West Seattle, Washington
03 Wednesday
This morning we published a photo of racquet-sports and auto items found near 35th and Fauntleroy. Now we’ve received a possibly-dumped-items report from Victor, a few blocks north:
Someone seemed to have dumped a collection of CDs on our lawn today? I have to wonder if it’s related to the items found near 35th and Fauntleroy. I’m hoping I can reunite the CDs with their owner.
I’ve attached a picture as they were found, but I went ahead and brought them inside for now …
With these too, you can email us – westseattleblog@gmail.com – if yours, and we’ll connect you.
Recognize any of this?

They were found on a sidewalk near 35th and Fauntleroy and didn’t appear to be something simply lost or purposely placed. If yours, let us know and we’ll connect you with the finder.
The photo and report are from CC:
This box (was seen on a corner, and) looks like it may be important camera equipment.
The finder didn’t mention its current status but if you’re looking for it, let us know and we’ll do what we can to connect you.
ORIGINAL SUNDAY NIGHT REPORT: Just received from Andrea:
Today my son picked up a journal that has been sitting on the side of the road at Admiral and 42nd for a couple of days. A quick scan reveals no name or phone number in the journal (though we didn’t search closely). I’d like to find the owner as this seems like it’s important to someone.
Recognize it? Let us know and we’ll connect you.
MONDAY UPDATE: Shortly after publishing this, we heard from the journal’s owner, who is now reunited with her journal thanks to Andrea and son!
If you have a view across Elliott Bay toward the Space Needle, you might have seen that drone show tonight; Kevin Freitas recorded part of it from one of West Seattle’s highest hills. Princess Cruises presented it in honor of its new ship Star Princess, which is making its way up the West Coast to Seattle, where it’ll start its first Alaska cruise season on Sunday.
Sent by Jeff:
I found a Mercedes-Benz wheel lock kit on March 25 in Morgan Junction. The wheel lug nut key is inside which will be
necessary for the owner to remove their wheels. Perhaps it was left on the sidewalk by mistake, but it looked as though it had been thrown in the bushes. The owner can contact me for pickup in Morgan Junction.
Yours? Email us and we’ll connect you.
Thanks to Stewart L. for the photos of a drone show over the downtown waterfront tonight, as seen from Harbor Avenue. With Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle, the show commemorated the 10th anniversary of the finale of the two-season Disney-produced animated series “Gravity Falls,” and the launch of a new “visual history” of the series, a book titled “The Art of Gravity Falls.”
(It was meant to be seen from the Overlook Walk on the waterfront, so the images visible from here were reversed.)
Texter says it’s been at 37th SW and SW Andover, door ajar, trashed interior, all day. They’re calling police in case no one’s already notified them.
The first report was sent by Jason, who spotted it at the 35th/Avalon southbound bus stop and thought it was a potential candidate for the possibly-stolen-and-dumped file:
If you recognize it, that’s where to find it. Meantime, we also noted a “lost backpack” report on our Lost/Found (Non-Pets) board in the WSB Community Forums – that one is described as “neon pink,” likely left somewhere in The Junction, so if you found that one, Christi‘s son is looking for it.
Remember Friday’s reader report about a Coca-Cola truck getting stuck on the ramp from the Admiral CVS to the alley on its west? Apparently this U-Haul truck’s drivers missed it. This time multiple readers sent us tips and pics of the stuck truck.
That one’s from yesterday’s tipster, who reports that this one managed to get free after 40+ minutes.
Barbara sent the photos of a bin of what looks like personal photos and documents, dumped or misplaced near Lowman Beach:
If you think it’s yours, contact us and we’ll connect you.
This one, you might have expected …
This one, you might not …
(Thanks to Al for the sign photo, Jerry Simmons for the WS Corporate Center flag)

I found these lost/stolen items dumped in my yard (around 35th & Fauntleroy) this morning. PAC soccer backpack filled w/ equipment.
If any or all of this is yours, contact us and we’ll connect you.
First, from Julie:
Embossed leather bag, possibly a motorcycle pannier, found in the traffic circle at 39th Ave SW & SW Ida St. It’s empty and the leather flap is damaged, but please contact me through the Blog if you’d like to retrieve it.
Second, from Mike
2HP Craftsman compressor found in the street. 2400 block of 53rd Ave SW
If either is yours, email us and we’ll connect you,
From the WSB inbox, two reader reports of items more likely to be stolen/abandoned than simply lost:
Above is a bicycle Mike found along Beach Drive, in or near the 4800 block, where he is holding it for safekeeping. Below are items Celeste saw along an Upper Alki stairway:
If you think any of the above items is yours, please contact us and we’ll connect you to the finders.
Thanks to Stewart L. for the photo! Hours after the Mariners signed Josh Naylor to a five-year dea; – after his three months with the team this season – the T-Mobile Park roof is displaying his initials in celebration, as seen looking across the bay from West Seattle shores. Naylor, a 28-year-old first baseman who hit .295 last year, will get more than $92 million from the deal, according to MLB.com.
Just received from a texter in Admiral:
My BF and I found a bunch of groceries that had been dumped by the corner dumpsters by our apartment this morning. These were not garbage groceries, they looked like maybe they had been stolen from someone’s porch or their car or something.
4 brown paper bags had produce, and two cardboard boxes had nonperishables. In this time with so many having anxiety around food I thought maybe it’s worth saying something. We grabbed the boxes of non perishables with the intention of taking it to a food bank, but if you think it’s worth posting, or if you heard from anyone about a grocery theft, I’d be happy to connect with them.
Some of the produce was completely ruined, but some (looked like apples) were in plastic produce bags and would maybe be salvageable if someone was desperate? The bags and boxes were not marked (no Amazon smile or Safeway or anything just plain brown) so I’m not sure where they came from. I just felt horrible to see it all sitting there clearly dumped when so many are worried about their next meal right now.
If you have an idea how these might have ended up by the dumpsters, please comment, or contact us and we’ll connect you.

I saw this PS4 and some other items on a wall next to the alley on the north side of Genesee just east of 44th. Thought it might be stolen and abandoned.
Thanks to Erin for the video! We’ve been telling you for a few days about the parking restrictions today along part of Harbor/Alki Avenues, attributed to a production company with a lot of car commercials among its credits. The neighbor who originally tipped us said a Toyota logo was seen during some advance work, and indeed, that’s what it seems to be – we screengrabbed Erin’s video, tried an online image search, and it came back as the Toyota b74X electric SUV. The parking restrictions also are supposed to be in effect Monday (October 6), but not tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip! The 1301 Second Avenue building downtown has arranged its office lights into the shape of a trident tonight, wishing the Mariners the best of luck on the eve of their first American League Division Series game against Detroit, 5:38 pm tomorrow.
P.S. Watching the game with sound up at your venue? Let us know so we can include in our daily event list!
Three weeks ago, a U.S. Postal Service spokesperson told us the long-gone West Seattle Junction Post Office drive-up/ride-up/walk-up mailbox was finally close to being replaced. And now, it has been; thanks to Lauren for the tip and photo (thanks also to Gregg, who sent word of it too). The Junction mailbox’s predecessor was stolen more than a year and a half ago. Crime also took out the Westwood Village Post Office outdoor mailbox, damaged in what was described as a break-in earlier this month (we haven’t been to WWV today but will go by this evening to see if that box reappeared too).
2:42 PM: Thanks for the tips. Police have received calls this past hour about two masked men in The Junction, photographing people and businesses. Officers checked them out in the vicinity of the Post Office and Eagles aerie; they told dispatch the men weren’t doing anything illegal (permission is not required to photograph anyone or anything visible from a public space like a sidewalk or street). What some who’ve seen them report to be unsettling is their outfits (here’s one photo texted to us), reminiscent of what plainclothes ICE agents have been photographed wearing, but one report we’ve received say the men identified themselves as “independent media.” They were also described as “belligerent.”
2:55 PM: Someone just called this into 911 again, and officers told dispatch they’d made contact earlier and “there’s nothing we can do.”
3:31 PM: As noted in comments, this is apparently a practice called 1st Amendment Auditing, carried out by provocateurs. It would explain why we thought we heard officers tell dispatch the men were “auditors.”
4:40 PM: We’ve received a couple photos of both.
A reader texted us over the weekend to say, “Looks like Nucor is getting a dark green paint job. Looks great!” No photo, so we went over to have a look late today. Our photo shows the south side of the steel-recycling mill, along SW Andover, visible from West Seattle Health Club. We asked a spokesperson for Nucor (which is a WSB sponsor) about the repainting – here’s what we heard back:
We are in the midst of painting the buildings at our local mill this summer and anticipate doing an additional round of painting next year, including building roofs. This investment is part of our overall work to maintain our mill responsibly for our teammates and our neighbors. We chose green to help reflect the character of our neighborhood. The last time the mill was painted was about a decade ago and it was time for a fresh coat. We look forward to making additional investments at the mill, like the removal of the old, decommissioned smokestacks and the current painting project.
We reported on the smokestack removal back in May.
P.S. The repainting’s not done yet, so you can still see the previous beige-ish color on part of the building.
