Well…I guess my point is well made…nobody knows what happened to the dog, but some organization is willing to potentially waste $2500 to never see someone prosecuted for likely “losing” their dog.

Followup: In starved-dog case, investigators ‘not ruling anything out’

Pretty disappointing that these resources and the publicity isn’t being redirected in a more positive way, especially since one person “losing” their dog would never be prosecuted…and even if they had intentionally starved the dog, it wouldn’t be prosecuted.

But the city had no problem killing the dog for the public’s benefit…oh wait…I mean…er…because it was the most “humane” thing to do.

What a bunch of fricking BS and a waste of money.

That would be the Super Deli Mart – which has gotten a decent amount of press coverage (written up in the Atlantic, even – the article explains the alchohol licensing that Min acquired for the store) See the link to the WSB story below for more info.

Nice to have such a selection of beers nearby.

They actually celebrated their 3rd (I think) anniversary this past Sunday with a BBQ. I went by and the crowd (and rain) kept me from stopping to check it out. Looked like plenty of people were enjoying themselves, huddled under the canopies, despite the rain.

We published this on the home page yesterday – it was sent to media by Seattle Animal Shelter.

Reward offered to find animal abuser responsible for dog’s death

It was late in the day so my contact there (the director) was gone but I will be following up Monday morning. In 20+ years of working in the news media in this area, I have seen relatively few alerts like this, and knowing what hoops the city, for example, generally has to jump through to send info to the media, I feel fairly confident they have good reason to believe it’s not just a case of a long-on-the-loose dog that couldn’t find food … we’ll see what they say when pressed for followup.

We used Harrah’s for our brakes a few months back, based on recs from the forums. They were wonderful! Took the time to explain what was going on with them, showed me the old parts (even though I didn’t ask), and chatted it up about life in general. Super trustworthy guys. They only take cash on your first visit though, and then check or cash 2nd visit on. No plastic. Can’t say if they were cheaper than anyone else. They matched their estimate pretty closely though.

Here are a couple other threads about them:

FYI, the “mission” solicitor may be legit. In main-page comments on a crime report last week, someone mentioned a guy they suspect of casing. They had photographed him, and police showed up in the discussion, saw the photo, identified the guy as a legit charity solicitor. The entire discussion unfolds here, albeit with some angst over a photo link that wasn’t publicly viewable:

I wonder if it’s This guy?

I believe there’s at least one other forum Thread, on what seems to be the same guy, but those didn’t come up doing a quick, onsite search on “angry guy”. Also may be the same guy with a “Peace” sticker, or whatever, on his car?

We’ve had Thai delivery from The Thaitan. I don’t eat there often as my husband isn’t a fan of thai food, but I do enjoy them: https://westseattleblog.com/thaitan-restaurant-the

The only chinese food in WS that delivers (to my knowledge) is Yen Wor, but I wouldn’t call it good chinese food. But if you’re interested (or desperate): https://westseattleblog.com/yen-wor-village

Maharaja delivers Indian food, although I haven’t had delivery from them. I don’t like them as much as Royal India, but RI doesn’t deliver. https://westseattleblog.com/maharaja-cuisine-of-india

Nickelsville has a new resident tinkerer.. who is engaged in a partnership with Peggy to build sustainability into Nickelsville.

this is his prototype for collecting rainwater for use in camp. supplementing potable water with collected rainwater will help ease the water shortages that occur far too often.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150814122289089&set=o.393464617347821&type=1&theater

I have talked with Will a couple of times now.. and the last time he asked me if i knew any contractors or fellow tinkerers who might have access to cast off or cast aside materials.

he is willing to dismantle dead kitchen appliances to retrieve usable electrical parts and is looking for things like small unused pieces of piping or wiring or …

right now he is working on this rainwater collection system.. but he is also working on a windmill prototype for charging cellphones and batteries in camp and …….

i told him that West Seattle is full of fellow enthusiasts who have been hoping to find a kindred spirit at Nickelsville.

You can find him yourself at Nickelsville.. just walk in and ask for Will. His prototype rainwater collection device is next to the front fire.

Or you can contact me at joanne at brayden dot org and i will pass along his cell phone number.

Someone once wrote and read me the riot act for posting a lost/found pet announcement with a photo of a skinny animal that they thought looked near death. Ever since, we have tried to keep closer watch to make sure no one who seemed to be in need of attention beyond “whose pet is this?” crosses the photo transom. I have just posted this notice about a cat whose finder – it actually showed up in a neighboring yard – says it has a bit of blood on its nose and seems to be just sleeping, not interested in moving. I advised her to try the Animal Shelter – since she is worried it’s hurt or sick – is there any other advice you would offer? Thank you – TR

Weird that someone would flag this sale – they have posted there sales on here for over two years – see history of poster – https://westseattleblog.com/forum/profile/organicplease.

This sale is at a residence and they sell great plants for great prices. It is not a “commercial” venture from what I saw when I went there and bought plants. Your policy states they can post about a deal, “sale” or free offer in the Freebies, Deals, Sales section (bonafide major price cuts on merchandise/services, not just consultations – we reserve the right to evaluate whether a deal posting crosses the line to “free ad”). Hope you don’t remove there ad as the quality of there product is exceptional for the prices they charge.

Nobody who registered has officially said “sale continues Sunday” (in past years, a few people did) but as the day goes on, we do sometimes get updates from people, anything from “everything half off” to “sale continuing Sunday” – and we post those in our updates as we can. Sellers and buyers also are welcome to directly communicate via the WSCGSD FB page http://facebook.com/westseattlegaragesaleday

Meantime, the online map is up now and providing I don’t have a last-minute PDF-merging glitch, the printable version will be linked here by 6 pm …

First, to respond to TR’s post:

TR, I just forwarded you the two e-mails that I had previously sent regarding the removal of these posts. You’ll see that I did comply with the rant rules by bringing this to your attention (twice) in the last couple of years.

Second, nothing I said in my post about the plumber was wrong. I said that I ran an LNI search for the business mentioned and the only “Affordable Plumbing” that I found in the Seattle area was based in Redmond and had a suspended license for lawsuits and an unsatisfied judgment. That is all correct. I actually found 3 others, but they were not located in the Seattle area, so I assumed this business was either the one I found (in Redmond, also owned by a “Tom”), or was unlicensed.

What I did not do is run a WA business license search, which revealed the business was licensed with the state DOR, but WAS NOT licensed with LNI, which is the illegal contracting I was referring to. That also likely means that the business didn’t have an insurance policy or bond to protect their customers.

So the post was ABSOLUTELY NOT filled with inaccuracies as TR mentioned, but it was filled with an assumption that proved to be partially wrong and partially right.

Hopey, to your comment about a public service vs. damaging – I previously asked the OP in these situations about license information for the business that was being raved about, if I could not locate LNI registration information about the business.

TR decided that was not acceptable either, and deleted the entire thread that time (which I confronted her about via e-mail). So this time, I looked up the business and found no LNI registration, and made the correct assumption that the business was not registered, and therefore operating illegally.

In terms of the libel comment, that is just never going to happen. TR could get sued for libel (as you have to publish the work to be sued for libel), but I could only get sued for defamation. In order to have committed the civil offense of defamation, I would have had to say something patently false (as opposed to qualifying my statement which I always do as an opinion or by saying that it “seems like” or “may be” a certain way).

Plus, the plaintiff would have to prove actual monetary damages, and like most homeowners, I have personal liability insurance against defamation which includes coverage of legal representation, and with the policy limits I have, that means that I have absolutely zero exposure to a potential defamation suit.

Huindekmi, thank you for your post. I am glad that I could provide some assistance on this. I personally had a situation that was very similar, but the contractor actually stole my draw payments and used them for his own purposes and to pay off other jobs.

    https://westseattleblog.com/forum/topic/rant-contractor-scam-dwellcraft-mark-darbous

It took over a year in court and nearly $80k in attorneys fees to get a judgment for fraud, conversion (the civil form of theft) and breach of contract. I currently have a $185,000 fraud judgment against this contactor ($160k + interest for those that will look this up), of which I’ve received less than $300. I question whether I’ll ever see any significant portion of that money.

My goal is simply to help others stay out of the situation that I found myself in. I think that is a pretty noble motive.

So for those of you who say that I shouldn’t be as confrontational in my responses, I would encourage you to tell me how I could phrase my posts that would still tell others that the business is illegal without offending anyone (other than the illegal business owner who I don’t really care that I’m offending).
