Forecast suggests tomorrow might have the three-day weekend’s best weather – mostly sunny, low 70s. Today’s high was 70, which is five degrees cooler tha what’s normal for this date.
5:27 PM: SPD and SFD are arriving in the Roxhill Park area after a report that someone was stabbed. Updates to come.
5:32 PM: Officers told dispatch they have no suspect description so far. The victim is being taken to the hospital by SFD medic unit.
5:47 PM: The victim is reported to be a teenager. The scene, police told dispatch is toward the southwest side of the park, 29th/Cambridge.
5:59 PM: Police have cleared the scene. We’re checking with SFD on the victim’s condition, and asking SPD if they have any additional info.
7:23 PM: Updates – SFD spokesperson Kaila Lafferty says the victim, a man now believed to be 20 years old, was in critical condition when transported. SFD spokesperson Det. Brian Pritchard provided this summary:
Officers arrived and found a 20-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the thigh and torso, near the soccer field. Officers provided aid until Seattle Fire Department arrived and transported him to Harborview Medical Center; his condition is unknown at this time. The victim stated that he did not know who stabbed him and gave no description of the suspect. Homicide and Assault Unit detectives are leading the investigating and will be working to determine what led to the stabbing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip line at (206) 233-5000.
4:32 PM: SFD and SPD are at California and Genesee, where a collision is reported to have involved a minivan driver and bicycle rider. The intersection is at least partially blocked, reportedly on the west side. More information when we get it.
4:48 PM: We’ll be checking with SFD on injuries. They canceled a dispatch for a medic unit – which would have been needed for serious injuries – and, according to a texter (who sent the photo above), transported at least one person by ambulance instead.
4:55 PM: SFD has closed the call.
6:14 PM: According to SFD spokesperson Kaila Lafferty, this involved a scooter, not a bicycle. Two teenagers were on the scooter and both were taken to hospitals by private ambulance: “Approximately 13-year-old female in stable condition” and “Approximately 14-year-old male in stable condition.”

The 2026 West Seattle Art Tour Preview continues at Viscon Cellars, 5910 California Ave SW, Suite B, during tasting room hours on Thursday and Friday evenings – 5 pm to 9 pm, and Saturday afternoons, 1 pm to 6 pm, through September 26, 2026.
Many of the more than 50 participating artists will be at Viscon Cellars Thursday (September 10th) during the West Seattle Art Walk, 5:00-9:00 pm, to chat about their work and answer questions you may have. While you’re there, enjoy a glass of Viscon Cellars’ delicious wine and mingle with other art lovers.

The West Seattle Art Tour is a free, self-guided tour that showcases a unique array of art created by exceptional West Seattle artists in the spaces where artists create, live, teach, and work. This year sites will be open for two days, allowing more time for visitors to see all of the locations. This year’s tour Information includes a printable map, an interactive online map and artist profiles to help guests plot their own adventure across the West Seattle Peninsula. Maps and more are available on the Tour’s website, .
The West Seattle Art Tour is organized by local artists and art lovers with support from The West Seattle Blog, Viscon Cellars, Alki Arts, BECU, Susi Musi & Co., Capers Home, West Seattle Garden Tour, C&P Coffee, and Cat Brooks Design.
Official tour hours will be 10 am-5 pm on Saturday and Sunday, September 19-20.

We haven’t found a digital version of the notice yet (the QR code on the sign goes to the main West Seattle Link Extension site, and it doesn’t appear to be posted there). The work, involving soil sampling, originally was set for last month, then postponed when workers discovered “unmarked utilities and communications cables.”
If you’re a Seattle Public Library user, here’s a reminder that they’re expecting a tech disruption starting Sunday night (September 6) as SPL launches a major overhaul, announced last month. Library branches will remain open (except for the West Seattle/Admiral branch, where unrelated HVAC work continues), but here’s what SPL says will be affected: “Access to patron accounts, the ability to place holds on physical materials, some online services, self-checkout stations, and pick-up lockers.” The announcement also noted, “Patrons will also need to bring their physical or digital library card when checking out materials during this time.” The SPL website says that’s expected to last a week – after the system’s Labor Day closure – more details here. Once they start the work, which is expected to be complete in early October, they’ll provide status updates here.

That’s where West Seattle High School opened their varsity-football season by hosting Eastside Catholic.
The Crusaders were a tough foe, though, and the Wildcats came away with a loss, 47-12.
Next week they’ll be on the road, playing Rainier Beach at noon Saturday, September 12, at Southeast Athletic Complex.
With both local high-school varsity football teams playing on the peninsula Friday night, we were able to drop in on both games.

We spotted a high-profile spectator on the sidelines – below is first-year Seattle Public Schools superintendent Ben Shuldiner with longtime Chief Sealth athletic director Ernest Policarpio:
Going into halftime, the Seahawks were down 17-0.
Fans and Cheerhawks remained hopeful.
But CSIHS didn’t score in the second half either, and the final score was Prep 30, Chief Sealth 0. Next game is Thursday (September 10), 6 pm, hosting Roosevelt at Nino Cantu Southwest Athletic Complex (2801 SW Thistle).
