Sorry to come so late to this thread. A walking friend (Angie) told me that this existed so I thought I’d check in. I am the daughter of the grocery store owner on 49th and Charleston. Our actual address was 4801 SW Charleston. We started the lease in about 1965 from Zorich Brothers. It was a booming popular grocery store until 2 Safeways opened in 70’s – They were put in above and below us on Admiral and California. They just killed our family business. In the late 70’s Dad tried to renegotiate the lease with the Zorich’s to no avail so he walked away. He began selling real estate and did well. We started off as a Thriftway and end as the Grocery Cart. I think we were also an IGA at some time. Dad really appreciated his customers especially when time got tighter. To help make ends meet, he had me learn how to cut meat and I got my license at 18, my 2 brothers were also very involved in the store – Monte was always at the check stand and Ron did the produce. Thank you for you recognition of the store.
