The Dumar/Orchard closure continues today; that’s it for scheduled road work requiring detours. Looking ahead to the weekend again, the northbound I-5 exit to West Seattle Bridge will be closed Friday night-Monday morning; the Alki Beach 5K route on Alki Avenue will be closed Sunday morning.

(Live view of the 1st Ave. S. Bridge, looking south at northbound lanes)
That’s a state-run camera again this morning, as we wait for the city traffic cameras to stabilize. Meanwhile, the pre-scheduled traffic alerts:
*Dumar/Orchard between Delridge and (almost) 16th still closed
Looking ahead:
*Northbound I-5 exit to West Seattle Bridge closed Friday night-Monday morning
*Alki Beach 5K route closed Sunday morning
TUESDAY AFTERNOON P.S. The city cams are back – see them on the WSB Traffic page.
This will likely explain more no-parking signs you’ll see today and later this week – another round of Seattle Public Schools portable-classroom moves in West Seattle. The newest list includes two portable-moving operations headed OUT of this area:
Overnight tonight, by 6 am Tuesday – From Boren (5950 Delridge) to Schmitz Park Elementary (50th/Spokane)
Overnight Tuesday night, by 6 am Wednesday – From Boren to View Ridge Elementary
Overnight Thursday night, by 6 am Friday – From Genesee Hill (50th/Genesee) to Jane Addams

No major problems reported on local outbound routes so far this morning – except that the city’s traffic cameras don’t appear to be updating (they all appear to have stopped at about 5:37 am); checking on that (and looking at a state-operated camera in the meantime). Meantime, remember the West Seattle road closure that is scheduled to last all week – Orchard/Dumar between Delridge and (almost) 16th; here’s our reminder, with map, from last night.

In case you’re just catching up after vacation, or maybe you just forgot – the Dumar/Orchard road closure between SW Austin (just west of 16th) and Delridge Way starts at 7 am tomorrow morning and is scheduled to continue until Friday. The recommended detour route is in the city-provided map above. This stretch of road is getting utility upgrades as well as roadway restoration, as something of a side note to the yearlong Delridge Way Repaving Project.

6:50 AM: Happy Friday! One more time, here’s a look ahead to closures/changes:
*Tonight/tomorrow morning, Highway 99 closures – details here
*Next Monday-Friday, Orchard/Dumar closes between Highland Park/Puget Ridge and Delridge – details here
*Prep work is under way there, so Metro Route 120 changes are already in effect – explained here
7:35 AM: Don’t know the severity (or lack of it), but Engine 36 is on a call described as “fuel spill” at 11th and Spokane, which would be just east of the low bridge. Also, Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth ferry runs are about 10-15 minutes delayed because of the fog, per WSF; it started very early this morning – we were hearing the ferry foghorns starting around 1 am. On the other side of the West Seattle waterfront, just got this photo from Lise:

(The Spirit of Kingston is on the Vashon run today.)
8:42 AM: Fog effects continue on the waterways: The West Seattle Water Taxi is on time at last report, but one Vashon run has been canceled by both the fog and a “minor mechanical (problem)”; the three ferries on the Fauntleroy route are all running up to half an hour late now.

As we keep an eye on what’s happening today – with your help – we’re also looking ahead, so here are two reminders:
*Friday night/Saturday morning, Highway 99 closures – newest details here
*Next Monday-Friday, a key road closure between Highland Park/Puget Ridge and Delridge – details here
*For that road closure, Metro Route 120 effects start TODAY – explained here
8:21 AM: The stalled semi mentioned in comments has been cleared from the westbound lanes of the low bridge, per SDOT. A possible truck problem is now mentioned in e-mail from Nicholas: “A semi missed the turn on Andover to Nucor, and now appears to be stuck on the hill heading back up to Avalon.”
9:28 AM: If you take the 1st Avenue South Bridge on 99 northbound, note that there’s a big SFD callout on East Marginal Way north of the bridge (map) right now, listed as hazmat/spill/leak – no details yet but the callout is likely to affect 99 traffic in that area between bridges, so be forewarned.
10:11 AM: As discussed in comments – here’s what SFD has tweeted about the East Marginal incident: “… a report of 1 patient who felt dizzy & nauseous after opening envelope. … Medic evaluating 1 patient. Envelope islolated. Workers in building being sheltered in place. HazMat team will evaluate envelope.”

(Live view from the west-facing WS Bridge camera; other cameras are on the WSB Traffic page)
7:46 AM: Nothing out of the ordinary to report so far, as we head toward the peak of the morning commute.
11:03 AM: Thanks to Jonathan and Jan for tips that the Admiral Way exit from the westbound bridge was closed – supposed to have reopened by now, but we’re making note in case you’re wondering what it was about: SPD says they were assisting SDOT with some kind of brief cleanup that required closure of the exit.

(WSB photo: Work being done on one of the Boren-stored portables today)
An early-morning traffic alert for the next two days, from Tom Redman at Seattle Public Schools: Three portables are about to leave the Boren campus at 5950 Delridge Way SW. Before 6 am tomorrow, one single portable will be taken from Boren, bound for Bagley Elementary in North Seattle. Before 6 am Thursday, two double portables will be taken from Boren to Schmitz Park Elementary in north West Seattle. SDOT will determine the exact routes before the moves.

One note so far this morning: If your commute is on the water, the West Seattle Water Taxi is scheduled to be back, per King County, though Melissa Ann is scheduled to make the run, with Spirit of Kingston out for now.

No trouble on the bridges but multiple WSB’ers have sent word of truck trouble at Delridge/Andover – photo momentarily here:

A TV helicopter has come over to check it out, per Twitter and one text so far. Note that the truck was turning from southbound Delridge to westbound Andover; still, a busy spot.
7:29 AM: Sue passed by a few minutes ago and reported the truck is still blocking the corner but, even going southbound, a lane is getting through.
8:01 AM: Just checked out the scene a few minutes ago. If you usually commute through Delridge/Andover in any direction, all’s well now – the truck has been entirely pulled over onto westbound Andover and there’s no backup, in any direction.
9:02 AM: Police investigation downtown is likely to affect traffic coming off the Viaduct at Seneca. Multiple reports say it’s a shooting on board a bus. More shortly.
9:33 AM: We are covering this separately.
3:05 PM NOTE: If you’re checking back here for PM commute info – Metro says its service is mostly back to normal (if any anomalies, they’ll be noted on the “Eye on Your Metro Commute” site)
4:27 PM UPDATE: Making note of this on all of our coverage pages related to this – just tweeted by SPD: “Streets reopened downtown. 2nd Ave still closed between Spring and University but should be opening shortly.”
5:22 PM NOTE: In case you’ve missed our other mentions – the West Seattle Water Taxi is canceled for the rest of the day/night. Stay tuned for updates about tomorrow.
Looking at the week ahead, there’s one major road closure likely to affect people going to/from West Seattle – next Friday night/Saturday morning (August 16th-17th), Highway 99 will be closed both ways between the West Seattle Bridge and the stadium area for lane-shifting. The northbound closure is scheduled for 10 pm Friday to 8 am Saturday; the southbound closure, from 10 pm Friday to noon Saturday. (We’ll include reminders in our weekday traffic/transit-tracking reports as the week goes on.)

Thanks to WSB’er “Smokeycretin9” for photos of, and an update on, the road work that’s been under way since Thursday on SW Roxbury in the 23rd-24th vicinity (mentioned again today in our daily traffic/transit tracker). He says it appears this work, described by SDOT only as replacement of a concrete panel in the road, will take care of the notorious “bump” in the area. But in the meantime, the work’s scheduled to continue until 5 or so, and he says “Roxbury is down to one lane for both directions with flaggers directing traffic. Traffic is backing up into White Center going West and past Safeway going East.” So if you’re heading that way, you might consider an alternate route.

(Live view from the west-facing WS Bridge camera; other cameras are on the WSB Traffic page)
Happy Friday! The SDOT Construction Lookahead says the work on Roxbury between 23rd and 24th – replacing a concrete panel – is expected to continue all day today, 9 am-5 pm. Looking ahead to the weekend – here’s the citywide lineup of events that might affect traffic.

So far, nothing out of the ordinary on West Seattle’s outbound routes. As always, we’ll add updates here if that changes.
EARLY WARNING: If you missed the announcement last night, SDOT has sent early warning that a key connector between Highland Park/Puget Ridge and Delridge will be closed for five weekdays starting August 19th – details here.
The ongoing Delridge Way Repaving Project will lead to a five-day road closure later this month, according to the SDOT alert sent out tonight:
The Seattle Department of Transportation will close a segment of SW Orchard and Dumar Way SW, which runs between Delridge Way SW and SW Austin Street, from 7:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, until 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, to conduct roadway restoration work and make utility upgrades. Local access will be maintained.
Traffic intending to travel west on Dumar Way SW from 16th Avenue SW will be directed to use the following detour (please see attached map):
· South on 16th Avenue SW
· West on SW Henderson
· North on Delridge Way SWTraffic intending to travel east on SW Orchard to Dumar Way SW from Delridge Way SW will be directed to use the following detour:
· South on Delridge Way SW
· East on SW Henderson Street
· North on 16th Avenue SWLane restrictions currently in effect on Delridge Way SW as part of SDOT’s Delridge Way SW Paving Project (between SW Holden and SW Orchard streets) will remain in place until early October. Northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained.

A two-car crash this past hour did serious damage to the signal equipment at 8th and Roxbury – as shown in our photo – and the light is not working as a result. That means it’ll be slow going in that intersection for a while; a police officer is on site to direct traffic. No one was hurt in the crash.

(Live view from the west-facing WS Bridge camera; other cameras are on the WSB Traffic page)
6:11 AM: The morning commute is off to a quiet start. No road work or closure advisories for today, except for an alert that the Mariners play a day game, which means that the southbound 99 ramp to Atlantic will be closed for about an hour in the late afternoon to try to help traffic keep flowing.
Looking way ahead – the weekend of August 16-19, there will be two closures of note for our area, including an all-weekend closure of the northbound I-5 ramp to the West Seattle Bridge – scroll to the SODO section of the weekly Construction Lookahead.
7:46 AM UPDATE: There’s a crash on the eastbound bridge – thanks to Jay for the tip in comments. Also, there is a crash at East Marginal and Spokane – east of the low bridge – described on the scanner as “bicycle vs. bicycle.” Fire has been called out for possible injury/ies on that one but not for the bridge crash, which has closed the middle lane, per SDOT via Twitter.
7:55 AM UPDATE: Per scanner, the two bicycles collided head-on. One rider is “up and walking around” with minor injuries, while the other one, a 30-year-old man, will be taken to the hospital.
8:01 AM UPDATE: Also per scanner, southbound East Marginal is closed at Spokane because of the aforementioned collision.
8:17 AM UPDATE: That scene is open to traffic, and we have just heard that the high-bridge car-crash scene is clearing too. No injuries reported in that one.
8:54 AM UPDATE: If you’re using Highland Park Way as an alternative – you might run into trouble there too; SFD has responded to an aid call for an incident at HP Way and W. Marginal Way SW describing as a bicyclist falling. No medic unit dispatched, though, so the injuries sound non-major, so far.
5:53 PM: Bridge update:
@westseattleblog stalled vehicle just after curve heading east on WSB. Kind of in a blind spot so use caution.

Nothing unusual on the routes out of West Seattle so far today. Two reminders: SDOT is scheduled to be working all day, as late as 7 pm, on westbound Roxbury, closing one lane between 15th/16th SW; tonight, the Battery Street Tunnel has an overnight closure – 10 pm to 5 am on the southbound side, midnight to 5 am (or starting two hours after the M’s game if that runs later than 10) on the northbound side.

(Live view from the west-facing WS Bridge camera; other cameras are on the WSB Traffic page)
Good morning! Here’s what’s ahead for this week:
TUESDAY & THURSDAY: Road work 7 am-7 pm each of those two days on the westbound side of SW Roxbury. On Tuesday, one westbound lane will be closed between 15th and 16th SW; on Thursday, one westbound lane will be closed between 23rd and 24th SW.
OVERNIGHT TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY: 10 pm-5 am Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, the southbound Battery St. Tunnel will be closed on Highway 99. There will also be a northbound closure but it won’t start until about midnight, or “two hours after the Mariners’ game ends.”

3:46 PM: Police have closed the entrance to the eastbound bridge at Fauntleroy; crews are responding to an aid call further east of that point. We don’t know how long it’ll last, so for now, if you’re about to head east, use the Delridge entrance, which appears to be open (not sure about Admiral but we’re checking). Thank you to the person who texted first word of the shutdown! 206-293-6302 any time, day or night (but only when you can text or call safely and legally).
4:03 PM: Thanks to LT for confirming the Admiral entrance remains open as well as Delridge – so use either of those until Fauntleroy reopens (the image above is SDOT’s “live” camera).
4:09 PM: It’s open again.

Good morning! Two reminders and a look ahead – First, a road-work reminder; city crews will continue repaving the 1200 block of Alki Avenue SW. Second reminder – the I-90 bridge closes for the Seafair airshow 1:15 pm-2:40 pm today, tomorrow, and Sunday. Third, a look ahead to next week: Tuesday night into Wednesday morning (August 6-7), the Highway 99 Battery Street Tunnel will be closed overnight for work – southbound 10 pm-5 am, northbound approximately midnight-5 am (the actual start time will be 2 hours after the Mariners game ends).
1:47 PM UPDATE: Thanks to Tim for the tip – a spun-out van is on the outside edge of the crest of the eastbound high bridge – here’s an image grabbed from the camera a few minutes ago:

Remember that since it hasn’t rained for a while, the roads will be slick with oil and other material that’s soaked in since last time. (And even as we update this story, we hear someone losing traction as they round the corner near HQ …)
6:07 PM: Thanks to multiple tipsters for mentioning a crash that has affected the westbound bridge – though we can’t tell from available traffic cameras whether it still is; one car apparently wound up off the highway near Walking on Logs. Kevin says City Light was there when he went by. No injuries, judging by the absence of an SFD listing on the 911 log.

(Live view from the west-facing WS Bridge camera; other cameras are on the WSB Traffic page)
Welcome to August, and another murky morning, with the forecast including a chance of showers. Today’s road-work alert: City crews are scheduled to start a two-day repaving project in the 1200 block of Alki Avenue SW.
