gambaruParticipantjissy-
I am a passionate dog-owner AND carry mace on me at all times. You can get cheap mace that fits on your key chain that even has a “saftey” on it at Frys for under $5. I carry it not just to protect MYSELF but to protect my pooch from other dogs. Just in case. I’ve heard of it not working on aggressive dogs but it makes me feel better. It’s nice to have the piece of mind.
As a dog owner, I understand there is a time and place for on and off leash. There are 2 water front dog parks: Sand point and Mercer Island. Otherwise, Westcrest is near by. The fine alone for having my dog off leash on teh water front is enough to deter me (not to mention the saftey risks if my dog were to chase a squirrel…). I think the first offense is like $500!

JeannieParticipantHey, VelvetBulldog – hope you enjoy it. It’s molto bene.

JeannieParticipantIt’s “it’s,” not “its,” Jiggers. And “you’re hurting,” not “your hurting.” But I agree it doesn’t make much sense to attempt to read in the dark. No, it won’t damage your eyes, but it’s pretty silly. Hell, what if someone straining to read holds the book right up to a candle – and it catches fire! Plenty of excellent restaurants do have good lighting, though.

AnonymousInactiveGHO, it was about 4-ish. Next time went closer to the noon hour. And I did enjoy the burrito. Didn’t mean to make the place sound blah. It’s really nice to have something to pull over for after a home depot trip.

megMemberSo, saturday the 7th? Or the 14th? Any votes? thoughts?
I would vote for this Sunday the 9th or Saturday the 14th.
And C&P would be my top choice.

barmargiaMemberChessa, congrats on getting out of Detroit, I used to (many many many many years ago) live in Mt. Clemons, all I remember from my experience was “Detroit…ugh”. On the restaurant front, I think Portage Bay is vegetarian, or maybe it’s organic…I have a couple vegetarian (not vegan) friends who love it.
June 3, 2008 at 2:46 am #625719swimcatMemberThere is a house for rent at the corner of 37th and Myrtle in Gatewood. It is a cute house and I think it is a 2 bedroom. There are several houses for rent on 35th but I don’t know if you’d want to live on an arterial (it’s not appealing to me but some don’t mind it). Good luck with the search!

barmargiaMembersometimes if you have the right people complaining the city won’t even bother with the orange sticker, they will just tow your vehicle, or in my case it was a cargo trailer we were using to move with and the mothers at the school across the street complained about.
June 3, 2008 at 2:42 am #625196In reply to: Rave, rave, rave for Springhill
charlabobParticipantOK, here’s a slightly negative view :-( My friend, who loved I’m My Own Wife, went to Springhill after the play Friday night. They were out of most of what she wanted — her bottom line: everything was artistic, well done, and not nearly enough food. The pear and beat salad was beautiful — but barely enough pares and beets to taste — (they might have been running short.) (They were even out of the peanut ice cream…offered coffee, which seemed too ordinary.) Good stuff – the taste was magnificant and she was a woman alone who felt absolutely comfortable, even without a book on a Friday night!
We tried again tonight and were hit with the odd 5:45 opening. I’m sure that works for folks who eat late on weekdays — we’re not among them. At least we want to sit in a bar and sip wine while we wait for a super table.
I’m glad it’s here and someday I may actually get to eat there.
Meantime, as always, Angelina’s came through!

JimmyGMemberI’m sure they think they’re making a difference, raising everyone’s consciousness on the topic, having an impact, etc.
But really, isn’t there probably a better way to use their time and obvious passion to address the war policy?
I don’t even pay them any attention anymore, they’re like white noise on my w-end walk through the Junction.
June 3, 2008 at 2:29 am #625778In reply to: Rant – Broken Down Mobile Home License Plate 501 WJU
JimmyGMemberThe orange sticker does NOT come with a ticket, it is a warning to move the car within 72 hours or it will be towed, still no ticket for that, you just are on the hook for all of the towing and storage costs. So nothing goes on your driving record or against your insurance for having an abandoned car towed.
June 3, 2008 at 2:27 am #626108In reply to: Junction Weekend war protests
bcollinsMemberAt this point…get off the corner and get into the voting both. It is a complete waste of time to protest this issue (although their right to do so) now. It’s just self serving or something like that. If it’s to the point that you have to impact the rights of others to get your protest point across, you/they have lost moral authority.

barmargiaMemberI have also walked through the junction when the protesters were out and noticed their pushiness if you don’t protest with them.

TammiWSMemberI recall there being a bank at one time where Super Sup is – (and a gym once as well). I thought it was Key but maybe it was a Peoples Bank or ??? That’s the vault I’m referring to, under Super Sup. They used to have metal drop boxes too outside the door if I recall?

GenHillOneParticipantJT – how late is “later in the day” (so we can try earlier)
June 3, 2008 at 1:08 am #626082In reply to: West Seattle Hospital?
GenHillOneParticipantTotally confused…KeyBank (SW) and Super Supplements (SE) are on different corners. But we’re saying that there used to be a bank on the SE corner too, with a vault? Under the hospital? Well, either way, when Conner gets down there to that morgue level, sounds like a cool video story, WSB. Someone on here likes the WS ghost stories – Shibaguyz maybe? Too morbid? I just like those weird corners that you don’t usually get to see!

June 3, 2008 at 12:47 am #625851In reply to: What’s Your Favorite West Seattle Restaurant?
dapuffinParticipantOoooh we have many favorites. In no particular order:
JaK’s – it’s ALL good. We went there last night to celebrate our new car purchase and had the filet maximillian.. yummmmmm!
Buddha Ruksa – it’s ALL good, but we especially like the crack chicken, the duck dishes, Tom Kha and the pumpkin prawn curry
West5 – Astral Mac & Cheese is a favorite of me and MrPuffin.
Mashiko – Never had a loser here, but the Southern Roll is a favorite, as is the dessert of tempura apple with plum sorbet with a sprig of mint. Incredible stuff!
Ephesus – Most everything we’ve had there over the years has been incredible, but I tend to order hummus and dolmades for appetizers and lamb shiskabob more often than not.
