i just invested an hour listening to a talk that i thought would bore me… it didn’t.
Even though i consider myself fairly well versed in the lessons our nation’s history has to offer … i found myself mesmerized as the foundations of our current political struggle were laid out in historical detail.
the question he asks is how can we say that our current political struggle is too great when our ancestors fought the same fight with little education and far great odds and won?
it’s a good question.. as his other… what do we want for our children and grandchildren and what are we willing to do to make that dream a reality?
i chose to park this one in general discussions because i think the topic transcends what we think of as politics… I hope you agree.

Help Orca Network raise funds to bring Lolita home! The Spring Fling for Lolita Online Auction, May 10-24, has been organized by volunteers in the midwest on behalf of Orca Network and the Southern Resident Killer Whale named Lolita (Tokitae), who was captured in Puget Sound and has been held alone in the Miami Seaquarium for 44 years.
More than 300 auction items — jewelry, art, crafts, trips, autographed books and DVDs, and services — have been donated from around the world. Lots of great orca items, of course, but also pieces honoring other endangered species and the people working to save them. You can preview the items and register to bid at https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/item/browse.action?auctionId=208813302
All proceeds benefit Orca Network, a 50(c)(3) organization based on Whidbey Island, and their plan to “retire” Lolita from performing and if possible, return her to her family (the L-pod) in the Salish Sea. Read more about the plan here: http://www.orcanetwork.org/Main/index.php?categories_file=Retirement

Topic: New buoy off Lincoln Park?
Tonight while walking around the shore walk by Colman Pool, I noticed a flashing buoy offshore that I had not seen (or noticed before). It appeared to be 400 yards offshore to the north. If you stand where the shoreline trail and the trail that takes you closer to the bluff meet and look toward Bainbridge Island you will see it.
.
I look out at the water constantly while walking and the “new” flashing light caught my attention so close to shore. It’s not one of those big navigation buoys, but it’s a smaller one.
.
I even stopped some dog walkers to compare memories and they had been discussing it as well. One of the dog walkers thought she had seen something in the WSB. I did find this article from almost a year ago. https://westseattleblog.com/2013/07/oh-buoy-king-countys-new-water-quality-monitor-off-lincoln-park/ (Not sure if this link will work.) But this article describes what we saw.
.
However, I have been walking that trail all winter and didn’t really notice it until tonight. I am wondering if it’s the same buoy and has been out there all winter, or was it recently put back in place?
Thanks, ~z
