skeeterParticipantI was thinking the same thing Wake. A career in accounting has its share of frustrations. But it’s pretty rare to see a CPA with reasonably up-to-date skills out of work for long.

seaopgalParticipantI’ve barely made $50K per year working, and I certainly don’t expect to make that amount — or need it — in retirement. But I’ve saved and invested and inherited (a little) and know that my partner and I are resourceful enough to make do with what we have. And anyway, this is the key: The ONE thing that most makes for a happy, healthy, secure retirement is the extent and quality of your social relationships and connections. No amount of money can make up for isolation, lack of engagement, the stress of family rifts or regrets.

wakefloodParticipantAnd since my brain works this messed up way, I’ll throw this unrelated thought out, re: cult companies.
It’s been around for decades but it certainly has become more commonplace for this requirement to buy in on every level to the company cult. It’s even more supported now if you look at how the Pete Carroll “system” has transformed the Hawks into a SB winner. It’s all the rage and he’s making big coin doing management consulting and motivational speaking to be sure.
Let me take a second to speculate. Pete got rid of anyone who wasn’t all in on their system. And one can’t seriously argue with the results, right?
Let me throw this into the mix. SOME, and I’ll speculate here, A SIGNIFICANT portion of that success was due NOT to the Rah!, Rah! teamsmanship but to a simple economic scenario.
The Seahawks are in a three-year window with their core young, but most importantly CHEAP talent. Last year, they saved $15M alone having a Super Bowl caliber QB making $600K instead of $16M+. That allowed them to literally stack the deck with veterans on the Defense that they won’t be able to once they get done paying Wilson next year. Good planning? Absolutely. Really good talent evaluation? No question, best in the biz. Adderall distribution? Top notch. Cult of Team? Remains to be seen.

skeeterParticipantDo people who work for cult companies even know it?
May 21, 2014 at 10:23 pm #808488
JoBParticipantyes skeeter.. they know it
every day they go to work they are faced with all those bright young whiz kids
they know it

retired60ParticipantRacist … I may have some biases. As a Black man who was over elated to vote for and see the first Black President take office, and twice to boot.
The reason I mentioned him, is that so many in this country have gone blind with hate, and would rather see this country go down the drain than see him succeed.
May 22, 2014 at 3:31 am #808490
seaopgalParticipantretired60: From your earlier posts, I could tell that you aren’t a racist. I think people just misunderstood what you were saying about President Obama … that you weren’t blaming him.
May 22, 2014 at 7:24 pm #808491
retired60ParticipantThanks Seaopgal … He’s doing his best and have done quite a bit w/o help from Congress and the Repubs.
Just think of where this country would be if they worked with him … rather than hate him for being who and what he is .. The First Black President (No one can take that away .. ever) … Things would be so much better
May 22, 2014 at 8:21 pm #808492
SmittyParticipantI’ve “only” been around since Carter, but from my perspective (middle-aged white guy) the “hate” (I prefer dislike) has everything to do with policies and nothing to do with race. Can you give at least a couple of examples of “Congress and the Repubs” who hate and oppose his policies because of his skin color?
May 22, 2014 at 8:58 pm #808493
JoBParticipantSmitty..
they can’t be said to hate what they labeled Obamacare when it was their policy before he forwarded it in the hopes that they would sign on.
so tell me again that this is about policies.
May 23, 2014 at 1:05 am #808494
SmittyParticipantJoB, that’s all well and good – and debatable.
However, my questions stands. I need some examples from retired60 of “Congress and the Repubs” opposing Obama policies because of his skin color.

retired60ParticipantAre you kidding me ????????
Remember “YOU LIE” the first time a President was told this, and by a member of Congress … while giving a speech. Not believing his Birth was in America, Calling him a Socialist, and relating him to Hitler and other tyrants of the world.
Wanting to impeach him for Nothing, Calling him Lazy and weak as he deals with the problems of the world, then a Tyrant and a King .. how can he be both ????
Hatred is confusing and ignorant which Repubs. have proved of themselves over and over. How can college educated people be so ignorant of common and factual knowledge ???

retired60ParticipantObama care was the name given this Healthcare program by Republicans to Label what Repubs. thought was a failure that would stick with him forever.
It was meant to destroy him, but now as it becomes more popular with each month that goes by … Repubs. want to say it was a poster of endearment. I’m not that stupid and neither is the rest of this country. We know how this story unfolded and how we got here.
This Program will be remembered long after the last Repub. living is long gone from this earth.
May 23, 2014 at 1:57 am #808498
retired60ParticipantRepublicans can’t tell well read and educated Americans that don’t listen to Rush, and Fox News .. that they care about the middleclass, the poor, the elderly, our vets, the youth both in and out of college, our infrastructure, one vote for all American citizens. They just don’t and they don’t mind telling us this.
Hate for others not like them is why most poor Republicans vote against their own interest, matters how much it hurts their families and the country.
There is something wrong when Repubs. hate the word “Racism” and “Hate” itself. Maybe just maybe it hits to close to home.
And why has Televised examples of Hate and Racism recently seem to always come from those that relate to The Grand Old Party ???? Why tell me why .. ??????

retired60ParticipantWhen you respond to my Questions … Please give facts and not vague hypotheticals and made up fictional hearsay. Thanks so much
May 23, 2014 at 2:17 am #808500
retired60ParticipantWhile the less than wealthy and rich Republicans help their party win elections .. remember who they are hurting along with the ones you dislike …
Yes it’s you and everyone who works for a living. Any and everything that should be helping us live a better life as we support our families and send our kids to college .. and retire with dignity has or is being taken away ..
and it’s all for one reason … so that the wealthy can become wealthier. They are the ones paying for this to happen .. So far it’s working
May 23, 2014 at 2:26 am #808501
retired60ParticipantRepubs. say both parties are to blame for the money that has come into politics … The Conservative supreme court supported the wealthy by saying Cooperation’s are people, and the money started to flow even more than ever.
Democrats who were bringing a stick to what has now become a gun fight .. decided they needed guns too, and they really don’t condone gun use.
What can you do .. take your stick and run for you life … I don’t think so .. the fight had to be equal or else …..

http://thedailybanter.com/2013/01/yes-the-republican-party-is-racist-and-heres-why/
and i didn’t even bother pulling out dear Sarah…
denying the racism that has reared it’s ugly head in America may be comforting, but it isn’t realistic…
and while we are at it i would love to close with the statement from Ann Coulter that said basically that if we denied women the vote we could end democratic presidencies in these United States…
while no mainstream republican candidate was willing to publicly back her.. someone was definitely listening. The voter suppression laws currently being propagated across the Republican strongholds … supposedly to confront almost non-existent voter fraud… disproportionately affect women and people of color.
hmmmmmm…
Just politics so therefore not racism or sexism?
i don’t think so.

SmittyParticipant“denying the racism that has reared it’s ugly head in America may be comforting, but it isn’t realistic…”
Yet again these discussions tend to migrate from one thing to another.
Let me put it another way to try and stay on track:
What *policies* have “Congress and the Repubs” opposed because our President is bi-racial? Which policies (in your opinion) would they have passed had he been 100% white?
May 23, 2014 at 10:20 pm #808504
JoBParticipantSmitty…
and then there’s this
popping into my inbox today :)

what policies haven’t they opposed would be a much better question
May 23, 2014 at 10:42 pm #808506
waynsterParticipantRacism hmmm it went away and came back..? boy that’s a first the good old boy network has never stopped with racism every now and then it leaks out and we get reminded that bigots are still involved with politics….. its sad in this day and age of this country and its not just skin color that racism targets…..
May 24, 2014 at 12:05 am #808507
JoBParticipantwaynster..
there was a short window of time where it was considered political death to make openly racist remarks… due to voter fatigue ;->
so they changed the buzzwords.. and then they changed them again.
now it’s apparently once again considered ok to be openly racist
as long as you never admit that you make any political policy decision on the basis of racism :(
May 24, 2014 at 1:54 am #808508
SmittyParticipant“what policies haven’t they opposed would be a much better question”
Fair enough.
What policies WOULD THEY NOT HAVE opposed HAD THE PRESIDENT BEEN WHITE?
