I think it’s safe to say that Moonbats are on both sides of the political isle and several posters in this thread prove that point.

Neither the left nor the right is perfect, if you think that is the case, you are a bigger loon than most.

In all honesty the left and right need each other to balance each other out.

A friend called last night and said he’d seen a few flakes of slushy snow among the rain when he was out. After forty-plus years living here, I don’t expect to see the sun until mid-June. But snow? That takes me aback.

    Gam that is amazing news!

And also debunks everyone saying ESL students have special needs, as well as my assumption that they have a slower learning capacity in English speaking schools due to their proposed un-familiarity with the English language. :]

And The House all I have to say is <3

Glad to see the younger kids are doing better than us teens/young adults ever did. Especially in Mathematics.

    Ah, there is hope yet!

I LOVE SLEEPLESS!!! They are the nicest people and the best coffee!!!

However – I don’t want the word to get out too much! I would hate to be in a line extending out on Harbor.

Richardson is a tough choice, because he was part of the Clinton adminsitration and the Clinton clan got very angry with him when he supported Obama. It almost rubs salt in the wounds, for the moderate Clinton supporters.

I much prefer a Clinton surrogate over Clinton, if the Obama campaign chooses that is the best chance to win in November. Rendall, Wesley Clark, someone who can reach out to Hill’s supporters…

Truly I think the party is about to turn against Hill’s. What she did tonight was nothing short of amazing. Chuck Todd compared it to the head coach of the losing team of the Super Bowl being interviewed after the game. The other team had won, the time had run out, they’d taken the Lombardi trophy. They then say, well we are clearly a much better team, and he have shown that in the 3rd quarter. I don’t accept the outcome of the game, and I will let you know what I decide.

I truly believe he can win without Hillary on the ticket.

I too believe she’d be great in the senate helping pass some much needed legislation and lead some senate investigations as well.

His speech was amazing – he is so grateful, humble, uniting, GRACIOUS, respectful and hopeful in the face of a total slap when she didnt step aside….He always takes the high road and I believe he’ll continue that way through the election which is going to be ugly (although McCains speech tonight left little to be exited or worried about!). She is a stubborn egomaniac for whom I’ve lost a lot of repect. I actually dont want her in the VP spot – it would be way too disfuctional with her AND Bill as VP. If she’s this stubborn now what would she be like in the VP’s office when she isnt getting her way? What an historical night – I’m so glad to be witness to it!!

well, the players on that team will come to realize soon enough what the city lacks…will be interesting to see how they embrace the city, lack of mass transit, , etc. Obviously there is money there somewhere…Clay Bennett had enough to put Mr. Stern in his pocket and buy the team…so maybe it’ll all be good…

I have not been so led on and teased since my last blind date 11 years ago (before I met the bob and stopped the madness.) I listened to Clinton’s whole speech (a first for me) and alternately was convinced she was going to leave graciously and convinced she was going to stubbornly stay through Denver.

Now, the Clintons are negotiating the vice presidency — Ed Schultz, a liberal talk show guy, said today that she should say, “Barack needs to decide who he wants to run with and if he wants me, I’m available.” Somehow I didn’t expect anything close to such class.

OK, Trick, what’s her theme song? And do we (Obama) have one?

New Res: I found this video very informative. Do you really not have sound? If not, I can understand why you would not find the link very helpful.

The video shows clips from every network which use the exact same language over and over, obviously using White House talking points, to describe their “puzzlement, disappointment” etc that a loyal nice guy like Scott McClelland could write such a book. This method is exactly what McClelland described as how the Bush Administration obfuscated the run up to war wit Iraq and the Valerie Plame outing. Interestingly, no one in the White House is disputing any of the facts of the book (yes, facts, I know, have a liberal bias), they’re pretty much just attempting to shoot the messenger.

The Daily Show and Colbert Report links were just for fun and to reiterate what the above video was illustrating.

It makes me incredibly sad for my country to find us constantly reminded of how little respect the Bush administration has for anyone who was not a true Republican believer. Bush said his base were the “haves and have mores”, and he governed to keep that base happy with tax cuts and a war for oil. McClelland say’s he’s written this book as a wake up call to get things to go differently in Washington. I hope we heed his warning.

House: Its a amusing attempt to show hypocrisy.

You seem to be advocating the nanny state cart away a piece of private property on public land because they are leaving it out past the 72 hour rule. Which reminded me of the recent conflict at volunteer park where the neighbors were complaining about the noise from drums during the day.

So if they move it every 71 hours thats fine? so worst case is you get a 72 hour vacation from seeing it every once and awhile. best case is you get someone else’s stuff carted away to impound because you decided it was ugly.

I agree they seem to be playing the system and its obviously annoying, ( and I am sure its ugly) but as the self described conservative you should be a little more open to criticism than to cut straight to insults, especially on the internet.

ps jan: if I was shooting for flames it would be far more colorful of a post and would probably include language like a**hat and the occasional ad hominem attack. I actually look forward to comparing notes with house at the pub on subjects such as creative tax write offs and the best shot shells for home defense.

People, read the online reporting form.

You don’t need to leave your contact information to report abandoned vehicles, it can be done anonymously. That section is only if you want feedback.

Or if you’re really chicken and think they can track you through your computer call the abandoned car phone # at 684.8763.

NewRes- polls have been as much as 20% off the day of the election many times during this cycle. Using the respected polls and there margin of errors you can find about a 15% point gap at any given time for any given contest.

Now, at this time, the polls you are talking about are at this time a hypothetical matchup that will happen 5 months from today. So, while they might be indicators, there should in no way be a deciding tool.

For example, every single poll 5 months prior to Iowa had Hillary Clinton versus Rudy Giuliani in the general election. They turned out to be wrong. Every single poll had Bill Clinton a distant 3rd place in 1996 when he won the nomination behind Bush and Perot.

It’s a cynical argument, and truly one made out of desperation. If the Clintons had won the election they would not be arguing mythic popular vote metrics, or “swing state” general election polls.

It is important that the nominee win in the fall. And right now, polls today show Obama with a slight edge over McCain. This is inspite of close to 1/3 of Hillary supporters saying they won’ support him. The real key to Obamas victory is going to be his continued strength in new swing states like Iowa, Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Washington State, Oregon- all of which he is considerably outperforming Hillary in right now, and all of which are crucial in November.

NCES Releases Condition of Education 2008 Report

Last Thursday, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) held a briefing on the release of “The Condition of Education 2008.” The congressionally mandated annual report showcases findings on a number of trends, including school enrollments, student performance on national and international assessments, public school expenditures, and the educational attainment of young adults.

Mark Schneider, Commissioner of NCES, presented the report findings. Introducing the report as a “big picture” view of U.S. education data, Schneider said this year’s notable findings include an improvement in math and reading scores, an increase in college enrollment, and persistent challenges that remain for minority populations. Public school enrollment continues to grow (expected to approach 50 million this year) and set new records, while private school enrollment has declined since 2001. Hispanic students now represent 20 percent of public school enrollment and the percentage of children who speak a language other than English at home has doubled (to 20 percent). Average test scores in 2007 for 9- and 13-year-olds in reading and mathematics show an upward trend. Notably, 4th graders in the United States are outperforming their international peers, on average, in terms of literacy. For the 2004–05 school year, the estimated on time graduation rate in the United States was 75 percent. The rate of students enrolling in college immediately after high school was 67 percent in 1997 (up from 49 percent in 1972), but has since fluctuated between 62 and 69 percent.

One thing people may not know, but if you belong to Costco, you can get Costco based pricing at local dealers. It takes the whole slime factor out of buying a new car – the prices is great and you just walk in an get the keys. You do have to go to the ‘managers’ office for the standard security systems/fabric protection sales push, but if you bring a two year old with you, it doesn’t last long!

You may want to print this out if you meet a cop who does not want to do the paperwork. They may not be required but you can ask that they forward the info/call to an animal control officer.

There are only 4 enforcement officers for the entire city.

    http://www.cityofseattle.net/animalshelter/strategy.htm

The following are some general guidelines to be used by both the Neighborhood Team and the Park Patrol Team to ensure that enforcement activities are conducted in a manner that is fair and equitable to all citizens.

A Citation shall be issued for violations including leash law, scoop law and pet licensing. A citation shall also be issued for other related animal-related violations when a pet owner:

Has previously been issued a warning, citation or parks exclusion notice for an animal-related violation.

Gives false information to the officer.

    Allows the animal to

Bite or behave dangerously, aggressively or in a menacing fashion.

Behave unruly; jump up on people.

Chase fish/wildlife; enter or destroy fish/wildlife habitat.

    Destroy public and/or private property.

Be off-leash in or near a playground, wading pool, beach, athletic field or any park area where there is a concentration of children, or on or near a trail or any park area where people are walking, running, picnicking or engaging in other recreational activities where an off-leash dog would be considered by a reasonable person to be disruptive.

A Park Exclusion Notice shall be issued in addition to a citation when the violator:

Has received 3 or more animal-related citations in the parks within a twelve (12) month period.

Has previously received a citation for dangerous animal behavior surrounding an incident that occurred in a City park.

Is uncooperative or belligerent and the Seattle Police Department must be summoned to assist the officer.

Except for violations of leash law, scoop law, licensing laws or other circumstances outlined above, a Warning may be issued, at the discretion of the officer, if the following conditions are met and the violator:

Tried earnestly not to violate the law.

Has not previously received animal code violation warnings, citations or parks exclusion notices for animal-related violations.

Has not allowed the animal to bite or behave dangerously, aggressively or in a menacing fashion.

Is otherwise in compliance of the leash law, scoop law and pet licensing law.

Note: When the police advise you not to confront people, they may have your best interest at heart. But those of us who are not afraid of confrontation or it’s results, should continue to at in a civic minded fashion. Otherwise everyone gets run over since we cannot possible afford enough police to protect a compliant citizenry.

Yes Jan, that was the Pickwick.

    .

Another odd thing, I don’t remember it (although after turnong 21, I did patronize the Pickwick when it was at Westwood, occasionally) and more surpisingly the old Fire Station. Yet I remember the Ernst Hardware across the street, where Wells Fargo now is, previously known as First Interstate Bank, previously known as Pacific Bank. (Bigfoot’s Bank).

I am a passionate dog-owner AND carry mace on me at all times. You can get cheap mace that fits on your key chain that even has a “saftey” on it at Frys for under $5. I carry it not just to protect MYSELF but to protect my pooch from other dogs. Just in case. I’ve heard of it not working on aggressive dogs but it makes me feel better. It’s nice to have the piece of mind.

As a dog owner, I understand there is a time and place for on and off leash. There are 2 water front dog parks: Sand point and Mercer Island. Otherwise, Westcrest is near by. The fine alone for having my dog off leash on teh water front is enough to deter me (not to mention the saftey risks if my dog were to chase a squirrel…). I think the first offense is like $500!
