this happened and as noted above you can request a hearing, explain the situation and most likely get reduced or dissmissed. Hassle to do but worth the time. As for faded hidden signs Celeste mentioned above – take pictures and show the judge they will wave the ticket and have the issue addressed (at least in my case it was – no parking “red” strip barely visible and sign hidden in overgrown bushes).
As for the car that has been parked poorly on the street without moving for over a week report it online (https://web1.seattle.gov/police/AbandonedVehicles/Present/AbandonedVehicle.aspx) and they will come out and “give them a warning” notification. If it remains report it again and they will either ticket or tow it. Vehicles such as motor homes, boats, cars not in use (I’ve noticed several cars with covers in my neighborhood being stored on the street)should be stored on your property (alley, parking pad, etc.) or you need to make arrangemenets for offsite storage. There is no reason just because you purchased extra vehicles or personal recreational equipment they should be parked on the city street when not in use. Vehicles over 80 inches (such as RVs, boats, tractor trailers and larger trucks) from parking on most city streets (any street except those adjacent to Manufacturing or Industrial zoning) between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m.) If you can afford to buy then plan to park and pay.

…Ms. Toledo’s credibility is suspect and thus anything that she says or does (or that happens to her) will be viewed with a certain amount of skepticism.
Besides that, breaking into a home and *NOT* stealing any computers, televisions, electronics, money, jewelry, burr grinders (because burr grinders are awesome!), etc. but stealing a puppy…that’s weird by itself.
I say that as someone who might’ve voted for Ms. Toledo when I first moved here, when I didn’t really know the candidates as well as I should have. :(

And yes, we have verified there WAS a burglary reported to police there at noon yesterday. The family sent a photo of the dog a while later, then said they didn’t have clearance to use it because they needed approval given its status as a foster dog … they have since re-sent the pic and I’m adding it to the story.

We are excited to have her As many of those who commented mentioned, we rely heavily on volunteer involvement in order to provide troops for girls. We wouldn’t be where we are as a council without the more than 12,000 volunteers we have across Western Washington. That said, we typically have more girls interested in joining a troop than we do spots available. Therefore, if you want a particular troop and that troop is full, starting a new troop is the best way to ensure your daughter can have a troop experience. Two volunteers and five girls are needed to start a new troop. New volunteers are provided a comprehensive orientation, support and program guides to make leading a troop easy, rewarding and fun. Choosing to purchase a membership for your daughter won’t ensure that she is guaranteed placement in a troop, but it does guarantee her access to all the wonderful programs we have. We’ve got camp, series, events and travel opportunities that can really expand her horizons, if a troop isn’t something accessible at the time. It does take some effort to get involved in any organization – I spent the past half an hour on the Girl Scout website – looking for information on whom to contact and how to get started in scouts, researching info for anyone interested in starting a troop there are new leaders training sessions on Nov. 13th & Nov. 17th – all events including “welcome nights” which is what I think smokeycretin9 and her daughter attended. The Getting Started Workshop provides new leaders and assistant leaders the basic knowledge needed to get started with a troop, including the parts of a meeting, activity suggestions, where you can go for help, and information about safety and finances. This workshop must be completed before meeting with girls. Before taking this workshop a new volunteer should have completed their application process and taken the Online Orientation. The Getting Started workshop is a prerequisite for the Leadership Essentials workshop.
