elgregoMemberJiggers – I’m pretty white, being German/Swedish. Don’t let the name fool you.
Out of curiosity, what are everyone’s ages? I’m turning 30 in a couple months.
This weekend is bad for me (Navy Reserve), and I work the swing shift (330-1030pm) on weekdays.

AnonymousInactiveRS – That’s great! Any one else?
And what day works best for everyone?
June 3, 2008 at 11:52 pm #625997In reply to: Restaurant for individuals
RSMemberNext week works best for me, pretty much any night of the week. Next weekend is the Brewers’ festival and the Georgetown music festival, so I’ll be hanging out in other ‘hoods. :)

AnonymousInactiveBDG – I really, really was not referring to you!! I promise. I understand that you have been busy. Please don’t think that was aimed at you in any way!
Maybe next week (during week) or next weekend would work best for everyone?

TheHouseMemberThis isn’t worth debating Vincent. It’s against the law. Sure, I would love to simply handle the situation myself and torch the damn thing, but then I’m in the wrong. I also notated in my original post that I haven’t been vigilant on calling after 72 hours, I’ve waited as long as 10 days.
I’d honestly have to say that this is a nonpartisan issue!

AnonymousInactiveJiggers – That is exactly what I have experienced. The whole, “Here’s my number, but don’t call anytime soon” thing.
Of course, I have met some REALLY great new friends just recently that I have found to be refreshingly genuine.
But, I’m white (completely) so I don’t necessarily think it is a “race” issue. I think it may just be (especially here in WS) such a tight knit community, that people are either not used to meeting new people, or uncomfortable with it.

JiggersMemberElgrego, I sympathize with you and you may have a strong ethnic background(seeing your screename) like I do that’s not all white. I’ve been living here for 12 years for who knows why and know that it’s very hard to make friends out here, especially if you have darker skin than the average normal white guy. I have no exceptional real friends here like back home, but only know aquaintences. Seattleites are a weird group of people who like to say we are “nice” but its like this “I’ll give you my number, but please don’t call me anytime soon to have coffee” Its a cold shoulder, but you’ll get used to to it. More ethnic folks have a harder time mixing in because that’s the way it is out here with the whitie’s. I frankly couldn’t give a crap, but I’ve never needed to put on a second face to be accepted into a social group. Remember, life’s to short to worry about people if they like you or hate you. I have other things to worry about than if you like me or not. Just be yourself and go with the flow. And don’t sugarcoat the way you feel or things they you want to say, or listen to how others want you to think out here, its all BS. You have your own mind and thoughts. Be yourself.

AnonymousInactiveWell, I hope you come then, vincent, to the next get together so you can meet House.
He is very engaging and a pleasure to hang out with.
(Of course, we agree on a lot of things, but….)

JenVMemberhellz YES on the “no politics” rule. I hate talking about politics, actually. Let’s talk books, music, tv, movies- anything but politics. I get enough of that crammed in my head all day long!
June 3, 2008 at 11:13 pm #625990In reply to: Restaurant for individuals
AnonymousInactiveJT – That was very sweet! However, I WISH that was the problem! Lol.
JenV – Any day, pretty much, works for me. I would just need a little advanced notice. I could do weekend or weekday.
And, how about no politics discussed? Or, would that not be any fun?

JenVMemberdazzelspace- did you report this to your insurance co? If you are able to get his plate #, they can run it and go after him for the damages to your vehicle even if you don’t have full coverage. just a thought, that has nothing to do with drunks, bars, anything like that- at least he would be held financially responsible for his actions, since it’s too late to do anything legally to him. if he’s a regular, it wouldn’t be too hard to find his plate # if you weren’t able to get it at the scene.

beachdrivegirlParticipantthat is definitly a problem that the guy is there everyday @ 11 so this was problem a more then once occurance. I do know that occasionally especially in a hit and run that if you call 911 and even give a partial vehicle description and partial license plate tehy will do what they can to track down the vehicle. it is really unfortunate to hear about people like that that have such a big drinkign problem. And i always just walk to alki (its a long walk but would rather be safe than sorry)but am selfishly more worried about myself being hit by a drunk driver leaving beacuse they are worried about being towed/ticketed then anything else. I am sorry that the guy hit your car like that.

JenVMemberwell lets do it then. this saturday is out for me (tickets to Anthony Bourdain!!) but that is the only “out” day for me. I promise to try to play nice with everyone too…

JiggersMemberIts really not a restaurant, but if you like being an unsocialite,Verite coffee I notice always has people in there with their faced buried in their laptop or reading a book.

dazzelspaceMemberAnd yeah – I saw the guy – clearly drunk – get into his truck, smash into my car – and speed off burning rubber… so YES he was loaded. Then they told me he was there every day at 11AM!
June 3, 2008 at 10:57 pm #624848In reply to: Angry Drunks on Wheels
dazzelspaceMemberYou don’t understand the issue at the Admiral – though I thank you for being polite. They KNEW they were wrong. In this situation, I am not going to get into a big thing with this drunk and his friends and his bar. How does that benefit me… ? This guy could have come back with a weapon and threatened me… how do I know? He’s drunk!
The issue along Alki is simple – the ‘hood doesn’t want nor like the nightlife – and parking down there is atrocious… so I doubt you will ever see this embraced by the City or the neighbors.
One thing you can do is park on side streets and walk – but that could be a ways. Maybe take the bus down there or a Taxi… thats what I would do (and have done) to go down to Alki in the summertime.

dazzelspaceMemberAlso, briefly, for any normal person who reads this thread – start at the top – read the first 4 or 5 responses to my post – I got jumped all over for no reason and I reacted in a very predictable manner – defending myself and returning the insults that were directed at me. So, list manager who threatens me…. this is comical. This is called a ‘rant’ thing… since when are rants supposed to be judged like I was? You and your pals can now flame away… but I’m not going to read any of it…

RSMemberWe just moved here last summer and don’t really know anyone either. So I’m definitely up for a BPP night if one happens!! I’m a liberal democrat too, JenV, but I can totally play nice with everyone.
June 3, 2008 at 10:47 pm #624846In reply to: Angry Drunks on Wheels
beachdrivegirlParticipantI think that you are assuming a lotDazzlespace. But your post was pretty demanding and I think it is only fair that we ask did you physically follow this patron out of the bar and watch him/her get into his/her car and if so why the he** did you not call 911 right then and there if you were so concerned with it? And yes i agree the LCB should look into all of these situations.
And on teh note of drunk driving does anyone else fidn it odd that down along Alki Beach where the Swell, Bamboo, and cactus all are there is no overnight parking! My guy and I noticed that while walking along there this past weekend seems like with all the bars there the least the city could do is show some lenience and let patrons of those bars leave their cars there overnight if needed without being ticketed/impounded.

dazzelspaceMemberI could care less if I am “removed” or “disallowed” from posting here. I apologize for offending anyone. However, people here seem pretty self-absorbed and quite confrontational and rude without any cause! Can’t people disagree in a civil fashion? Anyway, for y’alls information, the authorities – whom I have spoken with a number of times regarding this incident – are currently investigating this and were very interested in what went on there. It is not worth any of my time to defend myself to this lot – you have your own thing here and I am not welcome. No problem. This situation with this fellow who had been sitting in the Admiral… according to their on-duty staff that day – they told me he was there drinking over 6 glasses of wine daily – that is how I know this – not from being there daily myself… it will be resolved, as they have been or will be visited by the Liquor Control Board. I know a lot of people who have worked in pubs and clubs and bars… and they were all nodding in total understanding of this issue. It is always tough for a business to deal with this – but they HAVE TO. Most bar staff tell me they simply won’t tolerate regulars who drive. They cut them off after a max of 2 drinks. It is a different matter if they know the bar patron is NOT driving. I think that is the responsible thing here that staff at the Admiral were choosing to ignore in this case. I am hopeful they will fix this problem with this guy and all. The Admiral has always been a great neighborhood place, one bad apple shouldn’t ruin that.
