When you watch the first part of the Palin interview (on economy) you can literally see her look down at notes. You can see Katie glance down there once too. Katie looked so irritated. I’m trying to find the clip of them walking and talking about Fannie/Freddie…

So I’m guessing that McCain-Palin camp isn’t loving CBS now between Katie and Dave. Let’s count who has “done them wrong” to date – MSNBC (by default, CNBC and NBC), CNN (by default, HeadlineNews), CBS. Do we think the McCains still like ABC after The View? Don’t know. They still have Fox though.

Yes, and it’s also a problem during the evening rush around 5-6pm. I try to go alternate routes as well but it seems like it’s quicker to take that arterial even if you have to wait through a few lights. I am mostly scared of how crazy the traffic is with cars darting around metro busses and pedestrians and cyclists and weird parking lot entrances and exits.

OMG ignorance in all its blazing glory

Along those lines, McCain hadn’t even read the Paulson 3-page report until last Tuesday, four full days after its publication. (he hadn’t had a chance to see it “in writing”)

where are the conservative apologists now?

Diane – sorry for the brain warp – I wanted to see if I would get the preview button, but when I didn’t I had to change my post via the edit function! I think you have editing access for one hour after the post. I see my previous posts are no longer edit-able.

Oh, and the whole Letterman thing? Of course it’s funny but in reality, it’s just shocking and distressing how ridiculous McCain’s whole campaign has become.

My only ER experience/advice: Remember that *IF* they keep you, you’ll wind up in the hospital of the ER you select. Swedish First Hill ER was awesome — receptive, thorough; the hospital, after Swedish Ballard, was a major disappointment. Had I known I was going to stay, I’d have gone to Ballard :-) ymmv.

it was very funny; I don’t usually watch Letterman, but after hearing about this earlier in the day on Keith Olbermann, made a point to catch it

The entire first half of the show last night was genius. After praising McCain as a true American hero, he proceeded to rip him a new one (taking numerous jabs at Palin along the way).

The live feed of McCain being worked on by a makeup artist while waiting to go live with Katie Couric was hysterical. As Dave said, kinda like catching him in the middle of a manicure.

What a complete joke of a campaign.

wow, that was weird; thought I was having a brain lapse, after posting then looking back at your post add, and it was changed; funny; so now I get it; thanks for the tip on “edit”; never noticed

I like the preview/post much better; is that possible on the forum?

lol. Ok. Thanks! I skipped over that post somehow. Thanks! I will try it for sure… I didn’t want to go to Brewsky’s. I used to go to an aquarium shop right by there, and was always a little afraid of the men standing outside staring.

Not Safeway, Met market, PCC, etc. an actual butcher shop. Does anyone know of anyplace to get some fantastic fresh chicken or lamb, or pork?

    Thanks in advance!

The problem is one intersection north. In the mornings the light going north across the Fauntleroy /WS bridge intersection is only long enough for three cars to cross to the arterial. This backs up the left lane all the way to the light.

My guess is that this is part of the overall plan to increase the flow via the ferry at the expense of local traffic across the width of WS.

I take alternate routes in the mornings now.

I’ve noticed this too. It’s also a busy pedestrian area and I’m always afraid someone’s going to make a fast left turn right into a person crossing the street.

JanS: of course, on the downside, my driving used to scare my husband…we went to D.C. (my hometown) for the holidays a few years ago and after 5 minutes on the Capital Beltway he said, “Now I understand why you drive like that.” Lol…I’ve moderated my driving style for the PNW, though.

Beachdrivegirl: considering that after an incident with an aggressive off-leash dog earlier this week (the third such since July) I’ve stopped going to Westcrest Park entirely, I’m afraid I still disagree with you on that one.

CountingCoup: ugh, that IS worse. Usually when I read about these kinds of cases in parts of Africa (and other places, too, that’s just where most of the specific examples I can recall right now took place) it’s more like what used to happen in Europe: some poor shlub who nobody likes starts getting blamed for people’s misfortunes and winds up exiled if they’re lucky.

So Mooth came into a community and basically manufactured a case to further his own cause. I repeat: UGH.

I believe its actually worse. According to reports her church and the pastors in it look for areas of the towns or cities that they believe a high level of sin is occuring.

They go out to these areas and pray to find the evil spirits, then they cast them out. In Paster Mooth’s case in Africa, he found a local fortune teller and blamed her as that evil entity. He began a crusade to get her removed from the community she was living in and with his minions with threat of bodily harm and accusations of being a witch, she left town.

This is classic defintion of a witch hunt and Palin is cool with this?

And now the Enquire story is beginning to get some traction… Wow McCain knows how to vet them and pick em’ ~ Amazing

Maybe the Sarah Palin witchcraft thing will overshadow this. Maybe in her next interview someone can ask her what her opinion of Halloween is and does she celebrate it?

lol..datamuse…yes…even when you sit there and wave them in , they hesitate…geez, 30 more seconds and you’re out of luck. I say. Yeah, it’s different on the east coast…lots more people, lots more cars…and then there’s the Connecticut drivers – lol…(sister lived in southwest MA, so I heard about the CT drivers a lot – lol)

The working definition of a witch in Africa is pretty different from what it is here.

If the pastor actually did that, he may well have been exploiting a fragile social situation, which is often how these kinds of cases arise. Definitely doesn’t make me like Palin any better.

The issue I have is that when I do leave space for people to merge in (which I do), they sit there for half a year deciding whether I reallyreally mean it while all the traffic backed up behind me boils over.

Maybe it’s because I grew up driving on the east coast, where everyone is Type A with rabies on the road, but I just can’t wrap my mind around this. If there’s a gap, take it. If people honk, so what? I decided years ago that everyone in New York has three hands: one for the steering wheel, one for the cell phone, and one for the horn.

I’m lucky in that I don’t have to commute out of West Seattle daily, but when I have to (Thursday morning), if I encounter something like that, what’s so bad about letting one car in. Yes, maybe they cheated, but I just figure I don’t have to be the assh*** that they are, and I will let ONE car in. Two? probably not…someone behind me can do that. I figure it won’t slow me down much, and we’ll all get there. Does it make me cranky? As they say in other parts of the city “You betcha!” The ones that really piss me off are the ones who want to cut in and don’t even use a signal. Guess they haven’t been in West Seattle long enough to know that Friday is the only “signals optional” day here – ;-)(yes, it’s a joke)

This response is to A Parent above:

A Parent says: “Mr. Tripp came across as a gentle, kind, witty man who really loves God, his children and grandchildren, and cares deeply about future generations”

A Parent, I must judge Ted Tripp by his written teachings. His book is his opinions without the veneer of his apparently charming personality. Long after he is gone, parents will be reading and using his book, and you know very well that it is being passed around like candy at Mars Hill.

There are many Christian parenting gurus who come across as folksy, funny, wonderful people. That is how they get a following. Many of these people teach abusive and harmful practices to children, but sweeten up the deal with ideas like “tying heart strings” or “finding your child’s love languages”.

People have testified time and time again that they got involved with a parenting guru based on the “good” parts of the teachings. In no time, they adopt all the dark, punitive practices and they are spanking their kids all day.

A Parent says: “I really wish the protestors would have attended the conference or somehow gone a little deeper on this subject, on the speaker, and Mars Hill.”

Let’s go deeper into Mars Hill and talk about a parenting sermon given by its main teaching pastor.

In the sermon, I heard Mark Driscoll testify to having “disciplined” his toddler son all day. At the end of this, he had a strange session where he held his son and began praying for him and confessing the child’s sins. Finally, his little son “broke”, in Driscoll’s own words. I dread to think what this meant emotionally for his son. This is Trippism at its finest, imposing a deep obsession regarding motivations upon a small child who is developmentally probably not capable of really understanding what is going on.

In the same sermon, I heard Mark Driscoll joke about how his daughter’s buttocks would shrink to “a quarter” of their normal size when he was preparing to spank her. He joked about how this was because of her fear of the oncoming slaps. Again, this is Trippism, with the daughter lying with her pants down across the father’s lap, anticipating pain to be inflicted on her bare skin. Rather than feeling sorrowful about spanking his daughter, Driscoll made jokes about her fear reaction.

This sermon is available on the Mars Hill audio site.

Does that go deep enough into what Mars Hill teaches about disciplining children?

“JoB seems like a very nice person with a big heart, but I disagree with how this was managed, and how my church was portrayed in the process.”

And here is the crux. The church does not want or like negative publicity. My guess is that all the chat on the member boards (and, honestly, the idea of locked down member boards really makes you wonder about the transparency of the church’s practices) has been about the potential harm to the church’s reputation. I’m sure that people like me are regarded as somewhat stupid, or heathen, and certainly not worthy of actually being listened to. Thank heavens that blogging helps me feel heard.

“… your blogs and protests will be a lot more reputable and meaningful.”

Have I been disreputable? Really? How so?

A final word: I have no question that you love your children, and you are trying to do what is best for them. I believe that the parents at Mars Hill love their children deeply. However, if you are sincerely wrong about your parenting practices, your children will pay the price.
