In reply to: Best vegan restaurant choices in WS?
keleesoMemberWe Eat at Olarn Thai and Maharaja – They are both very accomodating when we explain we are vegan. Tacaria Guyamas makes a good veggie burrito (sans cheese and sour cream) Also Abondanza Pizzaria and Garlic Jims make good cheeseless pizzas.

AnonymousInactiveAccording to this previous discussion of old businesses in WS, it was on California and Alaska. The Senior center is further north, so maybe memories are hazy.

flowerpetalMemberSomewhat. I presume you are talking about Highline on Holden SW. I think, if my friend were born 50 years ago that the space above the senior center is more likely.

JenVMemberI happen to love Shadowland, and am surprised by this rant. BDG, that stinks that some drunk loser ruined your night. I am sorry to hear that. I will say I have never seen anything like this there- it is usually a really mellow joint.
I think I might know who it was, though…. :(

TrickParticipantI wasn’t all that thrilled when I went to Shadowland either.
Surprises me the server just laughed. His tab should’ve been closed and thrown out by his cajones.

shihtzuParticipantI “think” there used to be a hospital where the senior center is now…
I know two of my sister in laws were born in West Seattle.
June 2, 2008 at 4:30 pm #587099Topic: West Seattle Hospital?
in forum WSB Reader RecommendationsflowerpetalMemberThis past weekend we celebrated the 50th birthday of a friend from Oregon. She told us she was born in West Seattle; and according to her parents it was West Seattle Hospital. They used to describe it as a store front hospital and that is stumping me! I was thinking perhaps Mount St. Vincent… but that doesn’t make sense.
Can someone with 50 or more years of WS experience tell me where this was? My friend would like a picture then and now (if possible).

SueParticipantI eat out a lot by myself, all over WS. I’ve never felt uncomfortable sitting there reading while waiting in any restaurant I’ve been in.

walfredoMemberHillary’s popular vote “victory”.
Just in case anyone is confused about Hillary’s “victory:
#1- there is no popular vote. Each state has there own nominating process (caucas, open primary, closed primary, two-step etc.) Delegates are proportioned to reflect equal representation to each state based on democratic voting population. Under the popular vote method, states w/ open primaries (allow all registered voters to vote) get almost twice as much say as a similar sized state with a closed primary (dems only). And 1/5 of the electorial college has no say, as they hold caucases…
But okay, thats logic. Let’s just deal with the statement from the campaign-
Clinton wins the popular vote if you:
a- count both unsanctioned elections exactly as voted, giving Obama 0 votes in Michigan.
b- exclude all caucas states- a full 1/5th of the electorial college
c- count all votes of territories that do not have a general election vote
d- you count primary results from Texas, but not caucas results.
e- You do not count “selective” primaries in Washington State and Nebraska, because they were not used to select delegates.
That’s it. Makes sense to me. Clearly Hill won. Delegates don’t show the will of the people, the metric made up by the Clintons above clearly does. Game Over.

WSMomParticipantOnly two seasons left to find Lost. For you science geeks out there, check out this link.

“Physicist: Einstein Would Approve of Moving the Island on Lost
How did Ben make the island “disappear” in last night’s season finale? It’s all relativity, argues a top professor who even uses Lost in his classes. Wormholes, 305-degree bearings, the Casimir effect—it all checks out with quantum mechanics”
Lost has something for everyone.

JenVMemberElliot Bay Brew pub is a great place to sit at the bar- eat and read. Yummy Teriyaki, Azuma – I really can’t think of any place I have been where they would give you any flak for dining by yourself with a book.

berthaParticipantBoth of my daughters attended the YMCA camp at Lincoln Park for several years and loved it. The counselors are very good with the kids and can play around and still maintain their authority. Several of my friends have sent their children to the Y camp and also recommend it. Compared to other programs my children were in the Y wins hands down.
